Ulver - Wolf & the Devil

Intense! I like how brutal the first riff is, and the rest of the song is just as epic and atmospheric as ever.

Exmortus - Immortality Made Flesh

This band has a really unique take on thrash. There's a ton of shreddy/classical influence, which is a really interesting contrast to the thrashing they deliver.

Abhorer - Rumpus of the Undead

if the production were a bit cleaner, this could pass for a demo released this year. That's how far ahead of it's time it was.

Chapel of Disease - The Dreaming of the Flame

Pretty interesting stuff. Anyone who likes the whole Tribulation/Morbus Chron style of dreamy death metal should check this out.

Diamond Head - I don't Got

Diamond Nights is a pretty neat compilation because it contains the first 7 of the early songs that never made it to a full length release. I guess it would be perfect if they'd added the stuff on Four Cuts, and perhaps also the four songs Borrowed Time premiered.

Satanic Warmaster - Fimbulwinter

Satanic Warmaster goes Swedish? It's a good album. I really want to get that dope ass shirt.

Wolf - At the Graveyard

Such an underrated heavy metal band. I like how a lot of their songs are the type of songs you could play around Halloween. Gives it a cool vibe.

Phobocosm - Deprived

The intro will crush you. Great stuff

Genocide Shrines - Manipura Imperial Deathevokovil

I have no idea what the album and song titles mean but they sure are ridiculous. Guess it seems "kvlt" to them.
Anyways, the music is very good

Eternal Valley-A Life in the Stars

Atmospheric bm based on the space and all this stuff. This song is particularly hypnotic and dark.

Vagrond - "Within These Walls- Part I" from Of Separation and Departure

Pained, atmospheric, terrifying, and beautiful. Four words describe this album so far as it is my first listen. Glad I picked this one up and will probably be hunting down Vagrond's other works in the near future.

Sarpanitum - Thy Sermon Lies Forever Tarnished

So hooked on this phenomenal DM.

Is version very different from the studio version? By the way, have you ever The Ruins of Beverast's cover of this behemoth of a tune? I recommend you listening to it if you haven't already cause it's even more darker than the original.

Solid, if a bit usual sounding speed/thrash/power. Mike Howe delivers the good as always.

Perfectly acceptable work from Drudkh. Maybe not worth the longest gap in their discography, but still a solid outing.

All Tomorrows - Kismet. How in the bloody hell this piece of horseshit turned so popular around here? This is just another Meshuggah wannabe band with a slightly more metallic edge and even worst vocals. Fuck djent.

Alcest - Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles

Nothing better than throwing one of their records on after a long day. Fantastic live last week in Manchester, too.

Steel Prophet - The Ides of March

Killer, wailing melodic metal.

Sarpanitum - Fidelium

Amazing EP, tightly composed tech death with powerful flow, streamlined structure, excellent production and of course sweeping riffs and leads with a black metal influence that add so much more flavor. A must-hear for any death metal fan, I'd say.

Samael - Worship Him

Checking this out again after some discussion on the board over the last few days. I like it more on second listen, now that I've got more context for it. Wouldn't give it a perfect score but it certainly brings the primitive, sadistic Satan and even manages some currents of subtlety to boot. Pretty extreme stuff for its time, and still heavy as hell now.

Cattle Decapitation - Dead Set on Suicide

I don't think it's a stretch to say that Monolith of Inhumanity could be seen as a modern death metal classic in a couple more years.

Iron Maiden - Weekend Warrior

Silly song, but I love the bridge (I think it's called), around 3:25, it sounds like a video game soundtrack!

Darkthrone - The Hordes of Nebulah

Heaviest song in existence!

Taake - Gamle Norig.

Good for frightening the mrs, marauding cats, and nosey neighbours.

It is slightly different yes in the sound department, instantly recognizable, but the violins are missing or reeeeal quiet, and the guitar tone seems... less raw, if that makes any sense for a demo version. Either way it still crushes. As for The Ruins of Beverast cover, yes. Yes I have heard and own that EP, on vinyl of course very, very good cover.

Verminous - Old Is the Shadow ov Death

Ripping death metal track. Smack bang in the middle of this raging, slightly thrashing beast is a blatant homage to Bolt Thrower that is worked seamlessly into the riff barrage. Great stuff.

Hellshock - Walking Death

Gets the blood boiling and manages to be a well crafted, dynamic song.

Dead Congregation - Only Ashes Remain.

Flawless ****ing death metal.

Vhöl - Arising

Overall I was disappointed with this supergroup debut, but this song is flawless. Cobbett riffing/melodies at their best. Can't wait for the follow up late this year!

Gothmog - The Awakening of Lord Strigoi

Really solid black metal from Spain. I just found out about these guys and the first album is stellar.

Therion - Ginnungagap

Secret of the Runes was the only album IMO where Therion made the whole opera metal thing work. The opera and the metal flow seamlessly instead of the songs lurching to a halt whenever the opera starts up like on Sirius B or just being boring as shit like on Vovin.

That soprano needs a sock stuffed in her though. She's shrill and unpleasant to listen to.

Borgne-Suffer as I paid my grave

Tremendous black metal with an interesting atmspheric touch. Great album.

Ascension - Deathless Light

I've been listening to this album a lot in recent weeks. The lyrics are not my thing but the music sheer genius. Love the guitar solo at the start of Mortui Mundi

Gorgoroth - Instinctus Bestialis. Really strong and enjoyable album. Infernus' songwriting is in excellent shape.
