Epica - Reverence (Living in the Heart)

The quintessential Epica track. It's almost as if this song has always existed, it's that quintessential.

Eldritch Rites - Man Beast

Night of the Witch Grinder is a damn good doom EP and the aforementioned song is easily my favorite.

NP: Abazagorath [Sacraments of the Final Atrocity, 2004] - 5. Lifeless (02:41/07:02) {192 kbp/s}
Solid black metal album so far. Better than their first album, too

October 31 - The Fire Awaits You

Some righteous riffage to be found here. :np:

Kreator - Flood Into Fire

Awesome song, great mix of melodic and heavy passages. These guys are really churning out some great albums. Not many like the last few around today.

Opeth - The Moor

Has to be in my top fifteen metal songs of all time. An incredible song on an astounding album. This never gets old.

Suicide Silence - In A Photograph

Still pretty much the heaviest song I have ever heard.

Vhol - S/T

Here's one "Super group" that lives up to the hype. While every member of the band shines, Cobbett's riff work here is incredible. These guys did a great job incorporating crust, punk, hardcore, thrash and black metal. I hope they can stay together and put out more albums of this caliber

Horrendous - The Stranger

This is really a stunning album. Some of the best composed and written metal of the year for sure...near perfect metal guitar styling. Plus the sorrowful and mysterious atmosphere is cool and the variety between songs is first rate. Definitely a Top 5 contender for the end of the year.

You're welcome man.
I thought that album was quite popular, made it unto a lot of "best of 2013" lists. Anyways its a hell of an album. Also, you're spot on about the tinges of Rush.

Disentomb - Abominations Created Through Divinity

The second album in the past few years that I simply cannot get enough of. This is right up there with Katalepsy's Autopsychosis as my favorite album in the past several years. Masterful riffing, riff blending, and riffing riffage.

Future Islands - Grease

My favourite song. Powerful, nostalgia inducing and, if under the influence of the right psychedelics, sheer euphoria.

Myrkur-Nattens barn

Having received the EP and confirming my first impression, there are some great melodies and original ideas, some mistakes too but its an interesting beginning.

Electric Wizard - Incense for the Damned

Contrary to my moaning on and on about the guitar tone a few months ago, the new Electric Wizard album is turning out to be quite reasonable. So far, it's been mostly more of the same, but that's not really a problem. Witchcult Today part-three.

Ceremonial Castings - Immortal Black Art

Symphonic black metal at its finest, on par with Emperor's Nightside Eclipse.
I really like the song structures in addition to the melody

Blut Aus Nord - MoRT - Chapters VII-VIII

The closing section of VII and the opening of VIII are probably the most tangible recreation of an epileptic fit I have ever heard; almost disconcertingly seizure-like. I can see why this record isn't among the bands most highly rated, as it's very inaccessible and challenging, but it's definitely enjoyable in its way.

Genocide Shrines - Apparitions of Spiritual Obliterations
Really digging the debut EP. Music-wise this is some top notch death/black metal hailing from a place you'd least expect metal coming from. My only gripe with the album is that they have too many interludes.

Ozzy Osborne w/ Randy Rhoades: Believer

This is off the live album that was released as a tribute to Randy. His guitar work throughout the album (not to knock everyone else) is phenomenal and this is probably my favorite live track ever.

Yeah, three interludes is quite an overkill. Other than that, its a very good EP.

Np : Tyrants Blood - Into the Kingdom of Graves

Very intense and quite technical Black/Death Metal. Good luck trying to remember the riffs

I think Carcass should be classified as Melodic-Deth metal.

This album is mental, but what a blast to hear. Basically my ultimate album.

Swallowed - Lunarterial

GodDAMN. First listen to this thing and, well, FUCK. The drums are absolutely savage and completely unhinged on this thing, and it's wonderful to hear death metal this relentlessly dark that has this vocal approach (think more like Teitanblood than the legions of Pillard clones that are around these days). Then the RIFFS....these guys absolutely fucking nail an incredible sense of tension/release with how the brooding slow doomy parts explode into barely-controlled rage. The production's also excellent - I love how the guitars are panned way out to the sides and the really dirty bass is right up front. Definitely one of the best things I've heard yet this year.

Swallowed fucking rocks, the 25 mins song is excellent. It's a great mix of plenty of influences, atmospheric psych doom/death with black metal elements. Another big success for ogmetal and DDR.

Speaking of long ass songs;

NP: Darkspace III I

Intense as fuck so far.

I'm not really hearing much/any "psych" in this...just relentless, intense doom/death with a nice blackened edge. Though, I'm only about seven minutes into the final song so maybe there's a totally out-of-place psych freakout in the middle or something, but I sorta doubt it. (edit: ok, there was sort of a cacophonous psych-y falling apart at the end of that last song, but I dunno if that's enough to label the whole thing as psych-ish.)

I'm going to have to re-listen to that Darkspace, but I gotta say I really didn't care much for all those silly dance beats and stuff in that first song. The rest just sounded like regular ol' Darkspace, but I really can't see it usurping III as the Darkspace album I'll put on when I feel like listening to Darkspace.

Celtic Legacy - Guardian Angel

A top 15 or 20 album for me, for sure. Impeccable, beautiful heavy metal with celtic flourishes and some of the best vocals and sense of melody out there. I'll have to do a review.
