I've just recently gotten into Dream Theater and I've really liked most of what I've heard so far except for their singer. That guy's voice just really gets to me. Dance of Eternity has no vocals, and killer instrumentation, and is therefore killer.

Similar songs? Any band really I guess...

Thanks!

I don't know, it just really annoys me. It's funny too because although I'm not a huge fan, I really enjoy Rhapsody, Blind Guardian etc who both have similar vocal styles. I just cant do Labrie.

Liquid Tension Experiment are a Dream Theater instrumental side project so it should be exactly what you're looking for. Also try the band Planet X if you want utter time signature changing mayhem.

Circus Maximus' Biosfear is for all intents and purposes an inspirational ripoff of The Dance of Eternity.

I second this. In fact, this band is perfect for anti-LaBrie DT fans. It's very feasible to assume that they created this band just to get away from LaBrie.

Haha, I don't blame them. In fact, I thank them. Why have I never heard of LTE? They're pretty awesome.

If you want a good DT instrumental tune, check Ytse Jam from their first album When Dream And Day Unite.

Stream of Consciousness from Train of Thought is also fantastic.

Lots of people don't like LaBrie's voice (or, to be more precise, his delivery and enunciation). However, the quality of his performances vary drastically from album to album. I personally think Scenes from a Memory is his best (and also DT's best overall), but you might want to check out Awake (lots of instrumentals on that one, too) or Images and Words if you haven't yet. Those might float yer boat.

Then there's always When Dream and Day Unite, which has a different singer and a really gay cover.
