Mgła - With Hearts Toward None III

This song has not one, not two, but like three of the greatest black metal riffs all wrapped up in a single tune.

Haha yeah, Mgla's music is pretty sweet.

Primordial - Empire Falls
No introduction is needed for these guys.

Alice in Chains - Sea of Sorrow

Powerful metal epic - this really is their most 'metal' album, too bad it's also the most inconsistent. First five or six songs are gold though.

Iced Earth - Mystical End

Been a while since I listened to any Iced Earth, thought I'd listen to Night of the Stormrider. Already counting down the tracks to Travel In Stygian.

Manilla Road - Shadow in the Black

Second listen to this one, and the first Manilla Road album I've ever bought, really enjoying it, although it certainly has the feel of an acquired taste; some of the drumming on is weird and jarring.

I really enjoyed the whole album. It had a unique atmosphere as if it black metal written by a wandering drifter. Also reminds me a bit of Peste Noire. Which I guess makes sense. Pretty sure Famine produced and mastered it.

I enjoyed it a lot too, one of the gems of modern black metal for sure. I thought of ordering it from Famine's label along with the PN demos, but it would be too expensive, maybe some other time.

Kamelot - Black Tower

Call me crazy but I like this much better than the Roy Khan stuff. The singer sounds pretty silly with his histronics (he would probably really good if he just backed off on the emoting and focused on the melodies) but there are loads of USPM riffs and the keyboards don't swamp the whole arrangement with sugar.

If you don't like the vocals, listen to the awesome guitar work and actually interesting songwriting instead. I'll certainly take it over Siege Keyboardus.

Blind Guardian - Journey through the Dark

The most overrated PM band ever, but this album is still a bona fide classic, and deserves a place among the best metal albums ever.

I'm sorry Woolie_Wool, but any positive opinion pertaining to Vanderbilt fronted Kamelot is simply wrong :-P

Your dismissal of Blind Guardian makes me sad, Emp. We agree on SFB being an all time metal classic though.

Pretty much anything after Imaginations is just insanely overhyped and overrated...not really bad but still, is it really the best PM out there? I really, really don't think so.

Arcana - La Salve de Profundis

I really need to get a hold of at the very least, the album following this one (Cantar de Procella), as they have a way of creating vivid, vast sound-scapes which are enthralling.

Cool as fuck dirty death metal, which slightly reminds me of Necrovore.
