"Oath Of The Abyss" -
Ritual Necromancy

I saw them live what feels like ages ago. I think it was with Weregoat.

Gorewinter - Winterholocaust

Decent 90s Finnish black metal demo. Like Moonblood but much less melodic.

Dream Theater - Caught in a New Millennium

Goofy shit like this is why this band was best with Portnoy. Post-Portnoy Dream Theater just feels way too rigid and self-serious.

Brocas Helm - Defender of the Crown

This is such a fun album. Some of the bass parts are truly amazing; Jim Schumacher has a weird playing style, but it fits the band so well.

Candlemass - Ashes to Ashes Live

Goddamn, Candlemass kicked ass live with Lowe. The version of "Dark are the Veils of Death" on here is amazing.

Lake of Fire by Nocturnus!

I love how evil this band manages to sound. They were way ahead of their time.

I agree. Glad to see you're enjoying the Rush. Now, lemme tell ya, Hemispheres is the best thing ever. Hands down. It's my single favorite piece of music ever EVER released; nothing even compares. It's just so freaking good. It's heavy, it's complex, it's full of lyrical mastery but at the same time it's easy to latch on to and all of the soft sections are so beautiful. Not a single section is out of place, every second is masterful. Make sure you give that album a full week or so to soak in, if you enjoyed the first three Rush records, then you're about to lose your fuckin' marbles with Hemispheres. I listened to that album multiple times every day for around 5 months when I first discovered it and it still gets a ton of spins from me. Although don't take my word for it, go! Go experience it's awesomeness.

Also, even the album cover, which I used to hate, is really freaking cool because it parallels the lyrical themes of not just the title piece, but the other lyrics on the album. Just fucking YES

Spoiler: show
It's really fucking good. I still prefer 2112 though.

The Gathering - if_then_else

I've been kind of obsessed with this album lately. Creative and interesting rock with soothing vocals is a good way to sum it up.

Execration - Odes of the Occult

One of those bands that thread a fine line between black and death metal. Still no signs of aging, this.

Lost Horizon — Sworn In the Metal Wind

The production on this album is one of the best in power metal...everything is audible even the damn bass, that's rare in euro power metal.

Gloryhammer — Universe on Fire

Wish there was more metal like this, metal mixed with 80s synths

Someone else actually likes that song? The chorus is ridiculously catchy.

Marduk - Darkness Breeds Immortality

Thanks to the guy in the recs thread that pointed me towards early Marduk.

Hobb's Angel of Death "Heaven Bled" - I gotta say 2016 is looking to be a great year for thrash metal. This is one more example of that. Glad to see them back with a new album.

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

My fucking ridiculous ass state finally dipped below 70 degrees today. Know what that means? TULL SEASON BITCHES. In all seriousness, great stuff right here. The fact that this bad boy consists of a 43 minute track that doesn't lose its strength throughout its running time is a feat in and of itself. The really charming sections are my favorite, the keyboard work accompanied by Ian's brilliantly odd strumming is such a treat. I also love how this is meant to almost parody the other stuff prog bands were doing at the time. The Childhood Heroes section is one of the best sections of softer prog rock ever conceived. THAT should have been the single rather than the opening verses.

I prefer Furioso but both Pavor albums are of high quality. Seems like they'll never release anything again, though.

Titaan - Kadingir

Odd release. Black metal with lots of interludes. I like it but I feel like it will take another album to really hone in what he's trying to do.
