Iron Maiden - Heaven Can Wait

I haven't been listening to Maiden very much recently, but Somewhere in Time is just a brilliant album.

No problem! And I agree, Armoured Angel does indeed rule.

That story about Marduk getting shut down inspired me.

^ A good choice for sure.

Candlemass - Incarnation Of Evil

Leif Edling hates this album but it's my favorite of theirs. Just nonstop hooks and inimitable style and character. Every song is brimming with unforgettable melodies.

The Cult - King Contrary Man

I don't know how The Cult's "Electric" is perceived in this board but I feel that overall it's under-appreciated. The British band's foray into hard rock territory was fulfilled here. This album can compete with any GNR or Motley Crue album in terms of quality and simple hard rockin' fun.

Electric and The Cult absolutely rule. One of my favorite old school hard rock bands.

That is one of many overlooked yet fantastic songs by Maiden along with "Another Life," "22 Acacia Avenue," "The Duellists" and "Sea of Madness" to name just a few.

Scorpions - "He's a Woman, She's a Man"

Even if it's entirely inadvertent or coincidental, this song offers a little taste of what would become thrash a few years later. :metal:

Is Heaven Can Wait really overlooked? I always saw it as a highlight of the album. Maybe that isn't actually the general consensus though.

I'd make another np, but it's still just Waterfall Cove. Absolutely gorgeous. This is now my new favorite of his new stuff.

I suppose that's debatable, but I don't recall ever seeing it hailed in any manner close to the way(s) that "Hallowed Be Thy Name," "Run to the Hills," "The Trooper," "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," "Wasted Years," "Infinite Dreams" and so forth is/are. Then again, it's also entirely possible that I missed the damn song for however many years since I listened to Somewhere in Time from beginning to end for the first time in about a decade just last month, and as I encountered "Heaven Can Wait," I thought "HOLY FUCKING SHIT, WHERE WAS THIS SONG ALL MY LIFE?!?!" If the latter is more accurate, maybe I'm exaggerating how "overlooked" the song actually is.

Scorpions - "Born to Touch Your Feelings"

I'm not crying softly because I missed them and Overkill and Glutton For Punishment (killer local MN death metal) last night, what are you talking about?

One of the most underrated releases in their discography. Better than some of the albums that came after it for sure.

Heaven Can Wait is like Mandatory Suicide. It's a good tune, but for whatever dumb fucking reason they end up being the live representatives for their respective albums when there are at least 4 or 5 better choices. With regards to the statement in bold, the title track was would gave me that feeling right when I first heard it.

As for the Scorpions, absolutely not. That song is so gay I like to refer to it as "Born To Touch Your Penis." Though I will say the second half would have made great ending music for "Grave of the Fireflies."

The vocals on this are so much like Leprous that it actually caught me off guard when I first heard it. Great song, either way.

A fresh discovery - this some nice old school death/thrash. Riffs for days.

Bathory - The Return...

Put this on after playing Blood Fire Death. I've listened this the least of the first three, but it works. Love the guitar sound. Something about this brings a washing machine to mind.

Black Sabbath - When Death Calls

Blimey, I forgot how amazing the atmosphere was on this song. Really should give the entire album a listen sometime soon. Shame Nicholls died recently, only just realised he was great.

"TELL ME. TELL ME."

Battle Beast - Straight to the Heart

This is really 80s rock sounding - not nearly as intense as their old stuff. Also pretty Sabatonish which isn't a good thing - but they're better than Sabaton these days anyway.

edit: The title track is actually really fun. Catchy, hard hitting metal. Bit shallow but eh.

I've been listening to the new Immolation album constantly. This thing really rips. Basically everything I always hoped the latter days of their career would be. Sort of feels like a "best of" album in the sense that there's a little bit taken from every era, technique and composition-wise, on display here.

That era of Sabbath is so good and so underrated. Awesome stuff. That track in particular is one of my faves on that album.

Criminally underrated Pagan BM album, the others they've released might not be as good, but this one truly deserves a listen.

Car Bomb - Meta

Easily their best album. Easily. This is the album they have wanted to make since they started, and they finally cracked it. So much groove, and they use djent to enhance their songs in the best possible ways. And with half the album containing the best this particular genre has to offer, it's no wonder Meta will be grooving along nicely for years.

I hated Portal when I first heard them many years ago. I just didn't become captured by their music or the atmosphere they were trying to create. Also, on a smaller scale, I always think the best metal isn't Australian, haha. However, after a while, I ended up clicking with it and now they're really cool. Still haven't seen them live, sadly.

I mean Austrailia have what, Portal, Ne Obliviscaris and Destroyer 666, and A LOT of other stuff I'm forgetting/don't know about. Also it was a bunch of Aussies that wrote Transcendence into the Peripheral. All great bands/albums.

Rest assured it took me a while to get them too, and seeing them live sounds like a monstrous experience.

This is ferocious and fantastic. They never quite got back to the level paved from this and Murderworks, but they're a great band nonetheless.

I think Abuse to Suffer was super great and probably the closest they've ever gotten to replicating Exit (which is untouchable and possibly my favorite grind album of all time). And yes, Metal sucks eggs. They're one of those bands you knew was going to suck right away, they didn't even try to trick you.

Light Bringer - Scenes of Infinity
This entire album has the most insane bass in the history of weeb metal and Venus is the catchiest song ever written.
