Deathspell Omega: Drought. Great album, similar to Parcletus in sound, love the hints of melody subsumed by mild chaos.

When do we get more DSO?

I only listen to the "classic" Deathspell Omega once in a while but should give a chance to the last material.

Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer from (2005) Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies.
I fucking enjoy this album!

You've haven't heard Drought? Get on that right away, man. It kicks ass.

NP: Manilla Road- Tree of Life

Mellow and heavy as fuck at the same time. One thing Mark does best is atmosphere.

Been a while since I listened to this band. They embody a perfect mix of melody and death metal, while still retaining their death metal cred.

Yeah, very good band.

NP: Putrevore - Macabre Kingdom

By far my favorite of all Rogga's bands. Shit is so brutal

Hic Iacet - Cosmic Trance Into the Void

Super good occult death/black metal. Oozing with atmosphere but also has some cool riffs.

Exceptional album. It's taken over 10 years, but I've finally gotten into Swans thanks to this LP.

Why not write the name of the album for the rest of us?

I just did (while drunk) and I like what I heard.

Who's Gonna Save My Soul from (2008) Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple.
AMAZING vocals!

Enslaved - Paths to Vanir

Nice riff and keyboards - pretty cool proggy track.

Nightwish - Alpenglow

The people saying this album will be a grower sound right to me. I think it'll take a few more listens to really get into the album the way it wants me to.

Stomping force of death metal. Has a bit of an epic quality to it. :headbang:

Keres - Eternal Wake

Man I love these guys. The only things that could make this pass for a black metal release are the vocals and poor production.

Rhapsody- Power of the Dragonflame

A highly enjoyable album! I'm a fan of over the top, hyperbolic power metal so it suits me a lot.

Atophy - Violent by Nature

Decent thrash; better than I expected. Like a cross between Bay Area and German thrash. Don't like the cover art though lol.

Atrophy was always pretty hit or miss to me. Like the album in question has the title track and "Puppies and Friends", but the rest of it is really pedestrian. They were always a pretty middle of the road, third tier thrash band who would occasionally fluke out a good song or two, but really only worth listening to if you're a big fan of the genre and are just sort of randomly checking stuff out hoping to find a gem. Reminds me of Viking in that regard.

Yeah, on first listen I'd say maybe 3 pretty good/great tracks, and the rest is average. However, I do like that the vocals are more close to the raspy German style instead of the shrieky Anthrax / Vio-Lence type that I usually cannot stand.

Nerlich - Substantial Alteration

Pretty solid death metal. They're slightly technical too in their style but fortunately don't fall prey to the wankfest tech-death is usually plagued with.

Amazing extreme symphonic black metal . A unique band/album in the brazilian scenery but a bit underrated by the public imo .

Infernal Death - Immortal Race & Psychotic Thoughts

This is from their debut Call to War. Wow...formed in 1989 and only released three demos until now. I saw on their Facebook page that they recently did their first show in 22 years. That's insane. Anyway, some pretty straight forward death metal. I'm digging it. Nothing amazing but enjoyable.

Archgoat - The Apocalyptic Triumphator

Riffs and vocal patterns seem influenced by 'Magnificent Glorification of Lucifer' era Inquisition, unless I am reading too much into it.

Edit: I am enjoying this album a lot! Great vocals as usual, simple but effective compositions, good production.

That's WAY better than (2009) Immortal - All Shall Fall!

Wolf - At the Graveyard

They never topped this one. One of the best 2000s heavy metal albums...riffs are godlike.

Arcturus - Kinetic. This is perfect a/v metal. The production can't be better for what they strived for. I just hope Arcturian won't sound like the YT video released.

Finally got round to buying 'Venture' and just as they have decided to call it a day as well. Great band and a great final album.

Sadus - Sadus Attacks (from DTP demo, 1986)

Very German sounding thrash from Sadus' first demo. The remaster from 2003 even makes it sound close to an old German thrash LP, tho I wish Digiorgio's bass was louder

Tad Morose - Riding the Beast

I can enjoy this and the albums before and after it any time. Basically modern classics in my book. They have a new one coming out sometime, wonder if it'll be any better than their lame last album.

Yeah all bets are really leaning towards no. I might just have to permanently pretend Shades of Art was the Tad Morose comeback like I've been joking about for years now.

Nocternity - Harps of the Ancient Temples

Production is much better than Onyx but the music is much more simplistic and drone-y. This track anyway, still working my way through the album.

My Dying Bride - Within The Presence of Absence

I've been on a huge MDB kick lately. I'd always loved Like Gods of the Sun but hadn't really gotten too hooked on their other albums until more recently. Can't believe it took me this long, considering I've owned LGotS for about 10 years now.

Arrayan Path - Clepsydra

I really hate the stop-start bit in the middle of the verse. It's like the song trips over its shoelaces at a full run and falls over on its face. Way to kill the momentum, guys.

Xerxes - Sacrificed Life

First time hearing their demo. Thinking I'm digging this more than the full lengths, a little more metallic edge but still their trademark medieval prog thing going.

Pungent Stench - For God Your Soul... for Me Your Flesh

I actually don't like this version of the album, the artwork rules obviously [I have this long sleeve shirt too] but the audio is all wrong, I'm just used to the other version :|
It must be the tape version I have and the reissued/re-recorded CD or something

Autopsy - Acts of the Unspeakable

I bought the Autopsy DVD over the weekend, and it prompted me to check out pretty much their whole discography. This record doesn't have the hooks or vibe of either Severed Survival or Mental Funeral, but it doesn't sound like anyone other than Autopsy either. It's funny, for bands looking to sound "old school", there's no reason they couldn't try to ape this record as much as any other Autopsy. The *sound* is there, and even the filthy attitude -- it's one of those times where I can be old and say "if this came out today, people would say it was classic".

Overkill - cold hard fact

Maybe their grooviest song ever, but I dig it...
