Carcass - Mount of Execution

I honestly don't know what to say about this album. Upon my first listen, I feel surprisingly neutral about it. It's a perfectly enjoyable album, but as of now, I can't say anything more than that. :???:

Heulend Horn - Fragments from the 13th Century

Cool, imaginative pagany black metal with a heavy medieval tinge, reminiscent of a more compositionally diverse Graveland. Good shit!

Since Fields of the Nephilim can't be arsed to record anything lately, this is probably the next best thing.

Reverend Bizarre- Gates of Nanna

One of the few cases where I prefer the cover over the original song. The Gates of Nanna feels like it's supposed to be a doom song, and the Rev realizes this perfectly with an awesome, creeping atmosphere and Witchfinder's unsettling chant like vocals. I miss these guys.

Fleurety - Profanations Beneath the Falling Stars

Those vocals, man. Completely ridiculous and I still have zero idea how somebody manages to do what this guy did.

Burton C. Bell - Enter Sandman

Some cover song played on a Metallica tribute CD, one with a bunch of individual artists doing various songs together rather than actual established bands playing covers. Threw the covers playlist on in the iPod and this one came up after Amon Amarth's Balls to the Wall (also awesome). Dunno why but I really like this version, probably because Burton's doing the vocals.

Indesinence - Vessels of Light and Decay

This is some great old-school death metal worship. I'll have to track down the debut album at some point. The songs here are quite long but are not overbearing, so the band is doing something very right.

diSEMBOWELMENT - Excoriate

First time listening to this... can see why it's so popular. Also, that Throne of Prophecy song was featured in Until the Light Takes Us!!

Manilla Road- Resurrection.

I love that big, beefy repetitive riff. And Shelton going off on top of it with his endless solos, like a freight train straining to leave the track.

Currently listening to the new Vesterian album. Really raw black metal with a sort of dissonant sound. Upon first listen it sounds very promising, if a tad bit repetitive. Awesome vocal performance though!

As of right now, I've been digging a lot of doom and so-called stoner metal. My main three bands as of late have been Electric Wizard, Sleep and (earlier) Pentagram. Definitely getting more into the genre, though. Any lesser-known suggestions?

Have you listened to Orange Goblin? Severely groovy stoner-ish doom-ish heavy metal. Really great stuff. If you're into slow-moving psych-laden stuff I'd recommend Acid King. Bongzilla if you don't mind a sludgy vocal. You also oughta check out Kyuss as they're the originators of heavy stoner rock. I also found Samsara Blues Experiment to be very similar to Sleep and Electric Wizard in their long psychedelic jams. Here, I'll give you a short list of albums:

Orange Goblin - The Big Black (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eTNc-v2too)
Acid King - Busse Woods (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asC24XhcoO8)
Bongzilla - Amerijuanican (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf3Nenq7vPI) <-Instrumental track
Samsara Blues Experiment - Long Distance Trip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TnNb3cBzuE)
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8VmoqBz9Vg)

Also:
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ekKjv3cJU)
Witch - Witch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5von-_FI0U)

Edit: Now with youtube links

Pathology - It's in the Blood

Great album. It's a grower: a lot of the brutal death riffing subtleties take a few listens to sink in and fully decipher. I love it. As good as any other Pathology album. I love the return of Matti Way. I do miss the leads that (ex-guitarist) Kevin Schwartz brought to the band, though.

Here you have some songs from different albums by Orange Goblin:

And you should, definitely, listen to Kyuss too.
Enjoy!

Having an advance listen to Oranssi Pazuzu's new record. Still the first listen, but it sounds promising enough apart from a few electronic parts that I don't enjoy.
