Utada Hikaru - Sakura Nagashi

Haunting and beautiful, which is pretty unusual for the typically loud and unsubtle Utada...

Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings

This really is a pretty damn good song. The atmosphere is magnificent. Based on the fact that they never had any kind of atmosphere again, much less anything this good, I'm guessing it was accidental.

Swans - The Seer

Apocalyptic music at its best. Swans are still more metal than most metal bands.

^ Man, I need that album. Preferably before I finish the trilogy.

Bolt Thrower - Entrenched

Probably not the perfect essay background music, but it's giving me a determination-boost.

I agree - they just nailed consistent songwriting on that one. From the haunting verses and catchy chorus to the dark, creepy part where Barlow growls out in agony - it all comes together perfectly. Too bad the rest of the album sucks.

NP: Virgin Steele - On the Wings of the Night

This sounds so silly.

Damn Colin, I thought you were my friend :aww:

King Diamond - Eye of the Witch, off The Eye

This album is badly underrated. It's as if everyone forgot that KD exists after Conspiracy!

The fact that that's one of the best rated albums on the archives speaks otherwise. ;) It's easily my second favorite in his catalogue, and an amazing album from start to finish.

Was playing: Deathrow - Deception Ignored

The zenith of thrash composition in my eyes. It's one of those few albums that makes you wonder how it could even be created from scratch.

NP: Rigor Mortis - Die in Pain

Yeah, really loving the classics today. This probably has the most astounding guitar-work I've ever heard on an album. The solo in this song is just like... :aww:

Yeah, I know that. Thing is, people don't talk about it as much as I'd like :-P But yes, it's a badass album. By the way, Deception Ignored kicks ass. All of the ass.

King Diamond - The Trial (Chambre Ardente), off The Eye

Really bloody sinister tune. I wouldn't like to be in the protagonist's shoes, to be honest.

Dragged into Sunlight - Buried with Leaches

There's a lot more death-metal in the recipe than I remember when I last listened to the album, and I like it.

It is good, isn't it? I was going to see them in Boston back in October but they had to postpone because of the hurricane. They're playing next month but I already got my refund and I don't think I'll bother. Anyway, I haven't bought the album yet but I listened to the stream for days on end when it came out. Koi No Yokan sounds fresher than ever. It's got that sleek, sexiness I crave from Deftones, and the songs are beautifully consistent.

Manilla Road - Mysterium

The song unfolds into a heavy epic, but a laid back feel pervades the track, I think it's great.
