This band became good when they dropped the BDSM stuff.

*insert chilled out face here* Draper - The Chillout Sessions

Very peaceful and lovely electronic/ambient. It's like floating gently downstream on a giant lily pad.

Kataklysm - sorcery
Schizophrenic hyper blasting death with off kilter drumming. I like Max (he has his charm) but Nick Miller was obviously a better drummer.

Papilio Effectus "Chrysalides"

Female-fronted progressive metal (Japan seems to have a lot of those). Pretty happy with this one so far.

Drudkh - Forgotten Legends

Beautiful in every way possible. Just like the album's cover, it sounds orange. These guys totally rip.

Earth - Earth 2

I can imagine this album would be pretty intense in the right setting, haven't heard it in quite a while but I remember lsitening to this back when and it was pretty crushing

Blind Guardian - Lost in the Twilight Hall
Was there any drummer who could combine speed and groove as effortlessly as Thomen Stauch? No matter how fast he goes, he never sounds stiff.

Gorguts - Pleiades' Dust

This is my second listen and I feel there needs to be a lot more to full grasp this. This isn't going to usurp Colored Sands but I feel it will be a decent addition to their discography once I get more familiar with it.

They get a lot of shit from people but Queens is quite a band, several good albums from them.

NP: Coil - Musick to Play In The Dark Vol. 1

First time listening and yeah the name fits. It's late and i'm drunk and feeling the vibes here, really should listen to more Coil. Love these synths.

Sadistik Exekution - The Magus

AGONIZING THE DEAD :headbang: This is a really fun album. I can't find the CD, but HHR has a shirt with the album art minus the border. Is the Magus the name of their mascot too, because it's on all their other art too.

Destroyer 666 - Wildfire

I'm not sure where this album goes when ranking their discography, but after seven years it's good to hear them again. This album, no matter where it ranks, rocks out and has some great riffs and vocal lines everywhere. I would have enjoyed it maybe a little more if the production was beefier, but otherwise this is formidable. Might not make my top five or even top ten (this year has been incredible), but I like it.

Introrectalgestation - Hooves of Human Teeth

Absolutely crazy death/grind. Not for the faint of heart (or ears). Too bad this was all we got from this insane yet talented band.

Drudkh - A Furrow Cut Short. This band can do no wrong. I even loved their acoustic Songs of Grief and Solitude, which I suspect got low reviews simply for not having any metal in it. Furrows and everything else they do is that perfect balance of black metal darkness and folk melancholy. PS I'm not sure what a furrow is, but the word gives me a rodent-like compulsion to gnaw on something fibrous.

He gave life to BG, after he left they started sounding more artificial and dull.

Witchfinder General - Friends Of Hell

Can't make up my mind which is better, this or Death Penalty. Both doom classics.

Testament - "One Man's Fate"

"TIME!! is nothing but life's decay!"

May just be my favorite Testament song (at least tied with DotW), these riffs are just vicious, and the solo is jaw-dropping. I'm well aware that Souls of Black is considered to be a bad album, but I love it so much. Really clean, fun, and riff-oriented thrash.

I agree that he was one of those drummers that are impossible to replace. One of the reasons I don't even mess with new BG even though they may be good albums.

Kalmankantaja - Tyhjyys

I was so excited to see this pop up on Youtube.. if excited is the right word for music like this. I think this is only the second time I've listened to it but it already feels like a classic I've listened to a million times - from the slowly cascading riffs to the spacey part near the end. I would get their CD if I hadn't just spent all my spending money at Maryland Deathfest.. XD

Cryptopsy - Blasphemy Made Fresh

This is absolutely savage. The drum sound on here really stands out. Its weird that the drums are louder than the guitars, but the mix sounds awesome. There are also some outstanding bass lines.

Shiver of Frontier "Memory of Destiny"

Sounds a tad demo-ish and I could live without the programmed drums (I've heard real drums that sound worse though). Some gorgeous neoclassical guitarwork on this though. This has the potential to grow on me and at least it has much better sound quality than their previous single.
