Suffocation - Abomination Reborn

In a tech death mood, which happens about once or twice per year. Pumped to see these guys at MDF.

1990 was a musical extension of the '80s. The '90s didn't really begin until late '91 or even '92.

Metal Church - Beyond the Black

The kick/tom stomp right before the vocals come in is just amazing.

Demilich - "Vanishing of Emptiness" - 20th Adversary of Emptiness

Good Satan....these songs sound so good. So bassy and heavy and gooey, while retaining their chaotic, echoing, grinding groove. I can see me listening to these on loop a lot. Makes me wish Demilich had stuck with it and released more material, who knows what they would have come up with. All I know is these songs are fucking superb and I wish there was more.

Such a fucking shame these guys had to break up, they had loads upon boatloads of potential to be a big band in the technical death metal scene. They're miles ahead of all the mindless blasty-blast bands that fill up the scene.

If I can ever find the EP, I'm totally picking it up. However, unless it's re-released, it seems to be almost impossible to find.

Meshuggah -- Shed

Refreshing, listening to them after a while. The music keeps unraveling in numerous ways, pure delight.

Yeah, Catch 33 is one of my favourites of any band. Really awesome music. I wish Meshuggah would do something like this again, but I think they are getting slightly past their best these days. :(

Binah - Torpid Blight of the Spirit

This is quickly becoming one of my top OSDM bands. I love the vocals and they riff it up with atmosphere, tasteful lead-work, and a commanding presence. Great band. This EP has me very excited for their next full-length. Plus, I'm clearly a sucker for the HM2 sound. ;)

Binah are really good, yeah. I haven't heard the EP (no vinyl player, curses!), but the album is one of the better old-school worshipping albums around. Your post has now gotten me in the mood for...

Binah - Hallucinating in Resurrecture

Such a great throwback to the earlier days of death metal. A lot of bands are doing it, but this album encapsulates how it should be done. I'm still not sold on the intro track, and probably never will be, but the rest of the album is a beast. Looking forward to any other full-lengths Binah produce.

They have an EP out too Mikey. Solid stuff again, and there's nothing wrong with the intro!

Yeah, I mentioned that I have no vinyl player for said EP, unfortunately. If I ever earn more money/have more space, I would certainly love to collect vinyl. :) I'll come steal some of yours, haha. :P

Acarus Sarcopt - "Osmium Heart" from Tarnation

With this album the band seems to have switched completely from black metal to a death metal sign. I was caught off guard and somewhat taken aback at first listen, but this album is really growing on me.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Fire & Ice

This is a good album, but it just isn't as memorable as the earlier stuff. If it were shorter, I'd probably listen to it a lot more often.

I'm just finishing a back-to-back run of Dead Winter Dead and The Wake of Magellan, and this really cements how much I love this band. I'm in the minority preferring the Zak Stevens era, but I think this is when they really hit their stride. I'm excited to see them next year at Wacken, and pretty curious about the set as well.

Whoa, that's weird. I just did that with those two albums the other night. They get a lot of hate but I love both of those albums.

That is strange! I think next time, I might throw Handful of Rain in first because those three albums feel like a trilogy to me.

They do get a lot of hate, but I think it's unfounded. I saw Circle II Circle do The Wake of Magellan at Wacken and it was amazing, so that album will always be pretty special to me. DWD isn't quite as good, but it still has a lot of really killer tracks. Handful of rain is even better than those two IMO.

That song is so good! I don't understand how humans can write something like that "chorus part" with the keyboards. So simple, but it awakenes such an emotional response from me.

Metal Church off the album Metal Church...by Metal Church. Kick-ass solo, fearsome stomping mid-pace riffage, and stellar drumming.

Random text received merely as the following :

Leichengott - Cyrograf

I assume it is a band and thus access MA and type in the band name, certainly it was... thus I proceed to follow the next step... youtube. Full album hosted there and give this a listen. Pretty damned good if I don't mind saying so.

So now I come here to share the sentiments and the link... give it a listen, personally I am surprised I never heard of this band before.

That album is possibly my favourite black metal album of all time! It may be "light" because they are not afraid to be catchy; incorporating involved melodies and a very tight drum performance.

EDIT: Forgot the NP!

Taake - Hordalands doedskvad 7

First half is catchy and dynamic, but the last few minutes are just epic black metal. It reminds me of the end of Gorgoroth's Måneskyggens slave from their 1st album.

Soror Dolorosa-Sound & Death

Nice gothic rock/post-punk, this song is specially interesting but the album in general is a great improvement from the debut, which was good too.

Not my kind of Black Metal I guess.

Eos from (2011) Ulver - The Norwegian National Opera DVD.
We saw Ulver at Hellfest but this sounds way more majestic and solemne.

Soulburn - Absinthesis

I can't get over how good the new Soulburn is. Ancient black/death worship that far exceeds the more recent Asphyx related projects.

Horrendous - Nepenthe

Finally bought the new Horrendous record today, and it's very good. Unique though their début was, this steps up a gear into outright fascinating territory. The leads are great, the atmosphere is immaculate, and there are some really interesting riffs scattered around. It's going to take a fair few listens to sink in though; not quite a one-listen-impact by any stretch - an album which takes work to listen to.

Znöwhite - Do or Die

Gotta be honest, I dig their speed metal more than Act of God. That's a good record, but man, the energy and RIFFS! of their demos/EPs is just fantastic.

Execration - Morbid Dimensions

As much as I like the osdm worship, its very impressive to see bands carving a niche for themselves and that's exactly what Execration(along with a handful of other death metal bands) are doing.

NP: Mekong Delta - The Final Deluge

Have to say as much as I love this album I can never stand Keil's vocals. Only downfall of this album or early era Mekong Delta imo. Sometimes find if I listen a couple times over I end up able to tune him out better though lol

It really is! But Summoning the Rain is probably my favourite on the album. I can daydream to that album for ages. I don't often get very specific seasonal attachments to albums, but with this one I definitely do. For me because of the more "springy" feel of Summoning the Rain the album ends up suiting both that chilled, autumn rain as the weather shifts toward snowfall as well as that spring rain when you can just smell everything coming back to life. This album was definitely Roman's masterpiece!

I have been ripping (1999) Taake - Nattestid Ser Porten Vid and (2002) Taake - Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik to Mp3@320 to give them another proper listen.

Ill Niño - Revolution Revolución

Decided to go on a nostalgia trip and listen to something I haven't heard for many, many years. I'm surprisingly enjoying it actually. It doesn't have any good riffs, but it does have a kind of charm and passion/energy that most of its other nu-metal peers lack.
