Bridear "Thread of the Light"

Yet another Japanese all-girl metal band. Pretty good too.

Analdicktion - "Whoreaphobia"

Finally decided to check out Analdicktion after seeing nothing but praise for them around the web. Can't really say I'm disappointed, because goddamn. Fast, energetic, reckless, and technical slam death with an above-average helping of technicality. Definitely worth looking into, if you like that sort of thing.

What's with japanese all-girl bands always being power metal anyway?

np:Fates Warning - Traveler In Time

So long since I listened to FW. Pretty good.

Not sure, must be something in the drinking water. :P I guess Galmet is an exception, being melodeath. There's a few non-metal (visual kei, actually) ones like Exist Trace, Ganglion, and Danger Gang.

NP: Cross Vein "Birth of Romance"
Female-fronted Japanese symphonic power metal. The vocals are shrill as fuck on this. I like this, but it took awhile for me to get used to. Most people would consider this ear-rape.

Angra - Awake from Darkness

Intense as fuck - a melodic maelstrom.

Orden Ogan "To the End"

Something not Japanese for once! (although I do own the Japanese pressing of this) Much better than their last album, which still hasn't grown on me. I keep telling myself it will, but maybe I'm just deluding myself?

ReVamp - Sweet Curse

This isn't really anything special, but it is very cool to hear Floor at work again.

Bathory - Mother Earth Father Thunder

While not my favourite era/albums from this legendary act, they are still rather rousing - and that raw, unpolished lead guitar tone is still so trademark Quorthon that it's impossible to resist it's charm.

Cirith Ungol - War Eternal

If this band had survived the music industry, who knows what could have been? Surely they would have gotten so much coke and bitches, selling out would have been just a matter of time.

(just kidding)

Satan - Time to Die

This is outragously, fantastically, unbelievably, extraordinarily good. Life Sentence will definitely be one of my albums of the year, at this rate.

German HC punk, much like Black Flag but heavier.

Hammerhead is one of those classic AmRep bands that never gets old.

Seraphim Slaughter: Scum Terror

pretty gnarly punky black metal. I kinda expected it to be rawer or dirtier if you know what I mean. Still very enjoyable.

Tukaaria - Raw To The Rapine

Great stuff! 21st century black metal done right. Unique but rooted in tradition, not something else dressed up as black metal, just black metal.

My album of the year so far and will probably stay that way unless Onmyo-Za releases a new album soon.

Helloween - Phantoms of Death

This song rules, as does the whole album. Helloween were on fire when they had Kai in the band.

ReVamp - Here's My Hell

Sounds better than on the first listen. The vocal melodies are really angular and weird...plus the choirs are as good as they were on After Forever's last two albums. Music is low-key but complex, with some nice instrumentation.

"Where Four Rivers Flow" -
Sky Burial

This reminds me more if Phillip Glass would play Dark Ambient music, than say Slint or Godspeed You, Black Emperor!. I'm very excited that they will be performing with Vestiges and Burning Ghats at a show a friend of mine and I have booked, and in a basement too- it will be epic(and I hate using that descriptor).

Thorns - The Pagan Winter

Damn Snorre is creative with his sound. He managed to make this (according to Fenriz) 100% death metal song into a prime example of his trademark industrial black metal. AWESOME

Damn great minds think alike:

Thorns ~ Thorns

One of the best BM releases of all time. The cold, mechanical atmosphere and the stellar riffs and songwriting make this one of my favorite albums ever. But it's still not getting me pumped for my microecon. Class in about 15 mins.

Pagan's Mind - Through Osiris' Eyes

Some of the first metal I ever heard...I think a lot of the reason it works is because of the STELLAR production; love those guitars and keyboard sounds. The songwriting is really cool too, spacey and fun.
