Another Hypocrisy one is...

The song "Buried" [I believe? one of the slower/ballad type songs from Abducted] has a very distinct riff that was used by Municipal Waste in "Headbanger Face Rip" I believe.

I can't really remember, to be honest, but I do remember listening to Abducted and hearing that song and thinking "What the fuck? That sounds exactly like a Municipal Waste song!"

Municipal Waste is kinda like Slayer in ways too, they reuse alot of riffs.

Another Metallica rip off is in For Whom The Bell Tolls where they rip off the ending/outro riff in Faeries Wear Boots from Sabbath.

Mentioned earlier [or somewhere else?] Peace Sells sounds alot like NIB, obviously.

Total Death and Strike of the Beast is obvious as well.

Celtic Frost has alot of riffs that sound VERY similar in Morbid Tales. Sometimes I can't tell some songs from the other it's so bad..

The opening riff in Obituary's "Download" sounds almost exactly like J-rock band Nightmare's (or "Naitomea" for possible weeaboos) "Black Sick Spider".

Sorry to come back to this, but I've got a couple of goodies...

Overkill - Rotten to the Core (main riff)
Testament - Alone in the Dark (main riff after solo intro)

Exodus - Strike of the Beast (chorus riff)
Kreator - Total Death (chorus riff)

Destruction - Reject Emotions (acoustic intro)
Satyricon - Nemesis Divina (fade out riff at 4.10)

I recently noticed this too. I mean, it doesn't take anything away from how good each song is, but they definitely, definitely are reallllly similar in terms of structure.

It's also pretty similar to Sanitarium and Fade to Black, even. You could stretch it and say that Hero of The Day follows a similar sort of structure. Certainly quiet-loud-really loud is used pretty often really, although Day that Never Comes and One are particularly similar, yes.

Kreator - "Hordes of Chaos"
Lamb of God - "In Your Words"
I think those are the ones.

I also noticed the opening riff in Metallica's "My Apocalypse" is very similar to a riff in "Master of Puppets".
By the looks of it, Metallica seems to rip themselves off a lot.

The beginning of Vicious Rumor's "Children" sounds an awful lot like the beginning of Judas Priest "Devil's Child."

My vote goes to the intro riffs from Iron Maiden's "Phantom of the Opera", and Emperor's "Inno A Satana".

The opening riff to broth Brain Drill - Parasites and Fondlecorpse - Hideous both start off with a very similar galloping riff. However you can distinguish them from each other but upon a first listen to either song you may not catch the differences right away.

Fondlecorpse - Hideous (this is the razarback myspace, click the Fondlecorpse song)

Theres another Amon Amarth and Iron Maiden one. Cry of the the Black birds and Prowler both have pretty much the same riff.

Slayer's Raining Blood and Bolt Thrower's Tank (MK 1)? I don't know, they sound similar to me.

Edit: Well, only the intro's what I meant.

I just found about Kreator's Total Death and Destruction's Mad Butcher (the original bares more resemblance). The intro riff of the former sounds a lot like the latter's intro/main riff, except faster.

I was beaten to alot of songs, bu there's also

Vio-Lence - Eternal nightmare (Intro riff)

and..

Testament - Raging Waters

PS: There's a youtube interview in which Mille petrozza admits he riped off the strike of the beast.

Iron Maiden - Wasted Years
Crooked X - Nightmare

As if I heard hadn't heard that riff enough in the Maiden song.

Also

Bang Camaro - Swallow The Razor
Judas Priest - Hell Bent for Leather

Same vocal delivery for the chorus.

Edit: Actually now that I listened to it, I hear stuff like Hell Bent, Hell Bent for Liquor and "Chop my breakfast on a mirror". I'm sure there's more.

Attacker's Desecration and Absu's Stone Of Destiny. The vocal patterns sound really similar to each other in my opinion.

The intros to SYL's "Wrong Side" and LoG's "Set to Fail" sound pretty alike.

Not really, but I hadn't heard anything of that album (LoG's) and what the fuck? It could be YouTube, but the production was fucking terrible. A major label couldn't afford a better producer?

I was listening to Black Sabbath's 'Never Say Die' album recently and realised how similar the title tracks main riff was to Thin Lizzy's 'The Boys are Back in Town', only speeded up somewhat.

When I read this thread title, I immediately thought of the openings to these two awesome songs:

Agalloch - I Am the Wooden Doors
Ulver - I Troldskog Faren Vild

The Ulver influence ventured near cloning territory on that one.

Brodequin - Pressing to Plead
Fleshgrind - Monarch of Misery

Last Days of Humanity - Putrid Mass of Burnt Excretement
Darkthrone - Sacrificing to the God of Doubt

In both pairs it is the intro riff that is similar.

Deathspell Omega's instrumental Malign Paradigm has a riff that's 90% identical to the opening one from Malign's Ashes and Bloodstench; considering the strong ties between NoEvDia bands and the song's title, I'd say it was intended as an overt homage.

You can't compare old Metallica songs with Megadeth, that isn't fair.
I actually noticed recently that early Cannibal Corpse has a lot of riffs from Macabre's Gloom album from 1989 bound through their songs.

I've found these ones recently:

Arch Enemy - Skeleton Dance
Holy Moses - Heaven VS Hell

The riff of Arch Enemy's song after the whispers sounds similar to the one of Holy Moses.

Unleashed - The End
Holy Moses - Verfolgungswahn

The intro sounds quite identical... with a sound pretty tribal due to the drums. Ha... Viking Metal mood! :)

I've heard Alexi Laiho solos that lifted some similar lines from Steve Vai
