The album cover should be a picture of a guy wearing a hoodie with the "Astral Fortress" cover on it, which featured a guy wearing a hoodie with the "Panzerfaust" cover on it.

Really though, I liked the last one and am looking forward to this one.

Another album whose title is a reference to 80s metal. F.O.A.D., Total Death, etc... Fenriz is quite nostalgic.

Definitely looks promising. I sadly fell off the Darkthrone train a few years back and just got around to listening to Astral Fortress and Eternal Hails... a couple of days ago, and if they are continuing in the same general direction, I'm here for it. :headbang:

I hope they didn't just include the best riff of the album with that teaser, as they did for the two previous records. The style Darkthrone's playing nowadays has potential, but the songwriting really needs some work.

Quoted for truth.

Those albums have some utterly forgettable songs with the occasional cool moments. But not a single essential album...which is okay since Darkthrone has more classic albums than most. It seems however that our fascination with current Darkthrone is Fenriz's own fascination with olde metal and feeling "well, at least he's having fun".

Feels like they just record music every year out of habit. The results are becoming more interminable than a lot of those legacy DM/BM bands that got grilled for doing the same thing on Nuclear Blast/Osmose/Metal Blade etc. a decade ago (sans the "old metal" conceit). Semi-hard pass

These last couple of Darkthrone records have been their best in a long while, so I got hopes that this one will be just as good.

Maybe, I just prefer this kind of heavy metal to the early black metal and find most of the songs are a good listen.

Like King Gizzard, they're fun and all but I wonder how much better it'd be if they took like 3-4 years to write one of these instead of one every year...

There is always room in my catalogue for another Darkthrone album.

Tbf most of those bands seem to put out albums as an excuse to tour. Considering how DT turns down every six-figure tour offer they get, seems fair to say they just genuinely like recording new music.

I really like the song in the trailer and the album's cover, which is miles better than the bizarre ice skating photograph from the previous record.

I love Darkthrone. Some albums are better than others, but there's always something I can latch onto and enjoy. These days, so many bands poop out new albums seemingly out of obligation, but it's always been very clear that these two guys genuinely love what they do. They have every opportunity to cash in, but they never do. I get the sense that if they didn't have a record deal, they'd still do this stuff for their own enjoyment. It's weird to say that you hear joy in the kind of music that Darkthrone makes, but i honestly don't know what else to call it.

Yeah they sure are having fun and that's endearing and all but I just don't think the quality is consistent. That's my personal tastes speaking.

I'm not super excited, I expect it will be more of the same. I really like Arctic Thunder and Old Star, but those are pretty much the only ones I still spin. Arctic Thunder in particular has a really cool style, I remember hearing someone describe it as "Black Sabbath but blacker", and it's so accurate. It's like the 13 album, very doomy, but with a heavy dose of black metal.

Like others, I think they should take more time in between albums. Not because their rapid fire release schedule makes the songs bad, it does not, but less attention seems to be given to the overall atmosphere. Now the dark and bleak ambiance seems a bit contrived instead of organic. Still, Darkthrone is one of my favorite BM bands, so I will get when released.

I liked what was played in that trailer

I always investigate new Darkthrone for the drum sound and production.

First half of the song is great, but holy shit, the second half is unearthly.

I'm really digging the single. The first half feels like a throwback to Ted's tracks on the the Dennis Dread/Mr Necro era albums. And I really love the spacey second half. Fenriz's clean vocals don't feel too over the top and his drumming feels a lot more lively on this track than it has on the last few albums too. Can't wait for the vinyl to arrive so I can hear the whole album. This has got me very stoked.

Just noticed this last night, what a nice surprise! That song was pretty good, maybe this album will be a bit speedier than the last one. Ordered one of the vinyls so it can sit on the shelf and collect dust with the rest of my records lol.

Good stuff! I thought the drumming was a bit sloppy in the beginning, but nothing to really be bothered about. Solid riffing as expected, and the second half really brings it together.

I've generally enjoyed Darkthrone through the various periods of their career; I really loved The Underground Resistance in particular, quite a bit.

I haven't really paid attention to them in the past decade, however, so this is my first time really hearing anything new from them since. This new track seems alright; not planning to get this album immediately, but I might check it out at some point. I do think it's neat to hear them having fun exploring old metal stylings.

The Underground Resistance was a really strong album for me too and to be honest the last 10 years have left me with mixed feelings towards releases but i would really recommend Old Star out of the most recent batch for a listen. It was a the band firing on all cylinders,a real dark and menacing return to form,no fucking around with great riffs and intense and very satisfying vocals from Nocturno.
