So I'm hearing on Blabbermouth that Ozzy is searching for a replacement guitarist, and is considering John 5 from Rob Zombie: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=123387

Here's Zakk Wylde commenting on the situation: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=123403

Opinions?

He won't kick him out. It's just differing schedules with the two bands.

We'll see, I don't know. I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?

Sounds like he might kick him out, but its a bit tricky cause of the wording.

Also Ozzy sounds like COMPLETE SHIT in that video of them playing Paranoid. His voice is shot, he should just give up.

If this does indeed happen, way for Ozzy to descent even further into musical (and total) oblivion and retardation.

I know, I hope Zakk will be able to stay. Ozzy Osbourne needs a good guitarist and Zakk Wylde is the man. If Zakk leaves then Ozzy might be done, hopefully not. But then again even if Zakk stays then Ozzy Osbourne will soon have to retire. I don't want that day to come but it's getting closer and closer with each second. Hopefully his next record will be good. I mean he's not attending Ozzfest so I could imagine it would be worth a listen or two.

Is Ozzy getting kicked out of Ozzy Osbourne? God I hope so. The band would be better off without him.

While it's doubtful Ozzy will ever release another good album, at least he's dumping Zakk Wylde. Getting rid of that wanker can only put him on the road to a decent album.

I'm not a Wylde fan (he's decent, I guess, but nothing to go crazy over), so I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. I really doubt Ozzy will put out anything great, regardless of his guitarist.

Eh, Ozzy sucks, so does BLS.

I wish both would die sooner.

I do like Zakk. But personally, I think Ozzy should either keep Zakk or contact Steve Vai and see if he is interested in doing anything. Since BLS is frighteningly nu metalish, if Ozzy got somebody else writing the music maybe, just maybe the next album won't be as bad as the previous one. Or maybe Yngwie(I know, flame me all you want), I mean listen to Perpetual Flame. He can still write some awesome 80's style heavy metal. The last thing Ozzy should do is get John 5. He NEEDS to get SOMEBODY who can write a decent Ozzy album.

You know what? Scratch all those previous ideas. BRING BACK JAKE E. LEE!

This isn't true. Motorhead were not influenced by Black Sabbath. Therefore, Motorhead would have still happened, then Venom, then thrash and then extreme metal. We'd be out on doom, though.

Also, I have a funny feeling that Judas Priest and power metal would have come on its own too.

Not really. We would still have doom metal. It wasn't Ozzy who made it... it was Tony Iommi and his hand accident! I'm telling you its Divine Intervention! The gods themselves saw doom metal in the future and said it was good.

Ozzy's sound has become real stale because of Zakk's playing.

I used to love Zakk but it's basically the same thing over and over.

John 5's solo cds are quite enjoyable and he's a good enough player.

I wouldn't mind hearing what they would sound like.

Black Sabbath might have had a better singer too. Though I don't think they would have been as popular.

Retirement would be the best option for Ozzy, but as long as theirs still money left on the table he'll have no incentive to walk away.If he continues it would be smart to bring in a new guitarist because Zakk is spent creatively.

If Ozzy is unhappy with how "his" albums are coming out, maybe he should, I don't know, write some of the music? Especially since the band is named after him. Seriously, he's the weak link in the band. Not that I'm a Zakk Wylde fan or anything, but seriously.

Also, Ozzy had jack shit to do with the development of metal. Just like with his "Solo" band, he wrote none of the music in Sabbath.

Without Ozzy we would still have metal in much the same way. Without Iommi/Geezer? Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Buffalo (AU), Priest, Budgie...as well as a fair few other bands, they all still would of existed. Of course metal would of been different, but we don't owe metal completely to Sabbath.

I'm kind of glad Ozzy is getting a new guitarist. Zakk is a good player, but as people have said, he is way out of ideas - he's still just as passionate a player, but I haven't heard any real variation in his playing since he went groovy. John5 doing an album with Ozzy would be quite interesting, as he is a fantastic player.

I think we more or less do. Priest was influenced by Sabbath and, I don't know about Buffalo, but the other ones you pointed out straddled the line between metal and hard rock. Sabbath also helped influence the NWOBHM which in turn, along with punk bands, influenced thrash bands like Metallica and Slayer who influenced early death and black metal bands. Sabbath had a particular heaviness to it that few bands had at the time.

And to stay on topic, I don't think it would hurt to get rid of Zack. I hardly listen to Ozzy, it at all, but it would freshen up his sound. Unlike a lot of people, I like a lot Zakk's work, but with an "artist" like Ozzy, his material is more or less dependent solely on who he works with. Two BLS are unnecessary.

I hope Ozzy kicks out Zakk Wylde. The guy is talented, obviously, but I'm just tired of his stuff and how his fans act like he's "the man" when he's really not THAT special. Black Label Society is awful and really cheesy, and his work in Ozzy was okay but nothing ground-breaking. Ozzy definitely needs a new guitarist if he wants to move on from the sound of the last few albums.

Of course what we have come to know as metal would of changed drastically, Sabbath (and by that I mean the force of Iommi and Geezer) did have a lot of influence, but I think "metal" would of still existed, although in a rather different form. Perhaps a prime element that Sabbath brought was the evilness.

I'd go on, but I don't want to derail this post too much.

Not by a whole lot. Gus G can play a mean solo, but his riffing leaves a lot to be desired.

Ozzy still kicks ass. He wrote most modern trends in metal.

Anyway, I do think Zakk is being pretty much ousted from the band. He's in his own project now and Ozzy doesn't want that to interfere with his band. In a way, it may be a good thing to let him go.

I didn't say he wrote any music, I said he wrote the trends. This also goes back to Black Sabbath. Watch metal interviews. See how many of them list Sabbath as a inspiration.
