Omnihility - Unsummoned

If there is a band with faster guitar riffs than this I've yet to find it.

Saxon - Denim and Leather

Second consecutive time listening to this album front to back. Just so awesome, and I think I'll end the night on this.

Lethal: Programmed

Excellent US power/progressive metal, similar to early Queensryche.

Not a huge fan of Dying Fetus or Defeated Sanity's Psalms... album, but the other three are really good. I got Enslaved by Fear not too long ago, actually, and it's growing on me. I was a bit upset with the long, slower penultimate track but after hearing it again, I don't mind it.

Ketha - 2nd Sight

I still believe III-ia is the superior album from these Polish blokes, but this one is still very worthy of listens. Plenty of hooks and interesting riffs everywhere.

ENSLAVED - Singular... Oops, now it's Night Sight.

Such an amazing mix of black metal elements in a proggy framework. Just awesome.

Well, that's pretty cool, most definitely. Catchy, melodic, muscular, varied..... It has it all. Don't know what to think about those harsh vocals though. They aren't bad at all, but I could do without them.....

I'm usually not a fan of harsh vocals mixed in with music that otherwise doesn't call for them, but I don't know. These guys just click with me.

I love that album.

Helloween - The Departed

In my recent listenings in the last week or two, I've come to the conclusion that Andi Deris is one of the top five or six metal singers currently working today. Damn is he good. He can literally do anything, from expressive emotional ballads to harsh metal tunes to weird, crooning experimental stuff, and it all sounds good. Plus he has a huge, larger than life voice with a ton of charisma - he's just amazing and new Helloween is easily better than their 80s stuff. Can't agree with anyone who says otherwise.

Yeah, I never understood why Deris-era Helloween got as much flak as it does. He's a fantastic vocalist, and they released one of their best albums (Gambling With the Devil) with him at the front.

Synful Ira - Behind the Suspect

Nothing too groundbreaking here. Just a nice little poppy gothic metal outfit.

I'm convinced that Keepers III is the best one of all of them now. That one has grown on me a ton lately. Just an insta-classic.

The funniest thing to me is when people say it doesn't hold true to the spirit of the original Keeper albums, which had epic length songs, a ballad or two, fast songs with catchy choruses, comedic songs and some anthemic concert songs...all things that Keepers III has, along with the typical wit and wry humor they had back in the 80s too. So what's the difference? No Kai Hansen and no Michael Kiske. Big deal.

People who shit on Deris era Helloween with no better reason than Hansen and/or Kiske being out of the band should have their testicles chopped off.

Blind Guardian - Ride into Obsession, off At the Edge of Time

One of the better tracks from this record (which I like a lot, though not as much as when I bought it).
