Amebix - Nobody's Driving

I go through the occasional Amebix phase - I enjoy it, but it's not the kind of thing which is always on my list, y'know.

Behemoth - Apostasy

Now that I have no work (which I really really resent), I have all the time I never had to explore all these mega groups which I put off even touching before. I have discovered some I really, really love. I don't know how I feel about behemoth. The vocals make me kind of weary, but it's pretty decent.

Rata Blanca - Rompe el Hechizo, off Rata Blanca

Their debut is far better than their latter stuff. I wished they would've kept this rawer, more American sound instead of the Europowery flourishes they started to include after this.

Is that from the new album? I need to re-listen to it at some point, but I've not felt in an Iron Fire mood for a long time.

Just finished re-listening to/reviewing Jute Gyte - Senescence. I must say I recommend it.

I understand the criticisms that come with this album. It's overblown, often times melodramatic, Ihsahn's vocals are quiet, but the wide-eyed seventeen year old in me that first heard this album six years ago still loves it. 1:03-1:22 is one of my favorite moments in metal. "Behold my coming!"

On occasion I love me some Anthems, too. With Strength I Burn followed by The Wanderer is such a great 1-2 punch to end the album.

Enslaved - Roots of the Mountain

Balls deep into RIITTIIR and loving it. :)

You know, I think Cast in Stone might be an absurdly underrated album.

Another listen of Neurosis - Honour Found In Decay

It's making more sense to me. Like all Neurosis albums, it just seems to get better with more listens.

It is. I also haven't been in much of a mood for Iron Fire. I only listened to their new album once or twice and just put it away. I really like a lot of their stuff, but haven't been in the mood for them in a while.

Listening to Anathema's Weather Systems album. Seriously, what a beautiful piece of music. So touching and rich with emotions.

Psychrist - Shroud Of Profanity (2002 re-recording)

This is a seriously brutal band, and relatively unheard/unmentioned round these parts. These guys are chock full of vicious vocals and scathing, twisting and FUCKING punishing riff filled death metal.

Try as I might, I just can't get into Alchemist. I like that kind of weird, quirky stuff, but something about them doesn't click with me. Too bad, really.

I only have Embrace Rapture in Disgust but I agree that Psychrist are pretty cool. I should try and find their second album.

Destruction - D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.

In anticipation of their next one, I guess it's a good idea to listen to other modern Destruction. This is a great album with loads of great riffs. "Devolution" and "Inner Indulgence" are stand-outs for me, but there's no weak songs on this particular album. Destruction at their best!

The Abysmal Fiend ep is also excellent Mikey, well worth hunting down.

Corpsessed - The Dagger And The Chalice

Some truly devastatingly atmospheric and crushing Finnish death metal here. Completely leveling stuff, with those monstrous vocals covering everything in a layer of blackened filth.

It is indeed some damn good shit, as is the self titled 7".

Christicide - Forward To Obscurity

Words fail me to accurately describe the feral, yet carefully crafted melodic mood of this astounding record. Beautifully sublime, in a menacing way.
