Condition Critical - Dr. Crit-kill

Stellar American thrash. Doesn't really do anything different, but it works.

Amesoeurs - Ruines Humaines

It's almost been 10 years since this EP was released. People may have varying opinions on Neige and his music, but looking back to the material of this band and the earlier Alcest recordings, there is no denying that he has left quite a musical impact. All this time later, I still haven't heard anything top Amesoeurs though....

Dimmu Borgir - A Succubus in Rapture

The closest thing to a ballad in Dimmu Borgir's discography, I'm sure. Shagrath's voice is in its prime here, and the guitars, drums, bass and that sugar sweet synth just works. While I draw a line between Stormblåst and this album, EDT is still a classic, filled with quality songwriting.

Cabal - Midian

I keep forgetting how good this one is. Quality death/thrash that knows when to slow down and knows when to attack. Too bad this is the only thing Cabal ever did.

Brain Drill - Quantum Catastrophe

Despite the detractors for this band and the type of frenzied music they play, I quite like this. It's better than the debut and I think the musicianship is further refined. I'm still awaiting a follow-up, if that ever occurs.

Bolt Thrower - War Master

All their records are packed with awesome riffs, but this particular album has a tone that make them sound heavier than usual. So good.

I remember myself not being very impressed but this album the first time I listened to it. But it growed a lot adn I love those riffs and how ridicously catchy these songs are.

Scythian - To Those Who Stand Against Us

One of my favourite albums. Fuck I'll never get tired of this. So excited for their second album (y'all niggas need Scythian! Find a blogspot somewhere, download it, live it, love it, be excited for their new 2015 album. Do it man!)

(And yes, I fucked up on the "Mexican language" comment. I know it's in fact Espanol shared by both Mexico and Spain. I had much to drink that night and it slipped the tongue (technically finger). Much apologies)

P.H.O.B.O.S - Solar Defrag

The walls are closing in, and the light seems so very far away, when it was so close earlier I could feel it's warmth however briefly, touching my dirt and grime encrusted face. The cold is a biting, deep chill now that is slowly eating into my skin, gnawing hungrily at my bones, awaiting to devour them. Strange movements are in the shadows, but why do they hold back? What is keeping them at bay? Or is there something worse lying in wait than these silent apparitions?

You should start writing reviews, man. :)

Np: Wolf - The Shadow of a Shade

Absolutely ripping and vicious. makes me wonder why the songs on their full length album sound so retained compared to this. This is heavy metal played at 100% intensity right here.

I need more from this band.

Not, exactly, what I was expecting.

Been listening Killing Joke's Night Time and The Cure the whole day, so here's something different. Aqualung's quite new for me. Only heard it couple times before.

Helrunar - Devils, Devils Everywhere

I can clearly hear the Sól vibe in this track (good!), and they have thrown in some aggressive riffs to spice things up. Very nice.

Flower Travellin' Band - Black Sabbath

One of the few cases of me liking a cover more than the original. They turned this song into a 9 minute long, semi-improvised acid jam. And it RULES.

I'm listening to the début Emergence album. It's a side project of the Conducting From the Grave vocalist. Its pretty good and they self released it. You can stream it on bandcamp or do what I did and buy it for $7 (digital download). Its a mix of metalcore/deathcore and some dgent.

I was going to say the same thing. Not only is P.H.O.B.O.S. a badass band, but Crushed can write entertaining and descriptive recounts like nobody's business. Write reviews, buddy!

Yob - Atma [album]

This seems to be one of the less popular Yob records. I've always been a big fan, however. Listening to "Clearing the Path to Ascend" has definitely re-kindled my interest in the band - journeying through the records I own by them at the moment.

Burzum - The Reckoning of Man

A very peaceful song. It somehow feels really intense when the synth later came @3:15ish. Not sure what genre this would be. Ambient? I think the main melody is piano and guitar played together, and there is synth and some electric sounds 2nd half.

Tomb of the Serpent King/Butchers of the Sea by Manilla Road from the album Voyager, 2008.

I used to be a HUGE Manilla Road fan back in high school and college. I've never really stopped listening to them, but for the past 2 years or so I haven't enjoyed them as much as I used too. I guess it's part of growing up. I recall only listening to Voyager a couple of times, so I'll give it another shot. I don't remember liking it much, but we'll see.

On the song, it starts with a movie-like intro, very cheesy and very 80's, both of those things in a good way. When, what I assume is, Butchers of the Sea starts around, it gets very heavy, even by USPM standards. I think it's Harvey singing rather than Shelton, but I may be wrong, I think I lost the booklet a few years back. During the final two minutes or so a kickass solo comes in, you know, the kind that doesn't sound phoned in or that it's there because they play "true metal". Towards the end there's a King Diamond-ish scream and the song just ends.

Kickass song by a kickass band, all told.

Spiritus Mortis - Death Bride
The character of the whole release is laden with a sense of ponderosity actually, but this track does stand out. And of course, what a voice- especially with its theatrics leading from section A to B.

Death - Story to Tell

I forgot how good this album is. I haven't spent as much time with it as any other Death albums because it was the last one I got and I had already mostly worn out the others by this point, so I wasn't as big into Death anymore. With that said, what I dislike about this album is that it is the record where Chuck's songwriting formula (go through the song once -> bridge/solo -> go through the song again) stopped working because all of the songs were so long.

Sigh - Gallows Gallery

I haven't slept in two days so I've been nodding off while I work on schoolwork. I threw this album on and woke up immediately. The first four song are just a chunk of awesome, energetic metal. Awesome album.

Don't worry... It gets better from there. Felt the same way about the first tracks.

NP - Visigoth - The Revenant King

So far this is really awesome. Just some good straight up heavy metal. They even cover one of my favorite Manilla road tracks "Necropolis". Shaping up to be a pretty solid album from what I have heard.
