TheAntagonist wrote: MonumentalBlackArt wrote: Fen - Our Names Written in Embers Part 2 I'm on the second track of their new album and so far I am not impressed. It's just boring. Don't worry... It gets better from there. Felt the same way about the first tracks. NP - Visigoth - The Revenant King So far this is really awesome. Just some good straight up heavy metal. They even cover one of my favorite Manilla road tracks "Necropolis". Shaping up to be a pretty solid album from what I have heard. Well, probably the second song is not the best one but the opening track Our Names Written in Embers Part 1 (Beacons of War) is truly great. I was listening to it while I was driving this morning. |

Seasons of the Wolf - Behind the Eyes of Evil This is basically perfect heavy metal. Just so well put together and atmospheric while still having the best kind of riffs and charisma to sound awesome. Really fucking good. |

Book of Black Earth - "Death of the Sun" from Horoskopus Listening to this and I'm beginning to feel really apprehensive like I'm on the verge of a panic attack. However, I think it has more to do with that fact that it is finally sinking in that I'm getting married in less than three months than anything to do with the actual music...... |

Perhaps Shape of Despair's best song right there. I also think the same thing, but I seriously doubt they can top Angels of Distress. |

Spiner202 wrote: Death - Story to Tell I forgot how good this album is. I haven't spent as much time with it as any other Death albums because it was the last one I got and I had already mostly worn out the others by this point, so I wasn't as big into Death anymore. With that said, what I dislike about this album is that it is the record where Chuck's songwriting formula (go through the song once -> bridge/solo -> go through the song again) stopped working because all of the songs were so long. It's a strange album, yeah, but another winner for Death. Dagen Og Natta (by Havnatt) from (2010) Whom The Moon A Nightsong Sings. Wow! First listen to this compilation and this song is REALLY nice! P.D: And, also: Dem Wind Geboren (by Dornenreich). |

Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Requiem Stellar sounds like a pretty adequately named album for this band's upcoming album. Beyond stoked to hear more stuff from this band, it's such a perfect combination of straight forward, scathing black metal riffs with some melancholic interludes. |

Nightwish - The Heart Asks Pleasure First WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS SONG?!? Okay, so it's merely an above-average little tune apparently covered from a song from some movie, and it's not really special in any way, but dammit! It's good enough! AND NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT IT. YOU BASTARDS. |

Tortorum - Open Wide The Gates Of Chaos Such an immense album, and a welcome addition to the ranks of outstanding orthodox black metal. Superbly crafted, skilled musicianship, intense atmosphere with plenty of raging aggression. One of the better black metal albums from last year without question. |

Sargeist - Empire of Suffering Let the Devil In has been the only Sargeist record that has gotten maximum plays. I need to listen to the new one. I hear it's gotten rawer, harks back to the band's old sound. |

One of my very favorite death metal releases right there. It's got such a special atmosphere to it that I've never heard elsewhere. Subterranean, eerie, horrible and sorcerous. The keyboard elements really take it to a different place. And Ihsahn's toad-man vocals fit a lot better in a death metal context than on In the Nightside Eclipse, I say. NP: Sol - Let There Be a Massacre Interestingly nuanced doom going on in this album, really enjoying it thus far. Bizarre that I'd never heard of this band before. Great vocals, lots of unusual sonic details subverting the usual doom palette. Thanks Crushed! |

Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle Man, I just don't know. I've listened to this thing a bunch of times now and I feel totally insane saying so, but I'm still pretty sure this is better than actual Summoning. They copy the drum programming and synth melodies perfectly, and while the harsh vocals maybe aren't *quite* as amazing as some of Summoning's best stuff, the band excels in other important ways. There aren't ridiculously overused voice samples, the songs maintain that all-important repetitious rumination on themes yet progress in a natural way that only the best Summoning songs do, there are really fucking excellent clean vocals, there's a slightly greater emphasis on actual prominent guitar riffs that has sadly not been present on the last couple of Summoning albums, and there's even lead guitar that really adds a lot to the sound, even though if someone had griped about Summoning themselves not having lead guitars I would have told them they were missing the entire point. But shit man, it's not only great but seems...vital? I dunno, this is great. |

@iamntbatman: I find it hard to believe that anyone has topped Dol Guldur. Nevertheless what you describe sounds totally intriguing and needs to be looked into by this guy who is me. NP: Sacramentum - Finis Malorum A whole 20 minute EP of the same ilk as Far Away From the Sun? Why did it take me so long to check this out? |

Rest assured no one has topped Dol Guldur, not even Summoning themselves . NP: Aurvandil - Thrones This is what I always wished Quebecois black metal sounded like. Wintry, relentless riff feast with swallowing production and some nice dwarvish acoustics here and there. I'd listened to some of Yearning before and this definitely sounds like a step up, much more well-defined and exciting. Will have to revisit his previous work in light of this, though. |

NP: Horrendous - Ecdysis I haven't been huge on death metal for the past couple years, but this kicks some serious ass. I bought it last month and I'm kicking myself for taking so long to actually listen to it! |

Yeah, will have to check out some of his following albums at some point. Seemed like interesting stuff. NP: Trenchgrinder - Demo 2015 Saw you guys mentioning this earlier (or in a different thread?) so I checked it out earlier this evening. Ripping, aggressive, Bolt Thrower-inspired death metal that sloucheth not. I headbanged. |
