Gorguts - Obscura

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I've ever listened to this album, each time being months apart, so my evolved tastes each have a shot at it. I still can't really say I like it or dislike it. It sounds very... mechanical. It reminds me of an oil foundry or something very machined. I can't really explain it beyond that. Always an interesting listen, though; I guess that's what keeps me coming back, even if I might not like it.

Napalm Death - On The Brink of Extinction

Funny thing is, there are a couple groove riffs in there that I should hate, but somehow they manage to make them not suck. I'm guessing Schmier's awesome vocals make up for them.

Godflesh: "Like Rats"
Hooray Streetcleaner.

Yeah, like in "Inner Indulgence," but I don't mind some groove, so it's okay for me. :) The whole album is really good, and it's one of their best. I hope their next one will be just as good.

Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane

Downloaded this one. Seeing what the fuss is all about, I suppose.

I'd argue The Antichrist is superior to D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N., but agreed that it is surprisingly good for a 26 year-old thrash band.

Godflesh: "Christbait Rising"
You know, I hear this... and I realize that Godflesh is terribly overrated. Influential, sure, but there's a band that does this stuff better:

P.H.O.B.O.S.: "Gregarious"
Here we go. THIS is industrial doom done right.

Yeah, The Antichrist is better, but this one can hold its own.

Huge, monolithic riffs grinding along at a - pardon me - Tectonic pace with clanging machine-like percussion. The vocals are quite fitting, as well.

It's one of the few cases I've heard where the instrumentals themselves sound genuinely pissed off. I really should write a review for the Tectonics... and get Anoedipal while I'm at it. Bottom line: highly recommended. I'm surprised this band hasn't gotten more underground attention.

P.H.O.B.O.S.: "Engulfed in Subduction"

Nice fucking Maiden worship. Seriously, this is damn good. Check it out if you miss 80s Maiden at all.

I gave them a listen last night and yeah, now I'm completely interested. Thanks for pointing them out, mate. I've got to get their two albums now.
