Helloween - King for 1000 Years

My favorite song by these guys, bar none. A masterwork of composition for the genre that more bands should aspire to.

It's not quite my favorite, but it's definitely up there. I'm more partial to "Dr. Stein" and "The Saints," but I'm always game for THE KING FOR A THOOOOUUUUUUUUUUSAND YEEEAAARS!! :np:

Morbid Angel - Destructos vs. The Earth (Combichrist Remix)

This always, always makes me giggle. That guy in the grocery store has to be in on the joke.

That one along with "Salvation," "Fallen to Pieces" and some others are up there for me. "The Invisible Man" and "Born on Judgment Day" too.

Portrait - Beast of Fire

Not bad, pretty energetic and well played, but I don't like it as much as a lot of people do. Just lacking something for me.

Gruesome - Trapped in Hell

Exactly what you'd expect: 100% Death worship, particularly Leprosy-era Death.

Nice description! Their best one for me.

My favourite Drudkh album keeps changing. Right now, this is the one i keep going back to.

Immolation - Failures for Gods

First time listening to this CD in full by Immolation, so far it is good. Once Ordained is a really good track.

Crikey!

I'm playing through a few dozen old drum n bass tapes I recorded from the radio in 2001 evidently /nostalgia
This one right now was on new years eve I think

Inquisition - Summoned by Ancient Wizards Under a Black Moon

Vastum - Re-Member

One of my favorite death metal albums of all time. The chugging riffs in this song are brilliant.

Nokturnal Mortum - The Voice of Steel

Been listening to these mammmoth albums like this, Monotheist and World Coming Down lately. Not quite sure what to think of this. Some quiet and progressive parts are awesome, but other than that. I don't know...

Iron Maiden - Brave New World

Damn, I haven't listened to this album in ages. Forgot how awesome it is, despite being so corny.

Bathory - Shores in Flame

Pandora evidently thinks I like Bathory. Well, to be fair, I've never actually listened to them before, but if this song can be taken as a representative of what I've been missing, then, well, I've been missing out.

You have over 4,000 posts in the MA forum and have never listened to Bathory before... How is this even possible?

Darkthrone - Inn i de dype skogers favn

This is the bare bones of primitive black metal. It's not bad, but it borders on being boring. It just pushes the repetition just a little bit too far. The rockin' riff (2nd one) is a nice one.

I'd say so :) if you're at all interested in black metal and viking metal, then Bathory cannot be avoided!

Starless - 銀の翼 (Silver Wings)

Brilliant album. Female-fronted progressive hard rock with some metal tendencies. Has an epic flair to it too.

Macabre Omen - From Son to Father

Absolute perfection. When there is a ten year wait for a band between albums, sometimes one can worry, but not with this band - oh no. The debut was a richly rewarding black metal album, full of aggression but also moments of pure, anthemic pride, and gloriously constructed movements that capture the soul, guiding it through the flames. Stunning, stunning record. This new album however, is on a whole other level. Meticulously crafted, and stirring, with huge imperious melodies that command attention, and in this track in particular, brilliant clean vocals that soar upon these riffs with ease and power.

Well worth the wait, and welcome back.

Cradle of Filth - Nocturnal Supremacy

In particular this bootlegged demo from 1994 or 1995 in rather low quality. Probably the closest there'll ever be to hearing Cradle with real, lo-fi black metal production.

Nifelheim - Servants of Darkness

Been on a huge Nifelheim binge lately. One of my favorite bands. I used to listen to them constantly, then only sporadically over the last few years, but have been playing their albums very often once again. One of the greatest extreme metal bands of all time IMO. Now I need me a copy of the latest EP...

^Album just ended as I was typing. Now it's:

Queensrÿche - The Warning

What happened to this band...? :durr:

Katavasia - Sacrilegious Testament

Still enjoying a glorious ass whooping from this album. Everything just sounds right, the vocals, the guitars, drums... I don't see myself ever getting tired of this one

Cosmic Church - Ylistys

I didn't think much of this when it was first released, but I'm really enjoying it now. Dunno what I was thinking back then, because this is awesome! Lots of variation but it still sounds very much one album. Yet another album goes on the "to buy" list.

V/A - Tliltic Tlapoyauak

It's all well and good trying to come across as kvlt, but some decent production would do wonders for these Black Twilight guys. Very good collection of black metal though(with one or two garbage songs)

Cradle of Filth - Spattered in Faeces

That section beginning at 2:25... it sounds so familiar! Was it worked into a song from "The Principles of Evil Made Flesh"?

In any case, a wonderful song. It just seems like CoF couldn't do anything wrong in this period, infusing gothic elements into extreme metal.

EDIT: Holy shit! It's Dreams of Wolves in the Snow! :)

Excelent doom/death metal in the vein of Katatonia. The best album of these Italians.

Man, I love this album. Very good, no frills black metal with raw production but still clear enough for you to hear every instrument.

Legionnaire - The Enigma of Time

When's my tape coming? Lots of energy packed into this little demo. Lots of little madcap leads being thrown all over the place, with a sort of untamed, infectious fun permeating the air.

The atmosphere of this album is one of a kind. Even though the songs are quite minimalistic this is seriously emotional stuff.

I'm sorry, this has some seriously rhythmic breakdowns and top notch chugging.

I'm willing to accept a demotion to corefag for this.

Surprised I didn't start listening to Jupiter sooner considering how big a fan of Versailles I am.
