So the Cavalera brothers are following up their Morbid Visions / Bestial Devastation re-recording with Schizophrenia. First song is available below. Artwork again by Eliran Kantor.

Max Cavalera states: "The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with 'Schizophrenia', 'Bestial Devastation' and 'Morbid Visions', all three Brazilian underground gems! To me, 'Schizophrenia' is the ultimate death/ thrash experiment! I was inspired to take on the world and this recording shows my commitment is relentless! This one is for all the generations to enjoy! Play at max volume!"

Igor comments: "1987 was a very progressive year for metal, with releases like CELTIC FROST 'Into The Pandemonium', VOIVOD 'Killing Technology' and BATHORY 'Under The Sign Of The Black Mark', so it was no surprise on how we approached 'Schizophrenia' pushing our boundaries from a black/death metal sound to a more thrash metal aesthetics. We still had some ideas from 'Morbid Visions' and some new songs. I'm very proud of the songwriting and even more proud of our re-recordings."

CAVALERA's "Schizophrenia" track listing:

01. Intro - Re-Recorded
02. From The Past Comes The Storms - Re-Recorded
03. To The Wall - Re-Recorded
04. Escape To The Void - Re-Recorded
05. Inquisition Symphony - Re-Recorded
06. Screams Behind The Shadows - Re-Recorded
07. Septic Schizo - Re-Recorded
08. The Abyss - Re-Recorded
09. R.I.P. (Rest In Pain) - Re-Recorded
10. Nightmares Of Delirium - New, never released

Max Cavalera - Vocals, Guitar
Igor "Iggor" Cavalera - Drums, Percussion
Igor Amadeus Cavalera - Bass
Travis Stone - Lead Guitar

Mixing and mastering was handled by Arthur Rizk.

Excellent news! I loved the Bestial Devastation/Morbid Visions re-recordings. The new version of Escape to the Void sounds badass.

I see the point in re-recording Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions, but not with Schizophrenia which is pretty much perfect as is. The sample song isn't bad but it's completely pointless. This stuff belongs in a live environment, I would definitely go see them perform a Schizophrenia set, or a Bestial/Morbid set. (Both, please.)

I’m in a similar boat. Any flaws on Schizophrenia as far as recording goes are decidedly not an issue compared to the potato quality of Morbid and Bestial

Schizophrenia, at least the remastered version, is perfect to my ears.

Not sure why they felt the need to do this, but I like what I hear. Will probably end up buying it.

At least there is a new song but I'd like to see them make a full album of original material inspired by this album instead of another re-recording.

They said they'll do that once they finish re-recording Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D., and Roots.

Eh, not necessary. I enjoyed the previous one because it was good to hear the early songs played in tune, but that's it. Schizo already sounds fine and this rerecording will bring nothing new to the table. If anything, the modern production just highlights how many of the riffs on Schizo, while fast and ferocious, are still kinda simplistic. Definitely a better fit for rawer production.

Would love to hear them play this in its entirely, but this re-recording isn't necessary at all.

This simply confirms my theory that the Andreas Kisser-led Sepultura calling it quits and doing one final tour was brought about by the BD/MV re-recordings. Kisser saw the writing on the wall and knew that the Cavalera bros. wouldn't stop there, and that they would eventually try and do a "we are the real Sepultura" thing (I watched a live video of CC and Max started going on about exactly that). What a shame. The Kisser-led band really brought some excellent recordings in the latter part of their career and for them to now be overshadowed by this, is a crime.

And to be transparent, I really enjoyed the Cavalera re-recordings but I took their word at face value at first, that they wanted to re-record those songs for the reasons they said they wanted to, and since Kisser wasn't in the band at that time, I didn't see any problem with it. But I did have a nagging suspicion that something else was up. While this might not be the smoking gun, if they re-record BTR then that's all the proof you need that they just want to eclipse the current Sepultura incarnation and Kisser, poor guy, is probably wise to throw in the towel.

I wonder if Max will leave Cavalera after re-recording Roots.

This gave me a thought. You know how some TV stations have a "+1" channel that broadcasts an hour behind the main channel? Well, Max and Igor could rename their band "Sepultura +37", and re-record each Sepultura album 37 years after it was released, like they're doing now. So in 2033 they would re-record Roots. Then Max would leave to pursue a new project, "Soulfly +37".

Iam glad Derrick's Sepultura is finally over, that band shouldn't have ever be named Sepultura. I disagree with them being a good band, the only good thing that happened to them in the last years was the introduction of Eloy Casagrande, one of the best modern metal drummers of this time. But when they played live, 3/4 of their repertory was always Max Cavalera's era songs.

The best thing would have been disbanding Sepultura when Roots came around and having two bands with the original members, but by calling it Sepultura they always lived in the shadow of their former greatness, never surpassing or even matching the first six albums of the band. And no disrespect to Andreas Kisser and Paulo Jr but is clear that the heart of the band was the Cavalera brothers, is like thinking about AC/DC without the Young brothers or Van Halen without the Van Halen brothers.

I saw Andreas, Derrick and Paulo's band live two times and it always felt lacking in all the sense of the word. I saw Cavalera Conspiracy twice too and it was always a thrashing mad party, the stage presence that Max and Igor have is undisputed.

Pretty much disagree with you on everything here. Of course they were still going to play Max era songs, given that Andreas was one of the main songwriters during that time, why wouldn't he play songs he wrote?

Seps last few albums have been better than all but the run of classics from Schizophrenia to Arise

Haven't seen Cavalera live, but caught Soulfly a few times and Max was embarrassing, not playing guitar, having the audience do vocals because he was visibly out of breath...meanwhile Seps have been some of the best shows I've been to the last few years

It would be more honest of them to play the Derrick's era songs, but they know that nobody wants to listen to those songs, so they play the classic stuff instead, not a vibe for me. As for the last Derrick's albums being better than Chaos A.D and Roots, that's a wild statement that I don't support at all.

I'll echo what others have said about loving the Bestial Devastation/Morbid Visions re-recordings, but I'm not wholly opposed to hearing a re-recording of Schizophrenia provided they follow the same basic formula and maybe just spice up a few ancillary elements.

I'm assuming this is a joke, because who in Orcus' butthole wants to hear a re-recording of Roots?

But in all seriousness, I see even less of a point in re-recording these albums than I do with Schizophrenia, just write some new material in the old style, and by old I mean pre-1992, let the Chaos A.D. and Roots crap stay buried in that unfortunate time in history that birthed them.

Moving beyond Schizophrenia would make no sense, as Beneath the Remains is a tremendous sounding record from every angle. Have they already talked about wanting to re-record that one?

I think of myself as mostly opposed to re-recordings in general, but I'm sure there exist a handful of successful examples by now. I guess it's fair to judge them on a case-by-case basis.

There is a live video of CC doing BTR live in full for I think Maryland Deathfest or something. So I wouldn't put it past them

This comment makes no sense considering that Igor Cavalera stayed with the Green fronted Sepultura for several albums after Max left. That means that 3/4 of the classic lineup recorded several records before Igor left. That seems legitimate enough to me, regardless of what I think about the quality. I don't know what happened for Igor to depart, but that's another story

Totally agree dude. Escape To The Void sounds absolutely wicked and this rerecording will be welcomed into the collection just like the previous 2. They were never happy with the production on the pre Beneath The Remains albums. But hey I'm personally happy to have and enjoy both versions of the albums

I like Bestial Devastation/Morbid Visions, but I can see a reason to re-record it. Schizophrenia sounded better and holds up ok on its own, but that re-recording is also decent.

Logically it feels like a couple years down the line they'll do Beneath The Remains, but that record is perfect as it is. No need to touch it.

This is slightly better than the previous albums, but i hated those.

Schizophrenia was one of the best sounding and most important albums of it's time.

Still not interested. I can already listen to Schizophrenia right now, I don't need to wait till June 21st. Pointless shit again.

What about the re-recording of Anticop that could be called Antiflop?
