Don't think so, the closest documentary have come to the relation between Scandinavian culture and metal is Sam Dunn's mini documentary on black metal, which I think can be found on youtube

One of the Special Features on the METAL: A HEADBANGER'S JOURNEY has a small documentary on Black Metal, and there is a brief allusion to Viking/Pagan Influences. Beyond that, I haven't found Jack Sh!T for Viking Metal Docs.

It's definatly a shame there isn't a viking metal documentary. Someone needs to make one.

Ain't that the truth? All my friends make fun of me because I like metal that is about Viking culture and mythology. I wish there was a documentary i could show them to help them understand that it isn't some weird and random metal sub genre

Take a stand and make your own instead of whining for someone else to do it.

Believe it or not, Bill Zebub of The Grimoire Of Exalted Deeds mag is currently working on a Pagan Metal documentary DVD.

What would a documentary convey that you could not convey in person, orally and (possibly) with relevant audio and visual aids? A documentary is essentially a film or programme that aims to present a subject matter in a factual and informative manner. People do that by themselves all the time, when there isn't a documentary, book, or website handy (and sometimes even when these resources are available).

I accept that the average "off-the-top-of-your-head" explanation is bound to be less thorough and organised when compared to the content of a good documentary. However, if this is important to you, and you know your stuff, then I don't see why the lack of a documentary should hold you back from helping your friends to understand that Viking metal "isn't some weird and random metal sub genre".

Don't most movies like that happen when a writer makes a proposal to a movie company or something? Then they'd fund it probably.

That will be interesting for sure. Personally im mostly interested to see if Bill can keep serious for more than two minutes. Seems unlikely to me. ;)

Me too. You can't do a proper documentary on pagan metal and ignore all the great Slavic and Baltic bands.
