I think Destruction's All Hell Breaks Loose is a great album. An excellent return for Schmier. I'm also a pretty big fan of Tempo of the Damned when Exodus reformed, despite the fact Baloff would have made it a ton more interesting.

Even though I don't really rank early Destruction as high as most other old-line thrash classics, I definitely agree that their comeback efforts are head and shoulders above what most of their peers have attempted after falling to the wayside. Actually, Sodom also redeemed themselves pretty well with Code Red and M-16 after putting out several bombs during the 90s.

I think Dimmu Borgir's In Sorte Diaboli makes them a great comeback. As much as we hate them this album is pretty good. It has all the qualifications of a great comeback: it doesn't suck, it is not like their former selves, it is much better than the previous albums they released (because they were shit). I think if you gave yourself time to listen to the album, you'll appreciate it.

Mayhem's "Ordo Ad Chao" was a damn good comeback considering their mediocre previous 2 albums.

your kidding me right? i bought the album and put it on, and it put me to sleep, it was horrible man.

No I'm not kidding, I really thought it was fantastic as soon as I popped the CD into my player. But I do realize that its not something for everyone...its a very awkward album.

Perhaps you should give it a fresh listen a few years later.

Which bands, in your opinion have made great, unexpected comebacks after beeing splitted up for years?

Celtic frost's Monotheist comes into my mind, i mean; it's not another To mega therion, but it's not another shitty mediocre album such as Vanity/Nemesis either. ''Great, dark atmosphere combinated by creepy heaviness'' The way i'd describe that album. Also Celtics Frost most emotional album ever created.

Your opinion?

Metallica- The GH3 fan remixes of Death Magnetic. It was their worst recorded album, and it was changed into their best since the eighties!

Great analysis!

Ever since 2001, Holy Moses has returned to the Thrash scene and put out 3 great albums, and one good EP. They have never been this solid from album to album in their entire career. That's what I call a comeback.

Morgana Lefay had an awesome comeback with Grand Materia, definitely one of the better heavy/power metal albums of the last few years. :headbang:

The "Monotheist"-album by Celtic Frost is probably even better than "To Mega Therion".
Exodus also had several very good albums since their reunion like "Tempo of the Damned".

Archgoat. I love the Whore of Bethlehem album. They're heavier than ever. I love how effective their simple riffs are.
