Tegan And Sara - Closer

Now, I know a lot of you are probably not big fans of Tegan And Sara, and would probably be even less of a fan if you heard this album (Heartthrob) for the first time. But fuck, is it ever a grower. I only ever really enjoyed two T&S albums before this came out, those being This Business Of Art and So Jealous, and when I first listened to this album, I honestly hated it. Really. I really, really hated it. But after a few more listens here and there, it really grew on me, to a significant amount. It's now my most listened to of all their albums. God, it's so good. These two ladies have a gift.

Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings

It has been about 8 years since I listened to this, and now I remember why. The riffs are extremely dull and the songwriting is bland as hell. The only reason to listen to this is Matt Barlow's voice.

Iced Earth for most of their career has been more-or-less carried by their vocals. They need these singers who can tackle a variety of moods and styles and be a dynamic force in the music, because the riffs are infamously the exact opposite. Their live shows are boss regardless, though.

Almah - Zombies Dictator

What a strange song this is, verses with "modern metal" riffing and Edu Falaschi doing harsh vocals (!!), a chorus that dives right back into Angra-style melody, and a cool solo. I can't deny I find the chorus catchy.

It's strange someone with Barlow's talent didn't seek a musically better band.

Theatre of Tragedy - And When He Falleth

One of the quintessential gothic metal songs for me. Plus the original album version just screams mid-90s in the production department.

Some people just have bad taste.

Dark Funeral - In My Dreams. My fav DF tracks are the slow to mid paced ones. The riffs usually are a bit better crafted than the uberfast stuff.

Draconian - Death, Come Near Me

Another gothic anthem. Just a big, depressing, 15 minute love letter to suicide.

Benediction - Undirected Aggression

Despite the somewhat lackluster vocals, this is really quite vicious and enjoyable.

Awesome, awesome band. Goofy, but then again, Manowar is amazing and cheesy. Like pizza.

Johnny Cash- Hurt

Why? Because he was the most metal man to not play metal, that's why motherfucker!

Sacriphyx - Food for the Front

The entire album that this track belongs to is a gigantic grower. Found myself pretty indifferent to the work as a whole during the first couple of listens, but it finally clicked hard and now I can't stop playing it. Great stuff.

All of that Iced Earth bashing makes me sad :( But well, at least you guys aren't shitting on Barlow. Guy deserves more respect.

Alice in Chains - Heaven Beside You, off Alice in Chains

You know, I feel pretty stupid for noticing it just now, but this song's chorus sounds like something straight out of a Beatles record.

Correction; the most metal man to never play metal is Tom goddamn Waits. Case closed.

PS: Cash is awesome though.

Savages - Silence Yourself

Like an all-female, 21st century version of Joy Division.

Megadeth - Super Collider

So this leaked. Even as an ardent defender of Thirteen and someone who didn't really think the title track was all that bad (from a certain point of view)...this ain't too great. Maybe it's a grower, but right now I'd rank it around TWNAH or maybe even Risk.

Funebrarum - Beyond Recognition

NP: Funebrarum - Cursed Eternity :np:

Crushing death metal. Quality old school riffs. The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams is a juggernaut of an album.

Absolutely immense album. Really love the track Grave Reaper.

Np: Protector - A Shedding Of Skin.

This album never gets old. Still better than most of the Thrash/Death metal out there

Megadeth - Super Collider

Well it has leaked. Listening to it now. I still maintain that "Kingmaker" is a good rockin' opener but apart from that song this is not sounding too good. The only thing that may be worth attention so far is "Built For War" but even that is nothing special. What is funny is that I rather like Mustaine's vocals on this album. Do not know why but he sounds better than usually.

Arghoslent - Manacled Freightage. I swear, I'm currently at work and I'm headbanging and growling this shit, also doing the drums' footwork while I'm sit working on some finantial reports.

I can't stop myself from doing so when an Arghoslent song plays, being at work, in the bus, walking by the streets... you name it.

Flagellant - Into the Maws of Death

I'm reviewing this brilliant album. It'll get a 90% or so. Anyone who thinks black metal is dead and can only be saved by bands like Altars of Plagues, Krallice etc. should just admit that they don't like black metal, this is where modern black metal is at.

Conception - A Million Gods

That solo around the 0:37 minute mark is one of my favourites of it all. The first couple of slower notes sound so dreamy and before you know it everything speeds up and you get cought up in this stormy shredfest.

Alice in Chains - All Secrets Known

Murky, slow-burning opener...pretty effective. Very seedy and dark, but with oddly uplifting lyrics.

Glenn Hughes - Soul Mover, off the album of the same name

Glenn's funk roots are in full force here. It's not marveloues stuff, but it's nice and groovy. Should be nice driving music.

Ash Borer - Cold of Ages

I don't get why some people don't like this album as much as the debut. My only criticism is the intros which can be too long, other than that its as good as the self titled.
And the production is much better

Revisiting this band's discography to see if it grows on me. Only gave it a quick once-over before, but I did their debut again and like it a lot.

Christopher Lee - Charles the Great

Vocals are pretty decent, especially for a guy in his 90's. However, I can perfectly reproduce the bass drum sound with a sturdy clap on the tummy.

Man, I do love Ghoul. Such a monstrous sound; relentless yet far from overbearing. Quite the contrary in fact. Maniaxe is an absolute gem of an album.

Enjoyable old school styled death metal that doesn't actually sound like a clone of any band I can think of . Can't wait for a full length from these guys.

Really digging the new album, it's got some really great tunes on it. I don't know why I didn't expect an album of this quality from Deep Purple of all people!
