Jim, have you talked with any of the other members of Morbid Saint about a reunion of any sort, ever since you guys broke up? There's been a huge old school thrash revival that's been happening in the past several years. Would your heart still be in Morbid Saint to produce similar music? Or is it simply still a great memory of a great time?

I live real close to Jay and Gary but Pat and Lee have moved out of state.
I have actually talked with Jay about Morbid doing something in the future, I can’t say if that will happen but you never know.
I think if we did get together it would be to do some sort of tour at first and then see about new music.
I don’t know if there is enough interest around the world in us getting back together for a tour or not. I know some people would enjoy it but how many I’m not sure.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Jim

I'm listening to Assassin for the first time, and I can't believe I've been missing this. This song has definitive thrash riffage, and it rules!

Hey Jim, nice to see a thrash legend on the boards! "Scars" is a crazy ass song, Spectrum of Death is definitely one of the best thrash records ever made.

Just to throw a question out that hasn't been aked, where do you stand on the rising of modern thrash metal?

Do you ever listen to any post-90's metal? Are you a fan of any death and black metal bands- even from the 80's?

Hello! I brought "Spectrum of Death" to the pub and got 'Damien' played, even though it was like 4am people were still impressed. Thanks for your music Jim.

Jim is getting more than he bargained for :)

I'm sure Power Play will see a spike in the re-issue after this.

I have just glanced over the posts in this thread and it is nice to see that some musicians are willing to 'join the club' here and to share their experiences; a welcome contrast to the overtrue black metal types that pop up now here and then.

 :metal:

note: I still have to listen to your music... thrash is not something I am deeply fascinated by.

Welcome Jim :)

Morbid Saint was one of those bands that couldn't do wrong. Both albums kicked your ass and taught you what thrash was about... such great times!

Hope you are doing well and enjoy your stay.

Assassin was the song that got me into the darker side of thrash. Thank you so much for your contributions to the scene!

I'd also like to know what your take on modern thrash metal is.

Yes I am, I did not expect this at all.
I knew there were fans out there that still listened to Morbid but I had idea how many of you there really are, you are greatly appreciated and I’m the one that is honored.

Your comments are such an eye opener for me on how special the music we made such a long time ago is to a select group of people.
When we wrote these songs all we were doing was playing the only kind of music we knew how to, it has never bothered us that we did not break out like other bands did.
It means so very much to all of us that you guys are still here supporting the music we just thought was the best we could do at a time when all the bands from other areas of the world were doing so much better than us.
Those bands definitely deserve the respect that they received but I will tell you this, after all this time you guys are making it all well worth the time we spend in a little band from Sheboygan Wisconsin.
I will thank you guys again and I will keep on thanking you for as long as I post on this board, you ARE the reason our music is still alive!!!!!!!!!
OK, enough with that.
As far as new thrash goes, I listen to all types of music and all types of metal.
I think that the new age of thrash has its place in time just as the thrash that we made had its place in that time. I don’t feel that one is better than the other. We had different influences than the bands of today so the progression will tend to be different.
I run into kids that think that Metallica’s Black album was their first good album, in my opinion that was the start of their downfall.
I am not saying that Metallica sold out or anything, I just think that Kill em All still blows away anything else they have ever done since.
To answer your question, I like most modern day thrash because it all has something to offer and these bands are still kickin ass.

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Jim

Jim,

I think you'd like to see this:

http://www.last.fm/music/Morbid+Saint

Considering 90 percent of the plays are from one album, that's pretty amazing.

Yeah, but they only released one album and a hard-to-find LP.

Right, that's why I said 90 percent of the plays are from one album. Because they only released one album and the unreleased album, which is hard to find.

Hails, Jim!!! \m/ Another Saint fan here.

Can we all vote to get Jim's tag boosted up from "Mallcore Kid" to something more worthy like "Metal God"? I mean seriously.

Quoted for truth. It's a must have thrash release. Good to see it getting a decent reissue too. Thanks for coming on board Jim.

You're going to the Destruction show at the Pearl Room in March, right? I shall have to bring my copy of Spectrum of Death to demonstrate for you what you are missing.

Speaking of which... Jim, do you go to many concerts down in Chicago, or do you just stick around "north of the border?" Because I don't know if you've noticed yet, but the MA forums here seem to have a large number of Illinois people, and frankly, it'd be an honor to meet you in person.

Oh, without a doubt. I got to catch them on their 07 tour when they rolled through Sauget (East St. Louis). I am definitely not missing them.

Just one question: after all these years, do you still own white hightops? and if so, do you wear them?

Let me the 100th person to say how awesome Morbid Saint was and is, and how cool it is to see you on the same level as all of your fans, thanks for the riffs, thanks for the bangovers.

Wow this is really cool. Morbid Saint had their spot in my little 'queue' of bands to check out, and just got a spot right up front.
Once I'm done digesting this Sarcofago, I'm diving into some Morbid Saint.

Nice, I'm another Saint fan. Spectrum of Death comes, Takin up highly on my list of Thrash albums. (only behind Overkill's Horrorscope, Megadeth's Peace Sells, and Metallica's Ride the Lightning).

It's really cool to actually see somebody from a great band like Saint posting on this forum!!

Thanks for the good times I have listening to your material! (Though, I must admit, I youtube it, since the album is hard to come by :/ )

As many before i would also like to bring thanks to you and your band mates for bestowing upon the giant pool of Thrash Metal a gem that shines brighter than the rest, especially to the intense ThrashalmostDeath style offshoot, as Spectrum of Death was. Lock Up Your Children was always my favorite but behind it Assassin, both great songs-hell all great songs.

Thanks again.....and again....and again....and everytime i listen/ed to it, till i die. man i'm gonna go re-listen to it again right now, i just remembered how much i love Morbid Saint.

Right on :headbang:

WOW,

That is amazing.
It’s Christmas Eve day here so I’m going to post a quick reply to a few of the last questions and then I have to get to work.
Thanks again for all the kind words and yes it is really me.
Most of the show’s I go to are in Milwaukee but I think there may be some upcoming show’s in the Chicago area that I might try to make, I will post here if I’m going to any of them.
It would be an honor to meet any of our fans.
Yes I still own white high-tops and wear them almost daily, old habits are hard to break I guess.

Thanks again guys and have a great Christmas, talk to ya soon!!!!!!!

The amount of ass kissing in this thread is insane . Also, Spectrum of Death is more of an MA thrash classic, not necessarily a widely recognized one. This is still the largest metal site on the internet and things like Boris's endorsement or generally really high reviews go a long way to people new to metal, so that's not to say Morbid Saint's seemingly somewhat recent explosion of popularity here won't mean anything in the long run.

Don't take that the wrong way though! I am also a fan of Spectrum of Death, and therefore am honored to see you pop in and thank all of the fans for keeping the music alive! Honestly, nothing feels better than that.

Except that there's not any ass kissing. He was part of a band who made genuinely awesome music. We're not ass kissing because he happens to be in Morbid Saint, not including whether the band was good or not.
