I've been bumping nothing but El-P's fantastic damage. Such a brilliant album with so much complexity from the production, lyricism and rap styles. Such a perfect balance of features, the def jux roster back in the day was fucking nuts man. Aesop rock, Ill Bill, a bunch of dope white cats in hip hop that always knew who they were (well to an extent I guess). This is such a great album holyfuckingshit if you like hip hop listen to this hnnnnnnnnngg.

Good slab of German death metal.

Good choice, sir.

NP: Manilla Road - Avatar

Plenty of tunes on Mark of the Beast sound cool but this one really is the crown jewel. It's hardly metal, but I'd be lying if this doesn't have more attitude and fire than most metal tunes. Shelton really sounds like he's experiencing what he sings on here and the final two minutes sound like hell of a fun jam session.

DragonForce - Judgement Day

This is DragonForce's new song and it's absolutely atrocious. I hate when people label stuff non-metal/metal, but this is a pop song.

^ So far I'm liking this better than their last album. Sounds bright and colorful and fun. The new singer has a very pop-punk cadence to his voice which is probably the issue, though...

I'm listening to the song again and I think the problem might be Hudson (and the fact that he's so high in the mix). His vocals are just lifeless on this track, which is odd, because he's never had that issue before. It's like he showed up 20 mins before they were set to record the vocals and read the lyrics off of a napkin.

Sounds fine to me, too. It's Dragonforce--it was always gonna be shamelessly cheesy, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I just hope they don't have any fillers this time around - the new song sounds more involved and technical like their old stuff and like they put more work into it. If the whole album is like that it could be their most enjoyable since Theart left.

Hudson always has that weird lilt to his voice that makes it sound like a pop rock or pop punk band, it's an odd choice. Theart's 80s glam style was much better for me.

Sentient Horror - Ungodly Forms

Good stuff. I especially like the Entombed-style death-and-roll stomp of the title track.

One of my favorites from them.

Bad Religion - No Control

Was able to spin this like 6 times in the car today. Tied as my favorite punk album. Just some of the best music ever crafted.

an excellent way to go out. Mutiilation were always ahead of Vlad Tepes for me, and I seriously loved their simple and black metal as fuck sound. But this shows progression and growth, and is a great atmo-bm work

Stormwarrior - Thunder & Steele

This band rips like few others... just totally nails that German heavy/speed cheese factor and has enough melody to carry it.

I keep trying to get into that band and I just can't make it work.

Excalion - Quicksilver

I hate that Jarmo is gone, but I'm looking forward to the new Excalion album.

Therion - Theli

Ok, I'm going to launch some real deal np discussion here. This band, Therion, what's the deal with them? What would be general opinions and so on and so forth? I remember stumbling across Sirius B a while back and thinking it was cool, and I've just been recommended this, and I'm just stumped on what kind of niche this band falls under. This is definitely cool, but it's really just kind of strange to me. I'm getting the impression that their discography is kind of wild to dig into.

^^^ Yeah, it's a fantastic record. A great addition to an already ridiculously good discography. Can't wait to see them live soon.

What's your opinion on this album? Because I just don't know what to think of Pallbearer. They're a lot like Opeth to me - I should like them, and there are parts that I really do like, but as a whole, they seem lacking to me. This applies to both Foundations of Burden and Heartless. It's a decent listen, but not more than that.

NP:
Gravehuffer - Your Fault
Is this... crossover thrash/death? It works, reminds me a bit of Ghoul, just less ridiculous.

Pretty cool Middle Eastern post-black metal. Definitely refreshing, probably going to be better than that upcoming Ghost Bath album. :P
