All of them seem to similar, I can recognize if a death metal band is japanese by listening to its vocals. Can anyone notice this as well?

It depends on how many bands from there you are listening to. If it's just a few then it's probably your imagination. Time to take the Pepsi challenge.

They do have a somewhat croaking quality to them now that you mention it.

It's not just death metal. A lot of japanese black metal has similar vocal styles as well.

not sure if it's related to death/black metal specifically. A lot of japanese bands in general have a different vocal style, most likely due to the accent.

Likewise I've heard spanish/italian bands whose lyrics are in their mother language that tend to have a bit of an accent.

 That's my favorite part of Avulsed: The really obvious, thick Spanish accent! Hilarious!

The accent is only even slightly noticeable in the high vocals, the gutturals are fairly standard death metal fare. I seriously doubt anyone would ever say Japan in their first 5 guesses of where these guys were from if they were taking a "Pepsi challenge".

Infected Malignity. They do not sound like they're from Japan. I don't know exactly what's wrong with sounding like you're from Japan when you are but there it is.

The first japanese death metal band I listened to was Disconformity. Now every other japanese death metal band seems to have similar vocals. E.G After listening to Disconformity, I listened to Glossectomy then Jenovavirus and the vocals all sounded similar

Probably just the accent. Do you listen to a lot of Japanese music, or do you watch lots of anime, or do you hang out/talk with/know a lot of Japanese people. If you hear a certain accent or dialect enough you can recognize it very easily. Especially if that group of people does not have English for a first language, because they will be more used to the phonetics of their primary language.

And to the right ear, that accent is very hard to hide, even when they are screaming and growling.

Also, is the vocalist, maybe, singing in Japanese. That too can be quite a big tell. And don't take it that I mean to call your intelligence into question. I'm just saying, maybe?
