Rush - The Anarchist

Me likes this album.

VI - De Praestigiis Angelorum

Very good black metal here. Violent, yet melodic.
My only complaint here is that the production, as clear as it is, isn't powerful enough. A bit more oomph would have served the style better.

Black Majesty - Stargazer

Man, this is great. But I also forgot exactly how different this was from their most recent album. It's like a different band entirely...the new one's so disappointing.

Slayer - 'Unit 731'

WHAT ARE YOUR FINAL THOUGHTS?!

Slayer rule! (Usually.)

Rising Door "Voltage"

Reminds me a lot of Aphasia (esp. the vocals).

Kamelot - The Black Halo

I was told to listen to this, as it is considered to be THE Kamelot album. It is decent, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of it. The highlight for me was "Moonlight."

WASP - The Last Command

I never really gave this album a proper chance. Was I always under the spell of the first album. This record works. It's more of a party metal album, whereas the first flirted more with dark forces and all that shit. Makes me want to check their later albums out. The Headless Children and The Crimson Idol perhaps?

Nightwish - Beauty and the Beast

Needed something "quieter" to listen to today so thought maybe Angels Fall First. Came down with a flu and am a bit of a mess with fever and headache. Wanted something relaxing to listen to, still not sure this is the right choice. Might switch off to some Drudkh or Ulver or something, we'll see. Any other suggestions for "I'm sick as fuck but want to listen quiet, relaxing music anyway" type listening? :-P

I'm also sick as all hell today so I'm breaking away from metal for a bit and listening to some ambient while I try to down shitty liquid medication.

NP: A Winged Victory for the Sullen - S/T

Some nice calming ambient, haven't listened to this before but so far it's really smooth and nice.

Edguy - Space Police: Defenders of the Crown

After my first listen a few weeks ago, I wasn't really that impressed. Now, about halfway through my second listen today, my opinion has changed to a positive one. For some reason, it takes me a few listens to get into Edguy albums.

Blind Guardian - The Ninth Wave

Great rumbling, dense epic. Love it. They take no prisoners here.

ShadowQuest - Blood of the Pure

Tobias Sammet, I mean Patrik Johansson, where have you been all of my life? I have no idea how I've managed to evade Johansson for so long because he's already jumped into my top 10 favorite vocalists list.

Static-X - Shadow Zone

Why am I listening to Craptastic-X? Because I remembered their song 'Skinnyman' from the Need For Speed: Most Wanted soundtrack and had pangs of nostalgia. I went to see what became of the band, and came across what must be some of the most early 2000s looking cover art ever, something which just screams 'TRAINWRECK!' to me. And the music reflects this dated nature, and my assumption. I don't really have to say this to be honest, but goddammit this sucks!

Tried this out, nice but maybe for another day. A bit too ambient for my mood despite my splitting headache.

Been sticking to Ulver with this horrible sickness, Perdition City's been serving me well.

Really liking this new song. In my opinion, better than most of Omnivium.

PENs+ "OUR days."

Another great mini-album from these guys. Overall it seems a little more subtle than the previous stuff, but the musicianship and songwriting are definitely all there. This is definitely worth many more plays.

The Black Dahlia Murder: Everblack

This is pretty catchy, gonna go see them this Friday so I'm catching up with where I left off years ago.
Those solos are actually fucking incredible, they've come a long way. Hopefully it's a good show.

Enslaved - In Times (2015)

Bought this back in March and played it only twice since when it has gathered much dust. Gonna give it another chance with prolonged plays over the next week.

Same here.

Karyn Crisis' Gospel Of Witches - Ancient Ways

I was a huge Crisis fan back in the '90's and I have always dug Karyn's vocals but as much as I've wanted to love this new project, something about it has kept me at arm's length. I still dig her vox, especially when paired with Ross Dolan's (from Immolation) but the music is too wispy and ephemeral for me. Wish it was heavier/sludgier. Oh well...

Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls

I actually quite dig this album. It's long as fuck, sure, but I think it works really well.

Nightwish - The Pharaoh Sails to Orion

THE best Nightwish song, no competition.

Dream Theater - The Gift of Music

The Rush worship is getting completely out of hand. "The Looking Glass" and "The Best of Times" were already annoying but this is like listening to a Rush tribute band, right down to the lyrics.

Of a world that has gone very wrong for me! Can it be that there is some sort of error? Hard to stop the surmounting terror.

Iron Maiden - These Colors Don't run

Thank you for reminding me to listen to some Maiden. This is probably Maiden's most underrated album.

Is it really the end not some crazy dreeam?

Thread's turning into a Maiden party now :-D

Now I've come full circle back to Iron Maiden - Children of the Damned

Iron Maiden!

Zero Nine - N.E. Files

The first listen and sounds good. Not the first ZN album I've bought this years. Still need to get their two first albums (atleast). Finnish hard rock!

I'm the only one in the office today so tunes are getting cranked at window rattling levels:

Firespawn - The Emperor

Catchy as fuck! Great riffs, great solo, hellish vocal performance from L.G. and I like that it doesn't just sound like Entombed.

Killing Joke - Hosannas From The Basement Of Hell

One of KJ's ugliest, gnarliest, heaviest songs: "go psycho!"

Gorgoroth - Open the Gates

I think the four Pest-fronted tracks on the Destroyer album are underrated as hell. I don't understand why they only play the title cut live. Anyway, this song sounds like a combination of the epic song structures from Antichrist with the vicious energy on Under the Sign of Hell. Those clean choir vocals are disturbing as hell.

Blind Guardian - Beyond the Red Mirror

With all of the recent Bling Guardian discussion, I decided to revisit their latest album. I didn't put this in my top 5, but I'm thinking about changing that.

A crow, a storm. Shadows will be rising soon!

Cultes des Ghoules - Rise of Lucifer EP

Didn't even realize this had been released until tonight, and tho it's obviously a bit less polished than their last album, it's great. True black metal, in all its evil, perverted, misanthropic glory.

Stone Temple Pilots - Purple

Been listening to this one and Core a lot today. You know, I've heard a bunch of other songs from the later albums, but I need to pick up a copy of Tiny Music and No.4 sometime. Sad news. RIP Scott.

Sarke - Pessimist

Been a while since listening to Oldarhian. Will see if the problems I had with it before have stuck, but do remember used to love the Stranger Brew, think it was just songs like Paradigm Lost were kind of meh to me.

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Metal music; purified. One of the greatest albums of all time, even if it is completely silly and retarded.

Tales Of Medusa - The Gate To Tartarus

This is incredible, I can't believe this band is still virtually unknown. Just getting into them myself and the album is beyond astonishing!
