Drudkh sure is something huh

NP: Ash Borer - Ash Borer

Pretty good black metal, even if a little generic for this style.

Protector - a shedding of skin/the heritage
Not the greatest thrash I've heard but it's very energetic and well played. I need to pick up the earlier albums at some point. R.I.P. Michael Hasse

Drudkh is one of the best bands I have listened to in a very long time. These guys took an ugly genre and turned it into something beautiful. Probably my favourite black metal band right now.

Behemoth - The Satanist

I just bought this from the record store but haven't opened it up yet. I want to see if it'll grow on me in the coming days. I do like "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" very much.

Sirius Roar "Qualia"

This has been steadily growing on me and is one of my favorite power metal albums from this year so far.

Gojira - Flying Whales

Been really getting into Gojira more as of late. This song in particular is excellent.

I'm way more fan of the bm-era, but i'm surprised to say that liked it! the little things that they added on that one (a bit of DSO, a bit of melody, neat basslines..) worked really well with their riffs for me :)

Shining - For the God Below

Great song! worthy of notice are the two really impressive solos: Huss is a damn underrated lead player and LaRocque rips as expected ;)

Yeah, me too. Their first two are some of the finest black metal albums I have come across, and it's a shame they're so underrated. I always find myself whistling to song from Grom.

:np: Cryptopsy - Whisper Supremacy

I don't get the issue people have with DiSalvo's vocals, at least on this album. His grunts are powerful and percussive, and fit the music very well. This album is quite a chaotic one, to say the least.

I've been listening to Ecdysis too much to give this album the attention it deserves.

I feel like the issue with most of Cryptopsy isn't the singer. I like Whisper Supremacy, but I'll confess that I'm a little put off by how inorganic the production is compared to None So Vile.

NP: Mutiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood

Decided to come back to this band, I actually really enjoy this album now. Still can't really get into Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul and I'm still astonished why it's one of the most wanted albums by people on this site.

Buckethead - "The Closed Triptych"

Man, this is one his very best. These riffs are so entrancing while the solos are superb! The fact that this is a free download is nuts.

D.O.A. - Hardcore '81

Not metal...but it rocks hard and has more attitude, balls and intensity than a lot of metal.

Inquisition - Magnificent Glorification of Lucifer

Their worst album easily. Only listening to help with its installment of my Inquisition review series.

Malevolent Creation - Invidious Dominion

I'm surprised this band hasn't been mentioned more often in this thread. I think they deserve a little more recognition. As for this album, it's old school death metal with modern production. I would never have guessed it was a Nuclear Blast production, but now that I know, I can definitely hear it.

Malevolent Creation's first two albums still stand as some of my favorite death metal of all time.

True that. The debut is fucking excellent, I always go back for more.

Now this album I'm listening to right now is still fun and all, but it's becoming too predictable. Broken down intro, blast beat with riff, thrash section, repeat.

They're a(n upper) b-level death metal band. They have some good stuff, maybe even a classic or two, but not necessarily a catalog full of bangers. At their best, they can't compete with the best of their contemporaries in Morbid Angel, Death, Obituary, etc.

Magic Circle - Journey Blind

Dope as fuck doom

I can't disagree with them being a second their death metal band, but I think they are better than Obituary.

I'm not exactly the biggest death metal fan, but Malevolent Creation represent exactly what I look for in the genre. The first two albums are utterly amazing in my opinion. I like my death metal with a really thrashy vibe. A lot of death metal is a relentless onslaught of blast beats and bass-crammed vocals, but I don't care for that. I like riff after riff of death-thrash goodness, and those two albums are just that. I really need to find more bands like them.

I don't know about you, but that's exactly how I used to like my death metal when I was still getting into the genre, but not going too deep into it because it was "too scary", LOL. Eventually, it'll get boring and stale very quickly. That's why there are "transition" bands that will gradually help you get in the more extreme end of the style. But hey, that's just me, and many others around here. :P

Omen - Battle Cry

Very big heavy metal influence in this USPM release. Great riffs and overall very well written songs, but those vocals are not doing it for me.

Malevolent Creation is one of the best imo, and one of the most consistent too. First two and Eternal are my favorites.

NP: Terminal Redux. Pretty much only listening to this with the occasional break to cleanse the palate.

My favorite moment of the album changes almost daily.

For my demons.. at monday morning? I feel the urge to buy you a "hang in there" poster with the cute kitten

...also i need it too. I've spent the night recording a band that played a mixture of heavily downtuned and slowed down Load-era Metallica riffs with Celtic Frost-like solos and a power metal vocalist.. i wanted to share my pain :(

Ulver - Kveldssanger (full)

Haavard is one of my guitar heroes.. i hope that one day he will come back with an acoustic album, it's unfair the fact that he disappeared :(
