Rocka Rollas - Riding the Metal Storm, off Conquer

I love how lighthearted yet powerful this is. The vocals are young, hungry and full of conviction, and the instrumentation is top notch. I can understand why the dude behind this is so appreciated here.

Alice in Chains - Nothin' Song

One of the more bizarre, depressive tracks on the album...pure melancholy and drug-induced insanity.

I like Candlemass with my Easter dinner.

Sargeist - Twilight Breath of Satan

I love Sargeist's guitar tone, and it works really well on this one - it's got a real tumbling, icy majesty to it which I love in black metal.

Goatpenis is actually a pretty solid band for the style, even if the name is silly as hell.

Order of Orias - Inverse

black metal from Australia? why yes please! this country has a never ending supply of quality black and death metal.

Now listening to Artillery - Bombfood. Seriously one of the coolest and catchiest thrash songs.

ABBA - I'm a Marionette

This is way more screechy and abrasive than a dance song has the right to be.

I'm right now listening to Beethoven's 9th Symphony for the first time. The first movement, to be precise. I have never been so enraptured by classical music before. This is a game changer.

I had meant to check out the Latvala Bros album ever since I first heard the sexy guitar work on No Anesthesia, but never got around to it.

Scorpions - This Is My Song

Pure proto-Maiden melodic metal class.

Blut Aus Nord - Epitome XVII

Cosmosophy has grown on me immensely, with it's serpentine nature. The way the good to great tracks unfold with those vast, beautifully haunting arcane melodies is glorious, closing them out with a triumphant, regal nature.

Kataplexis

I kinda wish the album was mixed a bit more organic sounding. the guitars are too.. digifuzzy.

Great band! I love when good metal bands have ridiculous names. It erases the air of a band taking themselves too seriously, which with this type of music, happens often. Another good example of this is Satan's Almighty Penis. Awesome band.

NP: Shyy - The White Sheet Faces The Dark Light

In my opinion one of the best songs from the whole 'blackgaze' thing. It's not going to win over anyone who already doesn't like these types of bands, but if you happen to enjoy the style this song is wonderful. Also the last half breaks into an almost gothic-rock tinged section which is happening as I type this. Overall this is such a great tune.

Sleep - Holy Mountain

The only album I like by them. Dopesmoker is boring and Jerusalem is, well, Dopesmoker.

if you ignore all the shitty Blasphemy clones(90% of warmetal bands sadly) it's a pretty good style when you want to have your eardrums bombarded

yeah, the dudes of Goatpenis seems dead serious though, they probably really thought it was kult and a good idea for a name

Darkspace - Dark 1.1

Sounds less ethereal than Darkspace III, which is the album which helped me discover the band, but nonetheless sounds really cool - hopefully it'll build up and become more cosmic as the album goes on.

Rattenfänger - Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum

Ukrainian death metal, new band but with experienced members from well-known bands like Drudkh, Astrofaes etc.
Surprisingly quite listenable stuff.

Nickelback - This Is How You Remind Me.

Truely a noteworthy and monumental attempt at evoking unorthodox and bone-chilling atmosphere that would leave Blut Aus Nord horrified and in tears.

I mean come on now, anything that reminds me of my ex-gf has GOT to be horrifying!

Tiamat - Thunder & Lightning

This is how you make catchy and emotive songs while still retaining excellent songwriting. Take that Nickelback.

In all seriousness, I love this album. I wasn't joking.
