Diapsiquir - A.N.T.I.

Holy shit balls, this band fucking sucks. I'm baffled as to why I ever bought this album (and Virus S.T.N.), but I must've seen the genre tag and thought that this would be good. It's completely, utterly directionless, and each song lacks any sort of cohesion. And when they do try to be cohesive, it still ends up sounding like a total mess of weird guitar licks, samples that try to push and fight their way to the front, and some shit-awful vocals (which I can appreciate that they're in French, but the delivery is the pits). Half the time the band doesn't know what the hell it wants to do and just seems to try any old random thing and declare that it works. Nope, sorry. There's way better bands in this genre that deserve more attention. I'll be trading these albums into the Sydney metal shop tomorrow so I won't have anything to do with this band ever again. :)

And with that, Diapsiquir's career ended!

I wish!

Ulcerate - Shrines of Paralysis

Moving on to something better. Here the music may seem directionless at times, but at least these guys pull it off with awesomeness, and you still feel in some control of what's happening. Ulcerate continue to be on top of their game here.

A pretty fine album, sadly the band seems to be inactive those days. :(

Elffor-Frostfog

Just waiting to listen to something from the new ambient work of Eöl, meantime is good to go back to his roots.

Graveland - Creed of Iron

Listened this last night when going to sleep, and now again. The first songs didn't move me much, but the "b-side" was excellent. Those choirs and all.

If my memory isn't totally polluted, I think I bought them on a whim at a store in Melbourne when I was on holiday there. I only saw the genre tag on MA and the favourable reviews, so I gave them a shot. Bad mistake from me, but I'm clearly in the minority here. Glad you like them, though. :)

Decapitated - Winds of Creation

I'm tipsy and feeling pretty good thanks to alcohol...but let's play some crushing death metal instead.

Crushing death metal is always a good combination when feeling tipsy.

For me: Megadeth - Killing Is My Business..And Business Is Good

Played this so many times it went out of my rotation. Just wore it out. Enough time has passed its worked its way back into my music rotation

Artificial Brain - Synthesized Instinct (single taken from the album Infrared Horizon out 04.21.17)

Outlandish, atmospheric & oddly catchy tech death, can't stop listening to this one. Loving those high rasps too.

That Ulcerate record is very good, but quite unpleasantly brickwalled.

NP:
Immolation - Atonement
No disappointment to be found here, a solid offering. Definitely worth a few spins.

As much as I loved Shrines of Paralysis I'd have to agree with your statement.

Checking out the new Immolation too & thus far I'm enjoying it alot.

Battle Beast - Enter the Metal World

This still rules. Amazing how good these guys used to be - recommended for people who've heard any of their later albums if you want to hear an actual quality band at work. Boatloads of energy and attitude, plus confident, badass riffs.

I'm checking it out now. It's pretty good. I am not the biggest fan of this style of metal, but this is pretty good.

Power Trip - Waiting Around to Die

I'm losing my marbles hearing the whole thing now. The best thrash I've heard in years.

Falkenbach - ...Where His Ravens Fly

Superb song and album, the string instrument part reminds me heavily of an 80's pop song but I can't remember which one.

I like to imagine there's a golden altar somewhere in the sky where the greatest metal songs ever recorded stand on top of a marble pillar, not too many bands get to place a song there, you can find no more than five or six anthems per genre in such place, but Stratovarius' Elysium stands proudly in one of those marble pillars.

Falkenbach - Tanfana

Neat instrumental, it makes me think of a cold, foggy crop field for some reason.

I think Battle Beast is awesome but I acknowledge that since Noora replaced Nitte they've been shallow and inoffensive pop metal. Granted, I think they're generally a lot of fun and the occasional full on metal assault like Speed and Danger or Fight Kill Die are incredibly cool, but even I can't deny that their first album has a lot more effort put into the riffing and energy department. The self titled is my favorite but it's a lot more focused on just big bombastic hooks and catchy AOR choruses, and Noora's snarl is infinitely inferior to Nitte's but I think her voice works really well for the whole "AOR era Priest playing Living on a Prayer a dozen times in a row" style they utilize now. So yeah, check out Steel and the self titled if you're curious. If you like Steel more, just stick with that since they only got lighter and sillier as time went on, but if you like the s/t then there are at least a handful of songs on the next two albums worth hearing.

Steel is the only one I really enjoy, but the second album is at least half really good stuff - the other half comes off a bit unmemorable to me but it ain't bad and I'd probably give the album a 75-80%. The next two are not that great at all and rely too much on the poppier songwriting style, losing the exuberance they used to have. Still better than some popular bands in the genre though, as at least a few songs on each of them are very good.

Still listening to the new Power Trip. Fantastic stuff. If you like thrash even in the slightest, listen to this my dudes.

Sawol - Promo

I miss the doom from their earlier stuff, but it's still pretty solid tunes and I'm looking forward to whatever they cook up next (which is hopefully more than a three-song EP or a single...).

I'm enjoying this a lot more than when I first purchased it. Seeb's vocals are a bit hidden, but it still works.

Listening to Three of a Perfect Pair from King Crimson and it might possibly be a new favorite from them. Surprisingly fresh and unique take on artsy/new wavy 80s rock stuff. They're prog classics are impressive as always but I'm really interested in their experimental stuff that came later. Cooler than Red I think
