Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant

I don't know what it is. I just 'feel' the prog rock sounds more lately.

Cobalt : Gin

Meh. Not convinced. People seem to be very enthusiastic about this album but I just don't see it. Eater Of Birds is pretty cool, very dynamic and the interludes are among the best I've heard. Gin on the other hand just doesn't seem as well-wrought. But maybe it's a grower.

^^Puke are great indeed.

NP: Deep Purple - Machine Head

Classic album, just gettin' my groove on.

Queued:

Angel Witch - Loser EP

Never met anyone who was legitimately a metal fan who didn't like Angel Witch. This is some less-appreciated material of their 'classic' era.

Nihilist - Nihilist

Left Hand Path is the best Swedeath album and hearing filthier versions of those tracks is always a delight.

Mekhago NT/Religious as Fuck split (first listen)

I know Mekhago NT are great and Religious as Fuck have a great name so I'm expecting this to be delightful.

My Dying Bride - Vanite Triomphante

I love this album to death, and this song is one of the key reasons why.

I should listen to this.

Tool - Pushit

This song's been speaking to me lately. I'm not the Tool fan I once was, but they have their moments.

Vampire Pledge "Vampire Library"

Pretty nice female-fronted Japanese heavy/power metal. Definitely heavier and less melodic than I was expecting. The cutesy vocals sorta clash with the music, but its not that big of a deal. This CD was on back-order for 3+ months, so I'm probably more fond of it than I should be.

Savatage - Handful of Rain

Bluesy and emotional, very well done. You can tell they meant it.

Judas Priest - Starbreaker

I'm hopefully going to be ordering Sin after Sin and Stained Class LPs off of Discogs soon.

Voivod - Corpse Etranger

Listened to the new album way too much when it came out and after a while it began to sound a bit bland. Now spinning it for the first time after a some months and I think I can finally appreciate it properly.

NP: Destruction - Eternal Devastation

I'm not a big fan of Destruction; the only album of theirs I really enjoy is Infernal Overkill. This is decent though.

Queued:

Vio-Lence - Eternal Nightmare

Some of the best thrash riffs ever recorded accompanied by one of the best vocal performances. What's not to like?

Lou Reed - Berlin

Haven't listened to any Reed since he passed away. This is my favourite album of his.

Mercyful Fate - Melissa

Took a while for this one to click but it's an absolutely incredible album.

Source of Tide - Raven Goddess, from Ruins of Beauty

I'll be honest, I went into this album not really expecting much so this first song has caught me quite by surprise. Although it can be downright goofy at moments it has still managed to maintain my full attention and cause some definite head nodding moments. I'm actually looking forward to listening to the full album.

Rush - The Fountain of Lamneth

Interesting if not immaculate. Definitely worth $2.99 I paid for it...pretty cool album.

Nightwish - Beauty of the Beast

If you're going to make a 10-minute song, this is how to do it right. Best thing about Century Child in my opinion, and I like this even more than that other popular 10-minute song of theirs, "Ghost Love Score."

Helstar - Nosferatu

When I first listened to this album I didn't like it because of the vocals, now I realize I was an idiot. This is brilliant power/thrash metal and if you like good riffs(who doesn't?) you should give this a spin.

Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant

Such a brilliant album. Well, minus the cover of the British national anthem. I just end the album with the weird blues finish of 'Why Not?'.

NP: Bestial Mockery [Christcrushing Hammerchainsaw, 2002] - 3. Bestial Satanic Sacrifice (00:07/01:59) {194 kbp/s}
So over the top it's actually pretty good

Borrowed Time - Of Nymph and Nihil, off Borrowed Time

Hmmm. The music certainly is quality stuff, but I'm not really sold on the singer. His wavery inflection seems like a bit of an acquired taste.

Storm - Innferd

This band is a grower. The folk melodies they use seem too cheesy at first, but the songwriting is quite competent and they don't take folk as an excuse to write bland riffs.

Yeah, it's pretty great. It's far more adventurous than the debut, and quite successful at it. It pulls the whole progressive speed metal thing off masterfully. What's not to love?

This album is awesome! People who think funeral doom is boring need to check this out.

Ulver - Nattens Madrigal... (Wolf & Hatred to be exact)

I only find myself listening to this maybe 5 or 6 times a year now, absolute masterpiece of an album... first heard it over 14 years ago now and I really think it only gets better with time...

Funeral doom doesn't get much better than the first two Skepticism albums.

NP: Tim Hecker - Virgins

I don't find this album as gripping and totally devastating as Ravedeath, 1972 but it is still a very good album nonetheless.

NP: Morpheus Descends - Ritual of Infinity

Classic OSDM. Catchy riffs throughout.

Queued:

Rainbow - Long Live Rock N' Roll

Sometimes you've just got to stick on something with great tunes that you can dance to.

Warrior - Fighting for the Earth (first listen)

USPM, based on failsafeman's review I should enjoy it.

Demilich - Nespithe

I struggle with this one. It sounds like good death metal, and I think I enjoy it, but sometimes it really seems to lack enough simple riffs I can bang my head to.

Because that's the only album people who buy t-shirts of album covers to up their underground metal cred have heard.

Judas Priest - Here Come the Tears

Bolt Thrower - At First Light, off Those Once Loyal

Great balance between melody, groove, and all out heaviness.
