Dragged into Sunlight - I Aurora

I saw the band live a few days ago, and like their studio material, it's not unlike being sonically beaten to death.

Favourite track from that album, though your comparisons strike me as slightly odd, especially with this epic number, as it leans well into much more orthodox territory, with a twist of their own. Considering this also contains a fair amount more variation and huge atmosphere. Don't really see these two in their music at all... Consolamentum is a stellar album however.

Ataraxy - Under Veiled Skies

The crushing chord section after the opening rules hard. This album also has moments of what I perceive to be some Paradise Lost homage, circa Gothic era in the melodies used. Fantastic fucking death metal.

Drudkh - False Dawn.

I didn't get into this band until very recently, but holy shit they're good.

Maniac Butcher - Desatero Krutých Zim Přežitých V Teple žhnoucí Záře Slávy Minulé

I bought this a while ago without ever having heard of them before. Pretty good war black metal. Reminds me of Impiety, only they are more on the black metal side of things. And yes, all the song titles are that long. Czech is an odd language.

God Dethroned - "Under the Sign of the Iron Cross"

This is one of those rare instances where Liquid Metal introduced me to something good. Heard it a few days ago, now listening again and going to explore them more on youtube. (Any song or album recommendations?) I like how the drums, guitars and vocals all combine into this rumbling, thundering sound - I bet this would be amazing live. Not so sure about the clean vocals, but I'll keep listening.

Katatonia - Gateways of Bereavement

Those agonizing screams Jonas Renske could pull off back his prime were amazing. I love the intensity he used to possess in his voice.

They were playing 'Brave' live as recently as like two years ago, he still sounds really great!

NP: Lord Foul - I Burn For You

Basically my introduction to black metal was Nargaroth's cover of this. Still one of my favorites and really the whole demo is good too.

Manilla Road - Dreams of Eschaton (live 2004)

One of the coolest videos around, I think this was the one that really got me started on the 'Road. Shark and Hellroadie provide a killer combo on one of the best songs ever.

Alice In Chains - Breath on a Window

Feels like true AIC right here. Despite the somewhat accessible overtones, I can hear undercurrents of Dirt, Sap, and Jar Of Flies. Jerry's still driving this boat.

Pharaoh - Cover Your Eyes and Pray

Moving epic of a song...gives me the feeling of a great ordeal. Great, slow-burning melodies.

Beyond Terror Beyond Grace - Dusk

An entirely blind purchase; seems reasonable so far; sounds like Blut Aus Nord trying their hand at death-metal.

I've tried them out a few times and couldn't really get into it. Perhaps I should try again. Any good recs as to where to start with them?

Now listening to Aftershock - Through the Looking Glass. I'm not all that into metalcore these days, but man this album kicks all kinds of ass. There are some nice Swedish DM undertones on the riffing, frantic, throaty vocals and an excellent balance between heaviness and atmosphere. I think this may be my next review.

Anaal Nathrakh - Atavism

I cannot get enough of these guys, every song is like a shot of adrenaline.

War Master - Pyramids of the Necropolis

Probably in my top 3 favorite active bands. Obvious Bolt Thrower influence, yes, but there is a heavy crust thing going on as well that gives this album a shit-ton of momentum. The vocals are great too, very Ross Dolan-esque. Get smacked in the dick with heavy riffs.

Heaven & Hell - Follow the Tears

Crushing set of doom riffs from lord Iommi accompanied by thick bass of Geezer and mighty voice of Dio (RIP).

Motley Crue - Wild Side

I saw them last weekend in Atlantic City. Been a fan of them for 30 or so years, and saw them for the first time. I thought I would be disappointed. They blew the roof off of that place. I was very impressed. So I've been on a Motley Crue kick.

Weeping Silence - Darkness in My Heart

Nokturnal Mortum - Valkyrie.

It's strange. In my prejudice, I always assumed Nokturnal Mortum was a low-budget Casio keyboard BM band in the vein of early Graveland. Turns out they make extremely mature prog rock-influenced black metal that totally obliterates 99% of the metal out there.

Their last two albums are their best works, very melodic but intense as hell, and with immaculate songwriting. If you can't get into this or this, they may just not be for you.

Thin Lizzy - Johnny

Pure magic.

I'll have to check them out. I'm working on a novel with a dark, tragic atmosphere and this sounds like perfect writing music (gothic? check. and also doom? double check. female vocalist? check!)

NP: Tengger Cavalry - Sunesu Cavalry

I haven't listened to these guys in..years, so this is my first listen to this album. Man, they have become epic. I love Mongolian fiddle and throat-singing anyway, and they mix it perfectly with metal. The folk influence is a lot more evident in the guitars than I remember in the older Tengger Cavalry stuff I heard, too.

Sounds good, let me know what ya think. The Longest Night is also a good album by them, especially if you're more into the 80s style of heavy metal.

Children of Bodom - Their Days are Numbered

Pretty damn good, all things considered.

Trying to give a fair chance to Enmity's illuminations but I still find it worthless, empty nonsensical wannabe brutal stuff. My god, the riffs are totally laughable and the production is just a bad joke.

Just listen to Internal Suffering or Cytotoxin instead.

Anyways, on topic, the new Evile. On par for the course, surprisingly consistant.
