Richard Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Because this day needed a dose of epic.

Iron Maiden - 22 Acacia Avenue

I'm in an Iron Maiden mood today! I'm going to be listening to everything up to and including Seventh Son of a Seventh Son for the next few days, I think.

Windhand - Soma

Boleskine, to be exact.

Definitely one of the best doom albums this year.

Convulse - Oceans of Dust

The new album is not great, but I think it does pick up a bit towards the end. The start of the album is very mediocre.

If they play the same set for the whole tour, Rotting Christ will probably be playing largely new stuff - they're on great form though!

NP: Destroyer 666 - Australian and Anti-Christ

Top-notch blasphemous goodness to start off this study-session.

Impaled - Faeces of Death

I'm yet to hear the new album, but I'm assuming it's as awesome as everything else... Hopefully they haven't gone the way of Ghoul.

Virgin Steele - The Final Days

Lyrically might not be the most original thing DeFeis ever came up with and I dare to say that this song sounds slightly generic...but man, talking about a fun headbang-worthy tune full of anger here.

Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor, off Sin After Sin

I wonder what kind of reactions this got when released. Shit was insanely heavy for its time.

Daniele Gottardo - Guitar Sbrego

I just found out a new guitarist to admire, my favorite guitar player is Guthrie Govan, and this guy definitely has some Guthrie in his playing.

Symphony X - Bastards of the Machine

It's a testament to how good they are that they had such good slow, ballad-type songs before, but they clearly always wanted to do a record of songs like this and "Dehumanized." They sound sure of themselves and on fire here.

Esoteric is incredible. This song could not be more fitting for right now.

Disarray - I'll Be Standing, from In The Face of the Enemy

Not sure what led me to dust this one off and pull it from the shelf. It is actually much better than I remember it being despite the constant Pantera worship.

Cradle of Filth - She Mourns a Lengthening Shadow

I'm a total nut for these kind of synth orchestra pieces, and this might just be the finest of all the ones I've heard.

Unholy shit! that looks like a killer show, does Rotting Christ ever play their old demos/albums? That would be a treasure to see live.

Long live true black metal, long live Bathory worship, he demands more!

Masters Hammer - Duse nesmrtelnych

Been spending the last few weekends getting up making a strong cup of tea and sitting down to MH demos, its becoming a RITUAL, hahaha.

Captain Beefheart - Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)

It makes more sense the more you listen. Fucking addicting music. "When I See Mommy, I Feel Like A Mummy" is my new favourite jam

Masterplan - Warrior's Cry, off MK II

This certainly sounds better than the rest of Masterplan's drab bollocks.

Yob- The Great Cessation. Hard to hear the stoner in this but its crushingly heavy. I like the drum production.

Napalm Death - Death By Manipulation

This disc just rules, of course. Whole bunch of classic EPs plus a few live tracks. Mass Appeal Madness ep may be my favorite ND recording.

Kula Shaker - K

Seen this described as the Sgt. Pepper's of the mid-90s. Gonna have to agree.

Agalloch - As Embers Dress the Sky

I haven't listened to 'Pale Folklore' in ages. I still really like it. The only thing that detracts from it are the female vocals, because her style doesn't fit the music; she's way too operatic.

I'm investigating Black Doom metal, so yeah, I've beed hearing lot's of stuff. I like this one, but I will need to listen to it a couple of time to read into the music.

It's actually on the Official band youtube channel, so here it goes.

Yeah I thought I'd hate this album, but it's so mellow and meditative. Really won me over, even if I still dislike the cover art.

Blut Aus Nord - Epitome II

I've just made a play-list of all three 777 albums, and I'm going to keep it on 'til the end - this is going to be an interesting couple of hours.
