Offending: Age of Perversion

This outting seems to be a bit more technical than I remember the last album being. I still like it.

I usually enjoy the first half of Call of the Wretched Sea a little more than the second half, which this track is on, but I'm not sure why; sounds great just now.

Whaat?!? This album is PERFECT!

I love it, but my favourite tracks on it are the opening track, and Old Thunder, both of which are on the first half. Listened to as a whole, however, the whole record is utterly fantastic.

NP: Candlemass - The Dying Illusion

First time trying out this record; so far, epic but not quite doom. Maybe I can surreptitiously convert all of my power-metal-loving friends to Candlemass through this...

Katatonia - Forsaker and The Parting

Two absolutely amazing, majestic album openers.

Sleep Research Facility: "Stealth 2"

Military ambient. The whole thing was recorded in a B2-Spirit hanger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B2_Spirit) during some downtime, though I have no idea how he got access to it. Not as good as the last album but still really cool.

In metal-ish news, the new Summoning is good.

"Old Thunder" is pretty damn amazing. The middle section is some of the best doom I've ever heard.

Morar - Four Stones

This whole demo is one of my favorite demos of all time. Very Arckanum-esque, with ear-cutting guitars... Really recommend this!

Profanatica - Pallid Saviour

Angry, primitive and crushing black metal with a weird production. The Incantation influence is quite obvious.

Rotting Christ - His Sleeping Majesty

A central riff so awesome you are pissed you didn't come up with it, outside of this album I don't know a lot about this band, some oldschool zines talked shit about them in the late 90s, I think they have a million albums out, I expect that they'd get more produced and generic as time wears on to where people who don't actively seek out music just settle for it, but I don't really know, I just know I like this album a lot

Burzum - War

I subject myself to these horrendous vocals because I really like the music. Haven't listened to older Burzum in a while, let alone any other black metal.

47 minutes of some of my favourite Captain Beefheart tunes. Nothin' like puffin' on a fat bag of the stinkiest fuckin' dank, while listening to the man himself ramble his beautiful demented poetry.

Tetragrammaton by The Monolith Deathcult

Pretty cool so far. I'm on "Human Wave Attack" right now and it's awesome. I'm already liking it better than "Trivumvirate" (or however you spell that) with the flat guitar tone fixed and the bits of sloppyness ironed out.

Perisynti - Hiilenmusta Lammas

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiffs! Really hard rocking mid-paced glorious Finnish black metal. The really croaky/barky vocals work well for the punkier bits but I kind of wish they had higher, shriekier vocals for the more epic bits.

I love the entire Damage Done album, but this one has to be my favourite. Great stuff.

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow always sounded like a satire name to me. Like The Black Satans. :P

OnT: NP is True Kings Of Norway. One of my favorite splits.

Anathema - A Fine Day to Exit

I found the small amount (and length) of the reviews disturbing so I thought I should do something about it.

The album is FANTASTIC from start to finish!

Hounds Ditch from (2007) Orange Goblin - Healing Through Fire.
Enjoying this album more than I used to.

Eh? I don't remember there being much similarity. Guess I'll have to take another look, since I don't spin Sabaton very much.

Savage Circus - Of Doom and Death

Silly bitches, this album's pretty sweet if you ask me.

I'm currently in an Abruptum kick. Damm, those latin titles seems a bit hard to read. Does someone the meaning of "Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectére Me" what I read is '(The) Darkness I summon embraces me'.

Or, maybe, "The Summon of Darkness Embraces Me"? Dont really know.

Hufsa from (2005) Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies.
Fuck! STILL my favourite Arcturus album!

Angkor Vat - A Pulse Beyond Nothing

Raw, but very atmospheric black metal. The fuzzed out and repetitive nature of this recording makes it rather hypnotic, good stuff.

Cock rock, obviously. Amazing, cheesy glam with ridiculous guitar wankery. Just about the most 80s thing ever.

The Nightspectral Voyage by Obsidian Gate

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is the best symphonic black metal album I've ever heard.

The Momentum by Torchbearer

some massive sounding, epic melodic black/death metal. It is pretty sick and has Christian Alvestam on backing vocals and, if I remember correctly, guitar.

Gamma Ray - Guardians of Mankind

The guardians of mankind are losing their faith
And Kai Hansen shifts up to sing far above his range
If guardians of mankind don't shelter our souls
Kai's poor abused voice will soon lose control

The gear change would have worked better with Ralf Scheepers.

"The Song of Returning Light" -
Absinthe Minds

I'm not exactly sure how to describe this album, I think that's what the point was... It's some kind of weirdo, incredibly lo-fi, psychedelic, droney Folk stuff. Yeah... Something like that.

Black Sabbath - Cornucopia

Took me very long to finally check out Vol. 4 - well, it fits right in with the other five classic Sabbath albums quality and sound wise, and that's all I'm asking for.
Having been a System Of A Down fan in my teenage years, I never even realized that Snowblind is a Black Sabbath cover until now. :oh shit:

Samael - Above

Want to refresh it, I remember it as an album with pretty great potential wasted by being heavily monotonous.

(1972) Black Sabbath - Vol.4 is a nice clasic Black Sabbath album, yes.
What?!? I only new about the Black Sabbath version! I FUCKING hate System of a Down.

Master Of Disguise from (1997) Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale.
I should try to enjoy more the other albums by Arcturus (I only REALLY like (1991, 1994, 1996) Arcturus - Aspera Hiems Symphonia + Constellation + My Angel (2002 Remaster) and (2005) Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies).

Catching up with some stuff from this year...

NP: Impious Baptism - Wrath of the Apex Predator

After the truly stunning EP last year, I had high hopes for this one. It doesn't disappoint.

Queued:

Dream Death - Somnium Excessum (first listen)

Haven't listened to Journey into Mystery as much as I would have liked to, so I really don't know what to expect, but they have a solid reputation and are popular among people whose opinion I trust so I'm looking forward to it.

Immolation - Kingdom of Conspiracy (first listen)

I enjoyed Majesty and Decay a lot more than many, it seems, and the teaser tracks I heard were very enjoyable, so I think I'm going to like this one.
