Candlemass - Ancient Dreams [album]

Controversial opinion, perhaps, but this whole album is... while perfectly competent and at times enjoyable, also really dull, almost tedious. It just lacks a certain magnitude and presence, to its detriment.

PAIN OF SALVATION - Falling Home

The limited edition w/ the 2 bonus-tracks. Digging it so far. Stress was a very interesting song.

The name of the band was inspired by a small Spanish town called Bélmez de la Moraleda. This town became famous because of paranormal phenomena which allegedly occurred in the 70s. The phenomena consist in strange images of faces which used to appear on the floor and on the walls of a modest family house in the town. The cause of the curious haunting has never been firmly established. One of those face images can be seen on the cover of Belmez's debut album "Berserker".

A german band inspired by this fact?!? LOL!

Vid I from (1999) Taake - Nattestid Ser Porten Vid.

Brilliant unorthodox death metal

I need to check this band out...

Opale - Sparkles and Wine

Utterly amazing downtempo/ambient. Wherever you are PhiloFrog, thank you, this is stunningly gorgeous.

Do you mean the magnitude and presence that the song "Black Dwarf" from my favorite, S/T, manages to achieve?

Rivers of Nihil - Rain Eater

This is a lot better than most technical death metal nowadays, sadly the entire album isn't very consistent.

Deathstorm - Nechesh

Majestic U.S.-style osdm from Poland. Also the only band name that is shared by two bands in my music library.

Kingsblood - The Howl

Came across this randomly on Bandcamp: very old-school melodic death metal with medieval warfare as theme. Not original by any stretch of the imagination but a fun headbanging workout none-the-less.

I listened to the new Taake (it leeked) this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it despite the fact that I was half awake on my way to work. They seem to always throw in interesting little musical wrenches on top of the great black metal. I heard no banjo, though.

Crushed, Execration rule! If you like Obliteration, this would be right up your alley. They're a little more experimental though but kickass nonetheless.

Saturnus - I Love Thee

This is not something I've listened to in a long time. Sometimes, you just succumb to weepy doom/death.

Moanaa - "Sunset Growing Old" from Descent

Quite possibly my favorite album of 2014. I need to spend a little more time with it, but I am really, really enjoying this.

Hammers of Misfortune - The Trial and the Grave

The "And no one on Earth seemed to know where she went" line is so, so evocative and creepy. What a fucking masterwork of a song.

Nice. Obliteration fucking rip, so thanks. Bought the cd/double vinyl deal from Hells headbangers

Tortorum - As the Light Falls to Slaughter

This is such a raging black metal album - wickedly menacing. The vocalist breaks out into an evil laugh as a vile and harsh almost thrash style break start ripping through. Unholy magic.

Corsair - Centurion

Pretty solid song! I received the album as a freebie in an order at one point and am just getting to it now. I went in expecting not to like it at all since I'm not particularly into psychedelic rock beyond Pink Floyd and a couple others. Especially didn't think I'd like a modern psychedelic rock band, but these guys manage to blend in some pretty tasty riffs in here! On the second spin of Ghosts of Proxima and really like Wolfrider, Warrior Woman and Centurion for sure. Would say Orca is decent enough although the intro makes me think it should be on a Free Willy soundtrack  Burnish the Blades and Eyes of God just aren't my cup of tea, though. Though I probably shouldn't be surprised that the tracks with a bit more of a heavy metal feel to them have been most appealing. Pretty good for something I wasn't expecting to like in the first place!

Try "(Memory Imprints) Never End", that's a good song.

I truly love this album, as shoddy as it is. It's got a charm to it.

Primordial - Babel's Tower

Alan's vocals have improved again - rough, raw but with a little more awesome clarity and power, and the music is darkly, richly beautiful. What a band. Seriously.

Nekrokrist SS - Shoot yourself
So... is this considered DSNSBM? For a band that's *probably* nazis, they sure do write a lot of songs about killing themselves. I guess even bigots get depressed, then? "Whatever, it doesn't matter. I don't even care about Hitler anymore"

Disinterred - 'Christhammer' EP (2013)

A digital-only release, if I'm not mistaken. These guys play thrashy black/death with a great punk-ish vibe to it - the singer sounds almost like a cross between Lemmy and M. van Drunen - and even if they could stand to tighten up their songwriting a bit (especially on the longer tracks) this is definitely a satisfying listen overall.

Certainly not unheard-of. After all, wasn't that Abyssic Hate dude a pioneer of both NSBM and DSBM?

Both of those are good closing songs, especially "Final Exit," but "A Therapy For Pain" remains my favourite one.

I'm still on the fence about this band. I can't quite love them yet. I understand they're spoken with much praise around these parts, but I can't quite share the sentiment, unfortunately.

The Schoenberg Automaton - Vela

Pretty sweet Australian tech-death. Interesting songs and they're awesome live, too.

Running Wild - Agents of Black

This is my first time listening to The Rivalry (just got it today), and while a step down from Masquerade (which is easily one of my favourite RW albums), they haven't quite lost it yet. I'm concerned to explore further, but I will likely buy any of their pre-Shadowmaker stuff if/when I come across it on CD.
