Apocalyptica - Seemann (feat. Nina Hagen)

I'm loving these guest vocals/lyrics:

"Komm in mein Boot
Die Sehnsucht wird der Steuermann
Komm in mein Boot
Der beste Seemann war doch ich"

^That's a Rammstein cover. Noice song, I remember it fondly.

Type O Negative - Burnt Flowers Fallen

I don't remember any band that touched me as TON does to me right now. A bunch of stuff became very unfortunate for me lately and TON just make me pay less attention to those things.

Oh really? I'll give the original a listen then. Cheers!

Rammstein - Seemann

Edit: Not bad! There's aspects that I prefer in the original, particularly a couple vocal moments here and there.

There is a reason I've been listening to World Coming Down pretty much every day. Only it makes me wallow in the darkness and shed some light on it rather than make me forget it. A brilliant band.

Rammstein - Du hast

Now that I pay more attention to the lyrics, there's a lot of double meanings going on here: "Du hast" vs. "Du hasst," and more interestingly, the altering of the phrase "Willst du bis der tod euch scheidet..." into "Willst du bis zum tod der scheide..." Lots of marital angst going on here :-P

Dark At Dawn - The Alliance, off Dark At Dawn

I don't think any of the other albums had songs as intense as these. Interesting.

Just as captivating as the first time I heard it. I still can't decide if I like it or not, but it's captivating.

Rammstein have a few cool rockers, those being Mein Teil (only song of theirs where their commonly (mis)attributed tag "industrial metal" makes some sense), Ich tu dir Weh, Engel, Sehnsucht, Bück dich, Reise Reise, and Benzin (love the atmosphere of that one) but rest of their output does suck. I'd take Laibach over them any day.

Burzum - Tomhet

The room is throbbing.

EDIT: Oh, and Sonne. And Stein Um Stein. Maybe "few" wasn't a good word :P

Haha, it's been ages for me! I should dust off this one and have a listen.

Inanimate Existence - Calling From a Dream

I really like this new one. The female vocals work really nice with the tech-death on offer. It's probably more melodic than their first album, and even their last one, but I like it.

You have to at least add Bestrafe Mich in the rockers category.

Also, why do Rammstein get so much shit? They are actually pretty good especially Sehnsucht the album.

Eh, I dunno if I'd be that harsh on Rammstein, but I don't listen to their genre very much so I'm not sure how they compare to other such bands.

I don't think they get a lot of shit. In fact I'd say they're right next to System of a Down in the rare niche category of "bands that are frequently incorrectly called metal that metalheads like anyway". I like 'em. It's been years since I listened to them but they were a mainstay of my early teenage years and I don't remember anything about them flat out sucking (except I guess Pussy, I never heard the album with that song on it but that song was fairly lame and had nothing going for it other than the music video).

I love that one song from them where the vocalist goes "SSSHHTEERRRBEENNNN!!!!" I always thought that was badass

Burzum - Filosofem

Hmmm, I'm actually digging this. Ian liking black metal? I guess I'm not well today.

It reminds me too much of Killing Joke's Millennium, though. I'm not really comfortable with listening to songs that have riffs that sound too much like someone else's, especially if it's a band I don't really like (anymore). That's why I have problem's enjoying Summoning's Marching Homewards, sounds too much like Ohne dich, by *gasp* Rammstein. It's a good song but the association kinda ruins the fantasy atmosphere of Minas Morgul for a moment.

And yeah, BH is right, SOAD and Rammstein are one of those alt-rock "metal" bands that get some level of respect from metalheads. I'd add Maximum the Hormone to that list, too.

"shhhterrrbennn". Hmm, sounds like every other song by them.

Shakespeare's Animated Tales OST - As You Like It

Quite peculiar and borderline experimental. Somehow it fits the show.

Been running through all of Evol's discography lately. Shame they broke up. They had such a unique sound in the black metal scene where I can't really think of any bands that remind me of Evol. I've really been falling in love with these guys. It also helps that the woman band member in Evol is pretty hot. She had such a great stage presence.

Their most well known album would probably be "Dreamquest" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yQBe1-0f9Y
Here's their only recorded live performance that I know of - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=311ijYXuAWg

Nothing wrong with Burzum or that album. The riffs on there are catchy as hell. Give Hvis Lyset Tar Oss a spin next if you're still interested (but ignore the last track).

I cannot stand black metal so me actually enjoying some of it that's not that one Immortal album is a miracle. I was just recd the same one by someone else as well so I'll definitely give it a shot. Also Indians' WARDANCE (my booklet says war debts though, never knew which one was right) break is probably one of my favorite thrash breaks ever

If you liked Burzum, then give Drudkh a try. Far from the black metal you seem to hate.

That's a lot of material to hand someone without pointing them to a particular album or, hell, even an era to start with. My favorite Drudkh albums are the earlier ones, namely Forgotten Legends, Autumn Aurora, and Blood in Our Wells. I think you'll find black metal is a very diverse genre with some surprises here and there! :)

Goethes Erben - Ich liebe Schmerzen

Oooh, what an ending!

Cool! I'll take nature over anti-this and anti-that any day!

My thing with black metal isn't the harshness or the constant, um, constant-ness but rather the lack of musicianship. I know the bare minimum about black metal but things like Mayhem, Darkthrone, and [insert your personal favorite here] are just so boring and annoying to me. I've been looking around for the more artistic side of the genre. The lyrical norms are also a bit off-putting to me but that's to be expected.

Epidemia - Leprocomio

Wonderful Ecuadorian death metal! Has a very strong old-school flavour but still doing its own thing. Think maybe Cannibal Corpse has sex with Rapture (the Mexican band) and Incantation was masturbating in the corner. I hope that description works for you. Great band and this is one of the coolest releases this year, even if it's not the most innovative thing ever. Plenty of great riffs, wonderful drumming, and growls to kill a dragon.

"Musicianship" is certainly not a priority for me (unless we consider the ability to convey emotion as musicianship, but I don't think that's what you're trying to say). That said, the songwriting can be very strong. Drudkh always had a knack for writing powerful music, even if the execution isn't the most impressive.

Goethes Erben - Negativmaske
