This sounds like its straight out the early '90s. Very well done Finnish Death Metal

Vomitory - Blessed and Forsaken

Awesome band. Awesome album. Gonna be a bit sad at the end of the year.

Not impressed at all.

That album is some of the most phoned in power metal ever.

Right you are!

NP: Sinister - Altruistic Suicide, from Afterburner

A refreshing change of pace from the cheesy power metal I just endured.

Lord Belial - Master Of Destruction

All things considered you'd think this band would be more popular.

Atlantean Kodex - Pilgrim

Grand, epic music, and fantastic lyricism. These guys put 99% of other metal bands to shame with these lyrics...just superlative.

The Ruins of Beverast - Soliloquy of the Stigmatized Shepherd

That this seamlessly mixes funeral doom and black metal is a feat on its own; that it blends some of the best music I've ever heard from either genre into such a coherent vision is another thing entirely. Incredible album.

Shining - Longing Away From my Heart (from V- Halmstad)

The acoustic guitars, the leads, the chunkier riffs and even that sample from the Prozac Nation film, it all works very well and creates the desperate atmosphere it intends to. The vocals are spot on.

Immortal - Tragedies Blows at Horizons

I can never decide which Immortal album is my favorite, but 'At the Heart of Winter' is always a strong contender. Love how epic and melodic it is.

Nekrogoblikon - Bears

This is one of the only bands where the ridiculousness is part of their identity and they're still listenable.

Guardians Inhumane by The One
Generally inoffensive and pleasant black metal; very smooth on the lo-fi. Totally digging the wind, chimes, and strings in the ambiance. I need an album of pure ambiance from this guy.

Souls For Belial by Marduk

Sick ass norsecore stuffs...I don't know these guys continue to put out consistent material using pretty much the same formula over and over again, but they do.

Conquest - The Road To Nowhere, from Frozen Sky

Enjoying this power metal album a bit more than yesterday's disappointing listen to Symphonia.

I only heard today that Marko left the band, so I'm still pretty bummed. :(

"Dream Circle" -
Rapoon

I'm not sure how to describe this. It's a strange blend of Tribal Ambient, Dub and Psybient. interesting stuff.

Type O Negative - White Slavery

One of their best. I especially like the use of organs on this. And Peter Steele's deep voice. And the downtuned guitars. Well, everything really.

Ondskapt - Akilkarsa

Undulating, rumbling and crushing black metal. The sticker on the digipack lists a couple of similar Swedish black-metal bands, and then adds "And usually considered to be far more evil and darker than any of these". To some extent, it seems to be right.

I've been on a massive Priest kick these past couple days, and it's awesome, and it's showing no signs of letting up.

Melechesh : The Epigenesis (title track).

Easily one of the heaviest breakdowns I've heard. Great old school thrash riffage that just breaks out of tons of interwoven tremolo leads. Basically the climax of an hour long ritual.
