Helmsplitter - Aura Of Suicide

Holy crow! This shit came out of nowhere to blow me away this morning. Found this track on the HPG Records bandcamp sampler and dig the composite stew of blackened death metal and crust. Wicked stuff!

Thanatos - Global Purification

It's not their greatest work, but Thanatos are still yet to disappoint me.

Korperschwache - "There Is a Certain Smell Attractive to Wolves" from Evil Walks

Finally undertaking the task of giving this album a full listen. It doesn't seem like it is going to be an easy listen at all, as it already is making me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Evifeast-Im Shatten der Majestät des Eistodes.

The sophomore album is probably the less brilliant, though its another piece of art, but this song is a fucking masterpiece.

Saturn III from (1997) Fu Manchu - The Action is Go.
8 minute song by Fu Manchu?!? Really?!? But... it works ala (1997) Orange Goblin - Frequencies from Planet Ten!

Scorpions - Blackout

It's a lonely day listening music, driking beer and writing stupid horror stories. Again. I feel like a second class citizen. I've listened mostly catchy hard rock lately, stuff like Scorpions, old Europe, even some Sweet. This album is mostly good, though some songs aren't that hot.

Mynd Asylum-La fin de D´une Ére

Great French black metal with a nice violin, very interesting.

Killing Joke - Millennium

The closest KJ ever got to mainstream metal appeal. In many ways, they took the ideas of bands they influenced (like Helmet and Prong) and filtered it back into their own sound. Remember seeing this video on Headbanger's Ball back in the day.

Aequus Nox - Scala Paradisi

It is quite obvious that this black metal band lacks something(although i still can't decide what exactly it is), but it definitely isn't good riffs. They're well stocked with those.
Quite an enjoyable album

Ripper - Await Your Death

Got to love it when modern bands play something ''retro'' and manage to pull that off with such convince as good as the bands they were influenced by. So far the best thrash metal band in recent years that I've heard of. Absolutely fantastic, inspiring music.

Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter... ...to the Slaughter

A very unconventional Maiden song, but it's the most enjoyable on the No Prayer for the Dying album.

Black/Thrash from France in the vein of Sabbat. They're a fun band.

That one is definitely good too, very emotional. But I think it suffers from the blandness of that whole album. Bring Your Daughter... is the only one with passion.

Currently spinning Sühnopfer Offertoire on my turntable and am enjoying it. The production is great not to mention the music itself is genius. This has to be one of the best black metal releases of all time in my opinion. If you're a fan of melodic black metal, you owe it to yourself to own this. There are so many memorable moments and hooks to grab your attention and keep it. Also get a cd copy to listen to in a vehicle if you're diehard like me.

Revolt - 'Human Abattoir' 7-inch (1996)

An ultra-obscure record that's somewhat difficult to categorize. It more or less falls within the hardcore/crust genres, but with definite hints of death metal and sludge. Some pretty killer midtempo riffs contrasted with faster polka/blast parts. A random, cheap Discogs find that turned out to be rather good.

Arkona - Zimushka
I've always sorta shoved this band aside but damn are слово and Гой роде Гой damn good albums. Can't stop listening to this stuff. Oddly enough, it's helping to deal with girl problems too somehow. Fuck, I miss this girl. I guess Arkona, a vow of non-texting and copious vodka and scotch (the pains of being Scottish and Czechoslovak/Ukrainian) will get me through another dirty Shitmas. :(

ALCHEMIST - Organasm

Haven't listened to this band in ages, but I was thinking of old memories and recalled these guys. Decided to give the first song, Austral Spectrum, a listen and it was as great as I remembered. So here we are today, listening to the album. Still need to track down Spiritech. Last one I need.

Musically there's not much going on here, but i really like Roman's growls. Hmmmn... I should probably listen to Blood of Kingu

Arcturus - Ad Astra

Very good stuff, but the drums sound like shit (the real ones, the electronic beat is cool), and Garm's vocals are bad. Had this been a purely synth track with guitar solos, it might be one of the best songs I've ever heard. The solos are so good...

Tool- The Grudge

I've been a fan of metal longer than I've been a fan of Tool, but the last minute or so of this song is still one of the most intense experiences I've ever had with music. Danny Carey is a master.

Its far from being their best album, but at least it has some decent tunes, like this one, for example.

And Oceans..- Je te connais beau masque

Awesome sympho bm from Finland.

I wondered why I was smiling, and now I know!

NP: Goatsnake - Slippin the Stealth

It's taken me a while to appreciate these guys but now I can safely say I'm a fan

Bathory - Octagon

Not to sound like one of those annoying apologists that pop up 10 years after a poorly recieved album is released, but I actually really dig Bathory's "thrash" albums. Yes they're raw and amateur as fuck, but goddamn is there some fine riffs and a really angry vocal performance.

Satan's Host - Greed, Lust, Hate, War

Pre-dating God is so fucking good - I'm as addicted to this as I was By the Hands of the Devil several years ago. Heavy riffs, dramatic vocals, evil lyrics...loving it.

I would second this opinion. They may have been some blatant Slayer copycat albums, but they sounded wayy better than whatever the hell Slayer was doing during the same time period.

Reaping Asmodeia - Bodies in Barrels
I feel like there's been more deathcore that's come out this year that I enjoy more than traditional death metal. Ovid's Withering, these guys, Boris the Blade, and Nexilva all put out some pretty heavy stuff in 2014.

Nihilobstat - "V" from their only demo

Lo-fi, bass-heavy black/doom sounding a little like Ride for Revenge at their rawest and most brutal, albeit with some melodic sections as well. This unfortunately seems to be the only track available on YouTube, but it's enough to make me track down a copy of the demo tape.

Satan's Host has easier been one of my top favorite bands since I've started listening to them. They have everything I could want in a metal band.

Listening to Descending in the Shadow of Osiris by Satan's Host. Curious if these albums will be considered metal classics years from now.

Maybe. I think the Pre-dating God albums are some of the more solid and well-rounded work they've done. I'll have to listen to By the Hands again to see if it's really better though.

Steel Prophet - New Life

Hearing this last summer really blew me away.

Sargeist - A Spell to Awaken the Temple

For some reason I haven't bothered to ever listen to Sargeist until recently, while on paper, everything about this band I should like. Let's say it's better to be late to the party than not attend it at all.
