Thanks to androdion for mentioning this album! I'm giving it a listen now after a while of not hearing it. I agree with the review that the production is not the best, but in a way it gives this a more human feel. Still quite cool, though.

Earlier: Orgone - The Goliath
Majestic, one of a kind tech death with post-y tendencies.

Now: Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Love the riffs on this one. They're never too wanky as they vary things up with some heavier groove-ish moments.

WINTER: INTO DARKNESS

I like both of these. The Goliath is a tough album to listen to because it appears to be so random, but beneath that there's a level of cohesiveness. I like your description of "majestic", as I feel the production is quite warm, so to speak, for a wild technical death metal outfit. I haven't heard anything like it, though.

The Conductor's Departure is the best thing Anata have done, I think. Every song has its own identity, which is something unusual for technical death. Great album.

I haven't heard anything similar to Orgone either. The closest I've heard are Stephen Jarrett's (the guitarist) other bands Meadow and Miracle Worker (both have bandcamp pages). They're not tech death in the slightest but they do have much more of the post-y tendencies of Orgone. Pretty catchy stuff too. Also if you haven't done so yet, you could look into their 2nd album, The Joyless Parson, or their Accumulator demo. Both are excellent as well.

And Anata are one of my favourite tech death bands. Their entire discography is golden.

Humanoid - Remembering Universe I've been listening to this during the past week and I have to say that it has touched me in the right places. I wasn't expecting a semi-acoustic album to be this good but I should've known what to expect given the ones who play in it. Really atmospheric and soothing, good for an easy wake up.

Atlantean Kodex - Temple of Katholic Magick, off the Golden Bough The production could use some work and the vocals aren't exactly the best around, though I still like it. Very decent epic doom metal. Also, this song's title is basically a fancy way to say "church".

Black Cilice - A Corpse, a Temple. While this is certainly more melodic than the demo and EP I've heard from him, this is still very much a noisy wall of sound, with drums and howling vocals in the background.

I like this album, even though I don't listen to it too much for my doom metal fix. Marduk - Serpent Sermon I was wondering if they could make a worthy follow-up to Wormwood, and I think they have with this one. While I think that one may be slightly better, Serpent Sermon still has a lot of cool songs. It's probably a step up in terms of speed, too, even though there are slower sections, which I think Marduk do well.

Their entire discography is golden. NP: Dionaea - Still They call themselves 'post grind', which sounds pretentious, but it's actually somewhat accurate. They frequently switch from laid-back reverb-soaked clean passages to bursts of harsh, dissonant mathcore. I do wish the 2 genres could be integrated better though, instead of just switching styles every few minutes.

I listened to this again the other night and your description is spot on. The band is amazing and the heavy groove is unexpected and done so tastefully. Great band. New album, please!

I have Accumulator but not the newest album, so it looks like I might have to get that one at some stage, too! Thanks for that. I do like all of Anata's stuff, too, but The Conductor's Departure is their peak for me. Cannibal Corpse - Gallery Of Suicide Just bought this one today, as it's the only Corpsegrinder-era album I didn't have. It's probably not as good as the one after it (Bloodthirst), but it's still a worthy listen, for me. Typical Cannibal Corpse, but nothing bad. I like it.

Finny finding time to get into the band, Overkill. Just listened to Overkill - Feel the fire and oh man, that was some kick ass shit. That vocalist's scream is, damn! Listening to horrorscope now. Why do they have to slow down so much? I mean, I haven't really heard the other albums, so I don't know how they've changed to this new, slower, more redundant style. It's only my first impression, mind you. On this track new machine, it's just as slow as the last track, horrorscope, and it's getting redundant. I don't like hearing the same thing like, over and over again. WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF A NEW MACHINE! Yeah, okay! WHATEVER! I DON'T CARE! This album feels a little more mature than feel the fire, style wise. It's great music for background music to the extremely difficult doom mod i'm playing. I plan on listening to their earlier albums after this. It's just in the order the albums are on my iTunes. I saw overkill's feel the fire at my local record store on vinyl, for 25 dollars. It's kind of a lot for me for me to spend, now that I have no income, and I don't usually pick up an album so soon after listening to it for the first time. But feel the fire was really good. Now playing: soulitude Oh man, this track sucks. I'm gonna gag at this fucking sentimental goddamn bullshit.
