Sigh - The Last Elegy

I'm not sure this song, why describe as doom/symphonic metal in other site(s).

This song very good indeed.

Fatima Hill - Oriel Window

I don't listen to this nearly as much as I should. The solos in this song are beautiful.

Lucifer's Child - Wiccan

Having a sincere belief that Greece has the best scene in the world right now, I'm shocked I missed this album last year. It's like a perfect halfway point between Rotting Christ and Transcending Bizarre. Groovy, fun black metal.

Twisted Tower Dire - Fortress

Possibly my favorite track off the album? To my ears the album ends up sounding appropriately under produced. Essential Power/Righteous Metal.

Demigod - The Forlorn

Classic '90s Finnish death metal. The '90s was truly an awesome time for death metal. And this is a good example of it.

Bodysnatch - Insights of a Rotten Theatre

This is quite good, and a very unusual listen. It's definitely brutal death metal, but with a solid helping of grooves and slams, to the point where you could possibly classify this as brutal death/groove metal. Don't let that put you off, though, because you'll be banging your head to the interesting slam riffs on offer, even if they're not exactly unique. It takes a couple of listens for this to grow on you, but persevere and you'll learn to really love it like I am.

And again. Acoustic guitars, crazy solos and those screams! I'm sold!

Jag Panzer - Mechanized Warfare

Oh man, the opening riff of "Take To The Sky" is pure genius. Chris Broderick did a damn fine job with the lead work.

Katastrof - Screams of Silence

Melodic death metal from Israel.
I've just finished listening to Amon Amarth's discography and Katastrof's album is a great continuation. :headbang:

Machine Head - The Blackening

I thought that something shit would snap me out of my addiction towards April Rain. Sadly, this laughable thing just makes me want to go listen to that for like, the 8th time in two days.

Only OLD Machine Head (first 2 albums) is real.

As a kid I remember really being into Machine Head because of their name. I used to love the track “Bulldozer" lol. I also really liked “Imperium” for a while when it came out now that I remember. I think it was those fuckin harmonics man.
First album is pretty sweet at times. Good groove.

Same man. I usually get a bit bored with albums like Fas and all of this really technical modern bm stuff (not because it’s bad, I’m just not really into it as of now). Si Monumentum kind of has the best balance of trad and modern bm in their discography, to me, and it’s also important to point out that it influenced a lot.

Raspberry Bulbs - Tissue in the Bloodstream
LIVE on My Castle of Quiet, 7.15.2011 (2011)
:grr:
What a fucking great band man, jeez. Such a good balance of punk and bm catchiness. Great lyrics too.
Got their Nature Tries Again (LP) in the mail this morning actually, will be posting some pics pretty soon ;)

I can digest all Blut aus Nord but not Deathspell Omega.

Dream Theater - The Root of All Evil

Dark, melancholy and hooky, and I love the keys in the intro and outro - so somber. I've always enjoyed Octavarium, just has a kind of pull and charm to it.

Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk

Love at first listen. It reminds me of Nemesis Divina because of the epicness of the songs and the polished production, even though this one has a lot of symphonic elements.

I used to really worship that album, i don't really get why i'm so cold towards it now.. I must give it a spin!

Also i share the love for Deathspell, Peste Noire and Blut. French metal c'est la guerre! ..Well, sometimes! :)

Running Wild - Blown to kingdom come

It takes a huge dose of talent and charisma to make sound so epic such standard metal riffs, i love it more than is healthy!

Give it another go. There's something about it that makes me come back to it over and over again. Listening to "Encorcelled By Khaos" right now, and it's just such a masterful composition. The only problem (and it's not really a problem for me personally, as I'm not a big fan of black metal vocals) with this album is that Ihsahn is nowhere to be found. He's way in the background.

Atheist - Piece Of Time

It's been much too long since I listened to Atheist. Sometimes I tend to forget that Roger Patterson didn't actually play on Unquestionable Presence (though he did contribute heavily to the writing), and that PoT is the only Atheist record he actually played on. Such an incredible talent taken way too soon. But we'll always have Piece Of Fucking Time.

Not a bad album but a little too long for my liking. Fas... and Paracletus were better explored and less bloated. :)

The Blackening is surprisingly good for Machine Head. I didn't expect to enjoy it but there you go. I would call it a fluke rather than a return to form, as the follow-up's were disappointing again.

SYL is one band that I have never been able to get into, and certainly not for a lack of trying. I find the tongue-in-cheek attitude supremely unappealing in context, and it isn't really "industrial" in the common sense, if at all.

Alien is far and away their crowning achievement to my ears, and City would be if it wasn't for the cover track that doesn't fit at all. Strapping Young Lad are certainly not a band for everyone, but I do enjoy them, and I usually play Alien over everything else. :)

Delain - April Rain

Giving this a try from Napalm_Satan's review. I'm usually a death metal guy 51% of the time, and a melodic/symphonic female-fronted pop metal guy 0% of the time, but hey, this is alright! I like her voice and the music is oddly captivating, even though the simplicity should make me run away. Perhaps nothing I would buy (maybe?) but certainly entertaining.

I've been told that early Machine Head was good, so I listened to Burn My Eyes and hated every second of that grating pile of slop. That must be what people think Pantera sounds like. Then I was told that newer Machine Head was good, so I listened to The Locust and hated every second of that boring pile of nothingness. They even covered The Sentinel and Robbbbbb Flynnnnnn had the gall to mispronounce "Sentinel" in the chorus just like Rob Halford does. No. Motherfucker you are not qualified to ever attempt to emulate somebody who actually has talent. Basically Machine Head is just terrible all around.

Ningen Isu - Futtou Suru Uchuu
Of the four albums I know, I listen to Shigan Raisan the least, but it's pretty universally beloved so I'm trying to change that. It's uh, it's okay so far. It's not grabbing me like Burai Houjou or Mandoro did, and it's still not growing on me quite as strongly as Kaijin Nijuu Mensou did, so it looks like it's gonna have to stay my least favorite for now until I hear the new one and see where that ranks. I like how well they channel Sabbath and how they keep everything much more energetic than it has any right to be, and the riffs and solos are still great, just for some reason this album never really blew me away like the others eventually did.

The irony here is nigh-suffocating.

And Machine Head's debut, while supremely unbalanced, has at least one or two high points that are better than anything Pantera ever did.

Rotting Christ - Κατά Τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού

For some reason I feel like this band has transcended their origins, but in the process have become inaccessible to the gaseous mind-womb from whence I conjecture. Their music is international, Earthly, and unique. I think whatever is putting me off somehow has to do with the production — too clear and full-on for my pitiful ears. Rotting Christ has certainly become a greater band, but I prefer Non Serviam and Triarchy of the Lost Lovers to their more recent outputs. I am still somewhat interested in hearing their new album later this year, though.

Defend/Avenge- Anthrax.

So far one of the better tracks off their mostly disappointing new album. Hinges mostly on slow chug riffs, as does much of this album, but this song does it the best so far. Also the vocals have some fun attitude and the solos ain't half bad. Where's this energy and aggression on the rest of the album?!

Akercocke - Man Without Faith Or Trust
Akercocke - The Dark Inside

Been spinning "Antichrist" since I went to work and continued on even as I got home. Why I'm only picking up on this band now is a mystery to me. They certainly added innovation to the basic death/black metal template. "The Dark Inside" even has industrial beats on it which doesn't sound too forced fit into the song. At another point in the song, the band blasts its way out of the speakers like a rampaging bull hellbent on doing damage.

I only have two Akercocke titles in my collection but after listening to this album, I'm looking towards exploring more of their music.

Yup. One of the worst bands I've ever heard. Total shit.

Avantasia - Seduction of Decay

The irony here is nigh-suffocating.

And Machine Head's debut, while supremely unbalanced, has at least one or two high points that are better than anything Pantera ever did.

There's no irony there that I see. Avantasia's pretty great. Complete 180 from the groove of Machine Head too with actual good guitars and vocals...if I were saying something like Soulfly I'd definitely get it more.
