Oh c'mon, "Sign of the Hammer" is perhaps better than both of those albums, and atleast tied with "Hail To England!".
I think it would fall in the taste of Caspian too if he like Battle Hymns.
But it seems he have heard it, since he reviewed it... What's going on!

Sign of the Hammer was the second weakest 80's Manowar album (better than Fighting the World, of course). The whole feel of the album was too rockish and their were only a couple of memorable songs on it.

Hell... I actually think Fighting the World is one of their better ones too, and Kings of Metal is their weakest, albeit still very strong.
The only weaker song on "Sign..." would be "Animals", but since it's the second to come it barely ruin the experience when the rest of the songs kick so much ass. Though, in the end, every album of theirs up to "Triumph of Steel" have had their periods as my personal favorites, and I don't really like to tie them up to positions in a list. :P

ENKC: Yeah! Triumph of Steel is indeed a triumph... Proved they didn't "need" Ross to make great heavy metal.

Hammer of the Gods? When is Manowar going to run out of album names?

There are many combinations of battle-tools, types of metal and superlatives to put to use.

I'm interested yet suspicious. Remember that half of the songs on Gods of War aren't metal (hell, King of Kings only starts after 9 minutes of keyboards!). And for an EP, it does have a lot of songs, doesn't it? (Lots of instrumental filling...?)

But still, I'm looking forward to...

The cover has been released:

I guess the "save money and make it in MS Paint" idea is really catching on.

Hopefully the full-length will have more advanced artwork. This works for an EP, but I want Ken Kelly on that album cover.

There were some pretty good ones on their Hell on Earth covers, as I recall.

I will certainly buy this album. Gods Of War is actually quite good, it's just as many have pointed out is weakened by too much filler. My two favorite albums of Manowar are Into Glory Ride and The Triumph Of Steel, both amazing albums. As for modern era, Louder Than Hell was simply ok, Warriors Of The World, despite a few glaring weaknesses, was I feel their best with Karl Logan as of yet, closely followed by Gods Of War.

By the way, their 2011 release is to be titled, hold on to your collars folks:

"We Ran Out Of Steel Thus This Record Is Now Called:

ODIN"

yeah I know, about as lame as it gets when it comes to in-jokes.

Oh well, time for some GATES OF VALHALLA! :headbang:

It was a spelling error. A Logi is a fire-giant, Loki = God of Mischief. =P Your right, it's just amazing that Joey of all people got this huge of a fuck up.

Considering Joey's a Wagner fan, it makes sense that he would base his lyrics off of Wagner's interpretations of Nordic mythology, although they are in some places inaccurate.

Someone uploaded "Father" to Youtube. Watch it before it gets taken down.

It's an acoustic ballad sort of thing. Very well done.

Wait, so you reviewed Sign of the Hammer without hearing the album? That is impressive! :P

I heard the lead track of this and it's safe to say that I'll be sticking with the early albums. Manowar have pretty much sucked since Ross The Boss left - Triumph of Steel had some decent moments but anything with a cymbal solo will not be forgiven. Louder Than Hell or Louder Then Hell if you're caspian was a straight-ahead boring heavy metal album with few saving graces (though 'The Power' does smoke). Warriors of the World continued the irreverence and it's probably the weakest they've done. Gods of War was actually the best thing they've done since Kings of Metal but it still left a lot to be desired - needless to say my hopes aren't high.

Best look out for the new Virgin Steele instead, folks. :)

I'm actually looking forward to "Mace of Krishna" or "Poseidon's Pen-Knife".

The EP is available to buy now. Get it here if you don't want to be a filthy pirate:

Or run the gauntlet of ebay when copies start showing up.

I'll choose the latter. I hate the concept of paying for MP3's. I'll pay for the real CD when it's out and about.

It won't be, well, at least from them directly. They're only selling copies on their "tour" this summer. (Headlining 7 metal festivals in Europe, what a tour.)

After hearing the songs of the EP, I have come to the conclusion that the statement above also goes for the lyrics themselves. The words 'gods', 'men', 'die' and the like are making their appearances in Manowar's songs with increasing frequency. It's not that in their previous albums there has been a lot of depth in lyrics but they were better. But, the music and the sound of Adam's vocals are great and I'm really looking forward to hearing the 'Asgard Saga'. :np: The Kings of Metal are back!

The different versions of Father are interesting experimentations. It is entertaining to see them try languages they are not familiar with. But I would like to meet the person who translated the song into Turkish. The translation sucks as hell with full of silly errors. :D

Two things. Firstly, why the hell has the EP been removed from the band's archive page? And secondly, I just realised the acronym for the title is TitS. Coincidence? With Manowar, I think not.
