Intense, dark power metal. Nothing quite like this out there.

Ehh, depends. It's a lot different. The guitars aren't quite as heavy or dominating at in the original, but it's a lot more folky with actual choirs this time around, instead of the synth-choirs. So that's a plus. The drum programming sounds better as well. So eh. Hard to say since both sound so different, yet both are great versions. I do really like the heaviness of the original recording, but the new one is also great in its folkier way. You could say it sounds more like a typical Graveland album now.
I'd recommend giving it a listen at least. I think Rob is one of the better musicians out there when it comes to the often hit-or-miss art of rerecording.

Ok, thanks!

I've always really enjoyed this album alot, and sometimes it seems like alot of people I talk to feel as though it is lackluster. I don't know man, it's been a favorite since the first time I listened to it.

I really dig that era of DsO. Sure it's Darkthrone worship or whatever, but Inquisitors has some seriously killer riffs.

I'll have to check it out.

VI - Of Wolf And Passion from (1997) Ulver - Nattens Madrigal (The Madrigal Of The Night).
Finishing the 3 albums of the trilogie in a row. AMAZING music!

Manipulated Slaves "The River Without End"

I was a bit apprehensive spending around $15 for a 3 song EP, but fortunately the last song turned out being 23 minutes long (divided over 6 parts).

It's my favourite era from them too. The splits with Moonblood and Clandestine Blaze from that time are also great. The Darkthrone influence is heavy, but it has its own feeling, a different kind of coldness, sort of danker, the sound of catacombs rather than forests.

Just finished listening to Alien by Strapping Young Lad. Been a year or so since I had a big SYL kick, the drums on this record never fail to amaze, and Dev's vocals are splendid.

The "actual" songs of the album sound great, too bad that they album drowns with too many instrumentals.

Sadus - Black

I've always felt that Sadus take thrash to it's natural conclusion; the fastest, wildest and most frantic side of the genre. I got really into Sadus about a year ago, listened to all of their records a few times, and then neglected them continuously until the last few months, in which I've discovered them much more "properly".

I can't even bring myself to be particularly disappointed by this album... so far it's been so thoroughly insipid that it would be like trying to get angry at a plate of unseasoned pasta. It just sort of... happens.

What if the band actually intended to make a terrible album to break down the morale of their fan base? Seriously though, that track was the one song I saw off the album listing that made me think "even if this does turn out to be a Reroute To Remain take on blackened grindcore, there's no way a song with that title could suck" and after a couple listens.. it stinks. The two songs I kinda panned over the first time turned out to be the only two solid tracks on the album; the Joystream and Rage and Red both have some cool chorus parts, though there's still a fucking breakdown somewhere in both of em. Fuck you, Metal Blade. I won't forget this.

Depths of Hatred - Unholy Incursion
I didn't realize this band had a new album out, so far it's pretty much exactly the same as Aversionist. Lots of technical death riffs with some slight core undertones and Black Dahlia Murder melody parts.

Absolutely worth the wait. Just what I was hoping for. I'm getting really sick of people saying, "Ooooh man, it sounds too much like Epicloud." Who gives a fuck, man? First of all, that was a great album, secondly, maybe that's just what he feels like writing? More Epicloud-esque is totally cool in my books.

Its a nice under-produced black metal album gives off this really melancholic vibe but manages to stay far from DSBM territory

Devin Townsend (Project) - Sky Blue.

This is really good. Poppy, upbeat, and just all around a solid album. What I've heard from the Ziltoid portion - Disc 2 / 3 - was not good. It sounded bloated and formed on silliness (no shit). Lasting impact was not long whatsoever while Sky Blue has been on heavy rotation.

John Taverner - The Myrrh Bearer

It would be great quiet, eery atmospheric music if it wasn't for the crass contrast of the recurring loud choral sections. I think they disturb the mood and don't really add all that much most of the time.

Remember these guys? Largely acoustic... oh wait, hang the fuck on, their new album is more or less a metal record; sort of doom-influenced rocking alternative sort of stuff. That came out of left field. It sounds cool, but it's a massive, massive departure.

What a great album. Such a cool sound to his music. Wunder definitely showed who had the chops in Cobalt (McSorley's new project Recluse is unremarkable).
