Why the hell not.

I'm really digging Deep Unknown by Stratovarius.

I like Suffocation's Come Hell or High Priest. Catchy riffs are always good!

For me, it has to be Temple of Opposites' "Cunnus Diaboli". It just epitomises raw black metal, basically.

Týr - Tróndur Í Gøtu
Azarath - Invocation
Amorphis - Majestic Beast (would be number one)

Those three have been high up on my plays lately. Great stuff.

Pagan Moon from Beherit's Engram.

Though I never just listen to one song. I typically always listen to an album in its entirety.

Napalm Death - On the Brink of Extinctioooooooooooooooooon!
Heaven and Hell - Bible Black (If you don't like this we need to revoke your metalhead licence.)
Candlemass - Dead Angel
Saxon - Hellcat

I can't really count Fleshgod Apocalypse, since their best songs were released last year before the album.

My favorite I've heard this year:

My favorite song of this year would probably have to be Crypt of Thanatophilia by Tribulation. Good stuff.

At this point, Skyforger (the title track) by Amorphis, although this may very well change as I buy the album.

The folk releases of this year are pretty fun, like Koripiklaani's Vodka and Eluveitie's Omnos.

Tough to pick a particular song but the first thing that popped into my head was Pregnant Insect by Cobalt-- it's a damn good song to start with, but that contribution by Jarboe at the climax really kicks it in the ass and drags it up to a whole new level.

Bark Loud from the new Ephel Duath is a contender for me also; this instrumental is infused with such pride and energy, and really caps that album off extraordinarily well. It's tough not to love that song.

As I said in the best albums thread though, I am painfully behind on this year. I suspect that the new Sunn and Khanate releases may contain future favourites, but we'll just have to see about that.

Heaven & Hell's Bible Black comes to mind, although that album was filled with good songs. Amorphis' new one had some great songs as well (Majestic Beast, Sampo, Skyforger)

I was about to suggest this one. It's my favourite song on the album.

A lot from Senmuth's newest, plus five songs from "Death... The Brutal Way" by Asphyx.

Immaculate - Cross of Nero

None of the MechaThrashZilla nonsense from their debut, and some absolutely Coroner/Destruction worthy riffage. If they can keep it up for a full-length, it will absolutely dominate all other new thrash.

For me its a 4 way tie (the songs are just that good) between 4 tracks off of Anaal Nathrakh's new album, In the Constellation of the Black Widow. My nominees are the opener, In the Constellation of the Black Widow, the second track I am the Wrath of Gods and the Desolation of the Earth, track 5 Terror in the Mind of God, and the finisher Blood Eagles Carved on the Backs of Innocents. They are all to good to judge between for a definite winner.

Suicide Choir by Mournful Congregation,

although Beware the Thrash Brigade by Rumpelstiltskin Grinder comes to mind as well, I consider this a 2008 song since it first came out on the 2008 compilation of pure ass kicking, "Philly Thrash Brigade"

Korpiklaani's Vodka is excellent. Just heard it this morning.

They're easily the best band to drink to.

No Survivors by God Dethroned is my favourite, ahead of a slew of Anaal Nathrakh songs.

I second this.

Also, no excuse for listening to Atreyu. We're metal here, not pussies.

Don't try and play some Motörhead at a party where you're the only metalhead and the rest are philosophers/aesthetic students that only listen to weird powerpop and stuff like that. It will most certainly ruin the mood... Talking from first hand experience here.

Anyway, I don't know who Atreyu are but I don't see any reason talking down to people like that... I'd like to think we're better than kids atleast.

The video for "Vodka" is and, more importantly, the lyrics are hilarious! It was my first exposure to Korpiklaani last week.

Definitely, a new fan.

Sigh. Either you're trying to be clever by joking again, or you just fail at dates. *cough* That song is five years old *cough*
