Fallujah - Allure

First listen of The Flesh Prevails. There is so much going on. I am getting into it but it will really take several spins to fully grasp it. Allure is a pretty tight instrumental song though.

Iced Earth - Disciples of the Lie

This is a phenomenally awful song, it distills the "Schaffer triplet riff" so far that the riff is gone and only the triplets remain. Riffs are supposed to have more than one chord and some sort of melodic pattern that people remember. Bonus demerits for Matt Barlow flirting with mallcore vocals.

Opeth - Moon Above, Sun Below

Listening to a Pale Communion stream. Didn't bother buying Heritage, probably won't buy this one either.

NP: Frightmare [Bringing Back the Bloodshed, 2006] - 3. Friday the 13th (Part 2) (01:50/05:10) {224 kbp/s}
Nice beefy slab of death/thrash/grind. Better than I expected it to be

Rob Rock - Satan's Playground, off Garden of Chaos

Blazing trad metal with vocals straight from the Conklin School of Hammy, Awesome Wailing. Delightful stuff.

Question - Doomed Passages (Album)

A few songs in and this is pretty decent old school death metal from Mexico. I was about to write them off because of the lack of solos but then there was a scorcher on tack 3. Anyway, not the greatest but it may grow on me.

Paradise Lost - True Belief

Perfect music for miserable weather. Greg's expressive guitar work and Nick's desperate vocal style at the time were a perfect match.

Unisonic - You and I

Their new album Light of Dawn completely exceeded my expectations. I was expecting another milquetoast, bland, commercial record like their debut but this is actually some pretty great power metal. Michael Kiske has got his high range back and sounds like a metal singer again (his voice has noticeable wear from age though), and they actually wrote a GOOD ballad!

"Unisonic" still sounds like the name some manufacturer of cheap DACs for boom boxes or something though. Horrible band name.

Finally some love for this album from a regular user. This album far surpasses the debut in terms of it being more metal and just better songs. This album is getting regular playing time here. I think Kiske sounds really good here.

Arcturus - The Bodkin & the Quietus

This album never ceases to amaze me. This song and the guitar sound in the beginning is so badass. Carl August Tideman is not a name that is thrown around when talking about great guitarists but he is fucking amazing.

Unisonic - Your Time Has Come

Even though I hardly ever listen to black metal anymore, I still sometimes listen to Arcturus' Aspera Hiems Symfonia, perhaps for the reason many black metal diehards seem to dislike it--the guitar work is not really black metal at all, more like '80s pre-Helloween power metal with a dose of blackened atmospherics. And Carl August Tidemann is indeed an awesome guitarist, it's too bad his power metal project Tritonus never really got off the ground.

Book of black Earth - Antarctica

I don't see why this album gets pooped on as much as it does in the reviews. I may hold a bit of bias in favor of the controversial "blackened deathcore" genre given the several threads I tried to start on here, but The Cold Testament is a solid album, especially in comparison of their first two releases, it's definitely my favorite.

He is!

Funeral Spring from (1995) Sentenced - Amok (Victor Entertainment CD Version).
Not really my kind of metal. I was just intrigued by the (1994) Amorphis - Tales From The Thousand Lakes comparision.

Weird, but the bonus track is the best track on the record. Dark Passion Play isn't that great otherwise...

Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time

Bought SIT recently and I'm reminding myself why Maiden is my favorite band. I wonder what it must've been like to hear something this tight, advanced and complex in the late 80s. Simply iconoclastic...a foundation in itself.

Gargoyle - Halleluyah

That brief section with the bass leading and the rest of the instruments backing gets me every time. It blows the majority of other thrash bands out of the water.

I dunno, I really enjoy this album. Obviously not their best, but I think it's damn good for what it is. I do understand why it gets a bad rep though.

I love Insineratehymn. Apocalyptic Fear is a badass song. It's nothing compared to its predecessors but it's still a good album.. And on the note of you listening to it, so was I, I had the album in my car all last week!

Bow down to one of the best death metal acts in the entire world. Nothing fucking compares to this band.

I loved it when it came out. I thought, and still think that it's Maiden's best album. It caught a lot of flack in the press because of the use of guitar synths. I guess the so called "metal press" back then wanted to start a controversy that wasn't there because the fans loved it.

Sodom - Tired and Red

Loved it when it came out, love it still. As with the Maiden album referenced above, this album will always be a classic.

Mourn in Silence - Winter's Breath

I'm getting a bit of a Machinae Supremacy vibe from the guitars, despite the fact that they play different subgenres. Interesting.

Din of Awakening/Full Demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSScuyLh96M

Good fucking Lord. This is downright terrifying! "Haunting Metaphysical Black Metal", fuck yes. Certain parts of the demo drag on but I think the intro to the opening song is viciously haunting. It's weirdly psychedelic and just sounds like a dying animal. This demo is also inspired/based on the film "Begotten" which is even more fucked up.
