I should have posted these a long time ago. My only vest. A lot of studwork to be done still.

Great one leatherandtrash! Only have one too, a padded black wooded jacket with a Marduk Sweden Legion round patch on the left arm, near the shoulder. Like to keep it simple (and, as I said it's the only one and I take to work every day).

Im looking for more sites that offer decent patches for customers in the U.S. I only know Abyss and Negative Existence. Any other sites that offers a wide range of band patches that are high quality and reasonable?

You could try these eBay sellers. They're from overseas, but they ship to the US, and aren't that expensive. Pretty great selection, too.

*I was in high school *shrug*. I think I spraypainted something on a pair of jeans... I also had an ill-fitting grey t-shirt with "GWAR" and a goofy monster face sprayed on it in blue paint... IDK where that shirt is or i'd post it.

As for dye, just don't use that Rit or Tulip bullshit. It's worth spending a little money on quality fabric dyes... Just follow the directions on the box carefully or you could risk the dye washing right out, which is fucking annoying, especially if you spent the extra money on good dye.

Luckily enough this didn't have to happen. I've been combing thrift stores for a while since black denim jackets are fairly rare, I'd purchased one a while back but it was way to wide to make a vest from (only 8$ though so oh well) Today I wound up picking a decent fitting width wise one for 4$, but too short. So I chopped the bottom off the too big one, did some adjustments and sewed it on to the bottom of the new one. Boom, perfect fitting vest.

Regarding black denim being impossibly hard to find - just pick up some black fabric dye, the kind you use in the washing machine.
Just make sure you're thorough about it, or you'll end up with a grey or dark purple denim.

Dying a vest totally black is really hard, I've tried quite a few times. I'm pretty happy with my mismatched vest now though, time for patches!

Just got myself a vest and some patches from http://warheadshop.webs.com/, including a sweet Under the Sign of the Black Mark sublimation back patch. Sadly the back patch was made from a low resolution source material so it doesn't look very sharp. Haven't sewed the patches on yet though.

But now to a practical question: what's the best (easiest and most durable) way to sew them on? Which pattern/thread type should I use? And when it comes to the sublimation back patch, should I just sew the borders or should I do something special to make sure it sits neatly to the denim?

Regarding the small ones I use black sewing line, 2 to 5 millimeter per sew, go along the inner part of the outer border to make it seamless. I do that by hand, quite easy. Should last a lifetime.

Edit: btw, that Bathory small patch on the left is very nice, would be great on the shoulder or chest of my black jacket, where did you got it?

Not my vest, but if you're talking about the shield shaped one, I've seen that one and a bunch of similar designs on ebay.

Thanks. All patches are from http://warheadshop.webs.com/ , which is down for inventory right now though. $4/each (except the backpatch that was $12).

I E-Mailed them to ask a question about shipping to the U.S., and I never heard back.

Not a vest, but a shirt. I tried to sew the patches myself, but eventually had to give up and a friend of mine sewed them. But unfortunately she didn't know Voivod logo, so the patch is upside down, hahah!

That's a tight Neanderthal patch, but honestly, a bunch of patches on a flannel looks sorta tacky.

If done right, like say a back patch and a couple on the front it's sweet! But all randomly I agree. I also don't understand all these peoples inabilities to sew, it's a pretty simple thing to do.

It wouldn't look as bad if they were colourful patches, but the way they are is just too upsetting to the eye. Invest in some thick black fabric.

Hm, the backpatch I'm planning on sewing on is a sublimation back patch with creases in it (it was sent folded twice). Should I just sew it on and hope that the creases will disappear with time, or should I do something first in order to get rid of the creases?

Sewing it on very tight and putting it through the wash should do the job.

What I did with mine is turn it upside down, and iron it on high from the back. It shouldn't mess with the design so long as you don't directly touch the ink with the iron. And well-ah, no more creases.

Holy shit, you there are some absolutely mind-blowing vests in this thread.

I'm about the start 2 vests side by side in the next few weeks. A black leather one (based around black, doom/death and death metal) and a denim one (heavy, thrash, old-school death). I've been looking at Patch Noir (http://stores.ebay.ca/Patch-Noir), an eBay store, and I was wondering if any of you had any experience with this seller. How's the patches' quality? The shipping?

Also, if there are any tips on sewing patches onto leather, I'm all ears.

^Patch Noir is a very reputable seller. Quality patches, and pretty great deals. Just be sure to check the sizes before buying. I've purchased most of my patches from this guy.

Here's my unfinished denim vest. Just need to get some patches for the backside and attach the patches on the front side. Probably will be keeping it black&white only, and I should get more metal patches, too.
