Hypocrisy - Weed Out the Weak

It's a shame Tagtgren has shelved Hypocrisy.

I think for a band like that, it is.

Rise Against - Siren Song For The Counter Culture

Oh hell yes!

Autumn Tears - Love Poems for Dying Children, Act I

Splendidly weird music. Proper 'the neighbour is sorry she asked' title, too, 'Love Poems...' !

I think my favourite thing about AT is that they fit so neatly into a doom playlist, as they often sound exactly like the middle slow bit from a Funeral / Anathema / Katatonia / type album.

Is that that first time you've heard that album? It's my second favorite behind Sufferer.

Aldaria - Land of Light

This could be my AOTY. It's like Freedom Call: Avantasia Edition.

I put this album and Hell Awaits over Reign In Blood. There is just something more about the melodies of this album and the brutal atmosphere of Hell Awaits that Reign In Blood just can't touch.

^This. This so fucking much.

Anthem- "Night Stalker".

I get into these guys on and off constantly, and every time I do, I find a new song from them I really like. This one just fucking slays; purely evil and crushing, like a thrash song in slow motion.

It's the third time I've heard the full album. I've known about 'Give It All' for about 13 years though. If this ISN'T their best I can't imagine how good Sufferer is.

Sufferer is the bridge between their older hardcore/punk style and their new rock/punk style. I have no data to back this up, but I think quite a few RA fans would consider Sufferer to be their best album. Give it a go!

Rise Against - Six Ways 'Til Sunday

Illimitable Dolor - Illimitable Dolor

Australian funeral doom that's mournful, enthralling, and keeps you interested. Love the deep growled vocals, too, echoing over the melodic riffs. Could be the best funeral doom of this year, but we'll see.

Rise Against - Six Ways 'Til Sunday

Yeah Sufferer is their Somewhere Far Beyond, if you will. The first three albums are generally more punk (and Revolutions Per Minute is their second best, don't listen to TD!) and the ones after Sufferer are more modern rock/punk (while still generally aggressive in some form (check out songs like Amerika, Disparity by Design or The Great Die Off)). Sufferer itself, on the other hand, has a healthy blend of both (more melodic and radio friendly tracks like Injection, Ready to Fall, and their biggest hit before Savior, Prayer of the Refugee (which I'm sure you've probably heard by accident at some point simply by virtue of existing), and also heavier punk tracks like Chamber the Cartridge, Drones, and my all time favorite RA song, Bricks), and it marks the point where Tim just suddenly and inexplicably learned how to sing. His cleans no longer have that scratchy quality to them, they're full and clean and powerful and just out of fucking nowhere he seemed to figure it out. It's a phenomenal album, and if you like either era of Rise Against there's really no excuse for not being intimately familiar with and loving the hell out of Sufferer. I didn't even touch on all the weird ideas like the mostly spoken word The Approaching Curve or soothing acoustic duet Roadside. They tried out a whole bunch of new ideas and for the most part they all worked.

I really like RPM (Last Chance Blueprint the most), but Siren Song is definitely my second favorite album. It's nice to have someone else on this forum that likes Rise Against as much as I do (probably more).

Rise Against - The Strength To Go On

I absolutely love this song. It's probably my favorite from Appeal to Reason.

Rebirth of Nefast - Alignment Divine

Really need to get this slab of crushing blackness. This may end up being my black metal album of this year. Fucking ridiculously excellent black metal here.

Jorn/Trond Holter - Queen of the Dead

This entire album is ridiculously underrated. Jorn and Trond absolutely nailed this.

Edit: This is now a Trond Holter solo project with Nils K. Rue on vocals? Huh.

Love Anthem. I haven't actually heard the album Night Stalker is from, I need to check that one out! The debut and 'Bound to Break' are god damn near perfect though. I discovered them as a companion-piece to Loudness. They're so riffy and muscular but still mostly just want to be Judas Priest. Man, what a band.

Sabbat - Sabbatrinity

It's been six years since we got a proper album from these guys. As much as I love the avalanche of splits, EPs and singles, I could really go for another full-length of burack metah!

All That Remains - The Fall Of Ideals

When I saw them live, the drummer must have gotten Lycanthropy. He was beastly.

Living Death - Rulers Must Come

Yeah that's uh...that's a title they chose. This is a mid-paced little jewel set among a cluster of speedier gems. From their second album, Metal Revolution, where I think they fixed their biggest issue from the debut which was annoying as fuck choruses. This album keeps the savage riffing and fixes the hooks a bit. To be honest Living Death are completely ignorant, caveman speed metal. If you want melody and singing look elsewhere.

Man, I remember spending my holidays staying up all night, reading LoTR, with this in the background, and the light of dawn creeping up the sky. Great stuff.

Fantastic debut EP here. Very riffy melodeath from Japan. It starts off a little weak but from the halfway point onwards it's all great music.

Tends to get overlooked, but a marked improvement over their first album while still retaining the thrashiness.

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

I like listening to some slow burning ambient electronic type shit before going to bed. This album slaps all over the place like a salmon on rocks. Classic and it makes me feel all fuzzy inside. The progression of each track is so satisfying. Aphex Twin is an obvious (good) choice too.
