I maybe thinking a bit too deep into this but I have noticed that a lot of bands in their songs mention Jesus as he isn't dead.
Example being Cradle Of Filth 'Jesus IS A Cunt', Nunslaughter 'Jesus IS Doomed' but some have mentioned him being dead as a past tense mentioning him as 'was'.

Can anyone elaborate on this? Or even any thoughts?

They're probably referring to him more as the concept he represents in Christianity (salvation, eternal life, etc), rather than the literal historical figure.

Because in Christianity Jesus isn't dead, he is in heaven and looks down on us continually, helping to guide and watch over us, and he will eventually return to Earth as our King. To refer to him in present tense is perfectly acceptable, as Christians also do so all the time, and communicate with him through prayer.

Also, referring to Jesus is basically referring to "The Lord" as well, as Jesus is, for lack of a better term, an incarnation of God, as is The Holy Spirit.

Just some stuff I remember from my days as a Christian.

Yeah, this is probably just something to do with concept. Lots of bands do it. Example, Bloodbath on the latest especially, use Jesus Christ and interpret him as a Christian would the Devil.

Most of those bands are actually roleplaying as though they actually were in 30AD or whenever Jesus was around and they are killing and torturing him then. So, in their self created context, the tense is right.

And you have to remember, saying "Jesus was doomed" just doesn't have the same affect now does it.

To the 'Jesus WAS Doomed', might not sound better but when it comes down to it, would you rather a song name sound bad or to sound like an uneducated hick?

Really? I don't think so.
