It's like this album was made specifically for me. A synthesis of the best elements of the oft-underappreciated dark PM sound propagated by bands like Morgana Lefay, Tad Morose, Arch Nemesis and Brainstorm. Great vocals, catchy songs and chunky, headbanging riffs galore, plus a cool lyrical story about a girl who takes over the grim reaper's job. Marvelous work.

I may have to give that a whirl sometime. Dark PM isn't exactly common and I haven't ran into any of that in quite some time.

NP: 電気式華憐音楽集団 "Athazagoraphobia"

Nice song-title.

Yeah you would probably like it. The riffs and production tend to sound rather upbeat when the band is going full speed, but there's always this sense of melancholy in the vocals and sometimes it gets very dark and dramatic. It's an interesting album.

jizue - chaser

So this album was a victim of being held up by backorder for about a month and I finally got it today. In the meantime, I got all of the band's other albums, and I enjoy them very much. It's a nice approach to modern jazz.

But holy shit, this one is probably their best and I'm only 3 songs in. The mathy-touches, the melodies, the atmosphere, everything is just fucking perfect. I had a feeling that I'd like this one the best, but I didn't think it'd be this fucking good.

Spectral Lore - III

On my first exposure to this. Most of the way through right now and it rules. Songwriting-wise this project is so visionary and organic, almost wandering, yet the compositions all present themselves to tightly and eloquently at the same time. Fucking cool stuff. Not afraid at all to take risks and try weird, unexpected shit, but it all holds together amazingly well aesthetically, technically, conceptually. Splendid music, highly recommended.

I think Digimortal is a good album, i love the electronic/futuristic sounding flourishes.

Great song, Digimortal is far from being the best album of these guys, but it has some great songs.

Insomnium-Down with the Sun

Absolutely brilliant melodic death metal with the distinctive Finnish touch.

Going to have to buy this, as I love Sentinel.

Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again

Great song from a timeless band that really know how to get a melody stuck in your head.

Gargoyle - Fullcolor Answer.

Surely part of the year's Top 10. Excellent album.

Awesome! Sounds like Aces High, but with an even better intro. Love these guys.

I'd say give it a test run first. The album contains some fairly unorthodox stuff (some prog passages, odd instrumentals) and like I said, it all holds together really well in my view, but maybe best to preview it before dropping the cash, just to be on the safe side. Though you're the one that owns a leather jacket between the two of us, which makes you the risk-taking badboy and me the virginal dweeb, so never mind me, purchase away!

NP: Graveland - "Jewel of Atlanteans"

Ablaze in Hatred – Ongoing Fall

dark, heavy, long, repetitive and depressive; exactly the kind of music I love the most

Integrity - Taste My Sin

Been jammin' Integrity hard lately. This track is wicked heavy and sinister. So many bands bite this sound but no one comes close to catching Integrity's overall misanthropy.

Unrelenting Death Metal with some blackened thrash traces. Nice

It's a great album in my opinion, it reminds me of Merciless - The Awakening.

Currently listening to Svartidaudi - Flesh Cathedral. Can't wait to see them live in October, I really like them.

Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain

First run through, on Bloodstained Cement. First impression is good! Was hoping for some slower tracks, the title track is probably my favorite at the moment. Still, lots of fun.

According to a recent interview, the guy has a lot of unreleased finished material for both LoC and Leviathan. So one can only hope he will release something in the near future:)

NP: Gris - À l'âme enflammée, l'äme constellée

A big step-up from their previous album 'Il était une forêt'. They went more orchestral, with the usage of string instruments amongst others. While the previous album was more suicidal, this has been lifted to a new level where orchestra and black metal meet one another in a perfect mix. A definite recommendation!

Spinning this new shit again, basically HAD to re-draft my review for this. God, this is actually pretty great, what was I thinking giving it this low?

My favorite DC tune. Ever. I'm of the opinion that the quality on that EP is above par the rest of the other stuff they've done.

X Japan - Desperate Angel

So this opened up sounding like some really fucking cheesy 80s glam/hard rock thing, but then the double bass somehow started going and it got really fucking metal. I'm not sure what's going on here.

Stone Sour cds "(S/T, Come What(ever) May, Audio Secrecy, & House of Gold & Bone Part 1/2).

Corey Taylor's main band Stone Sour is Brilliant (look at House of Gold & Bone epic). I wish he left Slipknot now to focus Stone Sour more.

This was recommended to me by a friend a while back and I'm just now getting around to listening, pretty good so far. just your basic black metal but it has a nice atmosphere going on.

The album is ok. They are really trying to be Deathcore Cynic. This is sort of like their deathcore equivalent to Traced in Air. I expect their four album is just gonna be spacy prog stuff.

I don't think that The Contortionist will ever release another album that I like again. Exoplanet was fantastic, and I haven't liked anything they've done since then.

I'm giving this album a listen now and I really dig it. Deathcore Cynic sounds right, although Fallujah have upped it to real good levels. New singer sounds like Jonas Renske a lot of times.

Another masterpiece. I read Gildenlow finds this one his least favourite album. I'm hard-pressed to really pick my least favourite, to be honest.

The new one, Language. Vocalist likes saying "ebb and flow" a lot, but I dig his voice. Not as much growls from what I can tell based on looking at the band's earlier works.

Melechesh - Emissaries

I don't think it's quite as strong as the two albums it's sandwiched between (Sphynx and The Epigenesis) but it's still sublime as hell. So many great, catchy riffs and a massive sound.
